Almost every exhausted parent has accidentally fallen asleep while their kids are napping or watching television and woken up to find their little ones getting into trouble, however, one Washington mom learned the hard way why it’s so dangerous.
After realizing their mom had fallen asleep, a five-year-old and three-year-old sibling decided they wanted to go see grandma. However, instead of waiting until mom woke up, they stole her keys, climbed into the driver’s seat of her SUV, put it in drive and started on their journey.
The two toddlers managed to get out of the driveway and to a nearby intersection, but their journey came to an end when they pulled out into the intersection and crashed into another car. “I heard a heck of a crash,” said neighbor Fred Axberg, who was just one of the many neighbors who ran out of their house when they heard the noise.
“It sounded like an explosion went off — something, we really don’t know. So I ran out and I saw it. I knew it was our neighbor’s car, but I did not know she wasn’t in the car. Only the two little ones,” neighbor Annemarie Warren said.
Luckily, the two kids were unharmed and the other driver was left with only a few cuts and bruises. “I held the kids both in their hands and I said, ‘where’s your mom?’ They said, ‘sleeping. I want to go to my grandma’s house.’,” Warren said.
