10-Month-Old Is Hospitalized After Picking Up Meningitis From Shopping Cart

When new Mom Vivienne Wardrop went shopping with her infant, she expected to come home with dinner and baby food. What she came home with instead, is shocking parents everywhere.

Wardrop says she tries to be as careful as possible with her new baby, but not every precaution can always be taken. For example, she thought about wiping down the baby seat in the shopping cart, but she didn’t because it didn’t feel necessary.

Instead, she just popped the tyke in the seat during the quick shopping trip. After they got home, the 10-month-old began experiencing symptoms that didn’t sit right with Mom.

First came a fever followed by vomiting and diarrhea. Fearful, the Mom took her baby to the hospital where he was quickly admitted into the intensive care unit.

The report from the doctors horrified Mom. Logan had picked up rotavirus, adenovirus, salmonella poisoning, and meningitis…all from sitting in a shopping cart!

What followed was eight days in the intensive care unit, accompanied with more than this Mom wanted to handle. Doctors had to put a central line into Logan’s veins because they kept collapsing from dehydration.

Even after he left ICU, Logan had two weeks of recovery at home ahead of him.

Now, Mom is speaking out about the dangers of unclean shopping carts. Grocery store carriages are dangerous to a weak immune system not only because of all the unclean hands passing over but also because of food products making their rounds too.

Parents, before you put your child in a cart, make sure you always wipe it down with a disinfectant and even put down a shopping cart cover.

And the same goes for pets too!
