When a pet parent notices something is wrong with their fur child, it’s often easy to jump to wild conclusions about what’s going on.
Polly Stewart is a dog owner and the founder of the website Pet News Today, so it’s safe to say she knows a thing or two about animals, but when her Husky stopped eating like she normally does, she could have never guessed what the problem was.
The 8-year-old dog began rapidly losing weight and Stewart feared the worst, believing the dog was extremely ill or dying. She was referred to Langford Behaviour Clinic, a part of Bristol University’s veterinary school, where a group of canine psychologists “interviewed” Stewart and Samsara.hey concluded that the dog was not being starved at home, she was anorexic.
What they concluded completely shocked Stewart. The dog was not sick with a what she believed, or being starved at home, she was suffering from anorexia due to severe anxiety.
“If you love your animal you’re open to anything that might help them if they are clearly very poorly and their life is at risk,” Stewart told Wales Online of how she fears her beloved Samsara will stop eating entirely.
“The most important thing is to be able to compartmentalise your feelings, stress, and emotion which is negative and not show that around the dog, which is really tough,” she said. “I feel that she would not be here if it was not for the treatment she had from Langford and the canine psychologists.”
