The CIA made a pretty big ‘Oops’ over Spring Break when they used a Virginia school bus in a training session.

The CIA said March 30 that it left “explosive training material,” on a school bus inside the engine compartment. The organization had borrowed a Loudoun County, Virginia, school bus that was used in a training exercise intended to teach police dogs to detect explosive material.

While it may appear that the dogs obviously failed the exercise, Slate reported excess material had simply slid into an engine compartment when the rest was removed (if that makes you feel any better).

After the training exercise had been concluded, students from Rock Ridge High School, Buffalo Trail Elementary School, and Pinebrook Elementary School, rode the bus on Monday and Tuesday before the substance was found due to a routine maintenance check on Wednesday.

In a statement put out by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department, parents were assured none of the explosive material posed a real threat. “The training materials used in the exercises are incredibly stable and according to the CIA and Loudoun County explosive experts the students on the bus were not in any danger from the training material,” the sheriff’s department said.

Parents were notified Wednesday about the discovery, and local officials met Thursday with the CIA to discuss the blunder.

Let’s hope this doesn’t happen again. And while the CIA sorts out this public relations nightmare, why don’t you sort out your feelings in the comments? And, as always, please SHARE with a concerned parent in your life who will be rightfully infuriated.
