Arizona Dog Is Found With Massive 3.5 Pound Tumor Hanging From His Neck

When animal rescuer Juju Kuita first laid eyes on a Boxer named Gus, she was shocked by what she saw.

Gus was a healthy dog in good condition who had been living on the streets of Phoenix for only a short while, but hanging from his neck was a massive tumor. The tumor was so massive, in fact, that it weighed a whopping 3.5 pounds, according to the Arizona Humane Society.

The dog, who was found on September 11, was likely thrown out of the house by an owner who didn’t want to deal with the dog’s medical issues.

“We see a lot of abuse in our line of work and we rescue injured pets off the streets every day of the year, but this dog was one of the worst I’ve seen,” Kuita said in a press release. “To think that someone just tossed him out on the streets and refused to get him medical treatment simply broke my heart.”

The tumor was removed shortly after the rescuers found him and despite his older age, the pooch is in good condition now.

“Last year, over 11,000 animals were treated in our trauma center, but never have I seen a tumor that big,” said Dr. Martinez. “Gus has so much love and we wanted to give him a chance at a happy life.”

The animal shelter said they are not aware of how long the dog was carrying the massive tumor around. They do not know whether the tumor was the result of neglect or animal abuse but they are quite certain he’s happy to have it removed.
