Child Shocks Parents When She Comes Home With Pledge Of Allegiance Opt Out Form

A few Florida parents are fuming after their kids came home from school with a Pledge of Allegiance opt out form.

One parent posted a picture of the note on Facebook, after writing in “This is the dumbest thing I have ever read and I am so ashamed of this.” The rest of Facebook seems to agree.

Another wrote, “my niece brought this home from school today…What is happening to our country?!?”

The comments on the photo include:

“I’m thinking I would pull my kids out of that school immediately! Scary thing is, it probably won’t be long before that type of ridiculousness is everywhere.”

“8 years of Obama and a Congress that has done zero to stop him.”

“That’s heartbreaking.”

while some parents are certainly furious about this, it does raise quite a few good questions. While many would call it unpatriotic to do such a thing, is it the right of parents to opt their children out of the pledge?

After all, if we live in a country that supports freedom of speech, that also means we allow for freedom to abstain from certain types of speech. Then again, we probably should be teaching our children to show respect for those who have died for that flag these children pledge (or don’t pledge) each morning.
