Most of us already have nighttime routines and habits that we will practice before bed. These 7 quick ones however are easy to implement into your routine, and will greatly help you to wake up happier in the morning.

1. Wash your face before bed

Whether you are a man or woman, you should wash your face every night. Even if that simply consists of rinsing your face with water, and applying moisturizer- it will make you feel a lot better, and you will wake up feeling refreshed.

2. Lay your clothes out for the next day

Knowing that you don’t have to rummage through your closet for clothes to wear in the morning will make you sleep a lot more peacefully. The less you need to worry about in the morning, the better you will feel upon opening your eyes.

3. Spend 30 minutes prior to bed free of your phone, tv, or computer

Constantly seeing things- pictures and messages right before we go to bed greatly interrupts our sleep. Do you really want to start having dreams about that picture of your friend in the restaurant they went to that night? I don’t think so.

4. Eat light and drink right at night

It’s best to not eat anything heavy before you go to sleep, because not only does it interfere with your sleep, it usually causes you to have bad dreams. Consuming alcohol won’t give you a restful sleep either, because anyone who has drank at night knows that you may think you’re sleeping well, but you actually wake up more tired.

5. Turn your alarm clock around

Having your alarm clock face you at night will only make you look at the time, and worry about how much sleep you’re going to have. To avoid being anxious or nervous about your sleep, simply turn your alarm clock away from you (if you even have one anymore- most of us just use the alarm clock on our phones).

6. Keep a journal

A great time to write is before bed. Write down three things that you’re proud of for the day and three things that you’d like to change. Pointing out your victories will keep you positive and motivated, and jotting down things you’d like to change will give you awareness of the things you want to work on.

7. Write down things you’re grateful for

This can be done in your journal as well, and it is a super important habit that you should get into because it increases your happiness by a lot! Any coach or motivational speaker is going to tell you that you should always practice being grateful, because it makes you look at the world and at your life with appreciation and optimism.
