Edie Simms was arrested and placed in the back of a police cruiser on Friday.
The kicker is that she did it all to fulfill one of her life-long bucket list wishes of being arrested. St. Louis officers were happy to oblige with Simm’s wish, and they escorted her St. Louis’ Five Star Senior Senior. According to KPLR News, St. Louis’ Police Sgt. John McLaughlin said he gets more out of things like this than the seniors do. When asked if she enjoyed her ride in the back of the cruiser, Simms responded, “Oh yes, handcuffs and all.”
Simms has been donating handmade gifts like walker bags, pillows, scarves, and eyeglass cases to the senior center’s members for a while now, and since one of them knows a local police officer, they were happy to arrange Simms’ arrest.
The center’s residential director, Michael Howard, told The Huffington Post, that when he told Simms about this opportunity, she said, “Do you think they’d put handcuffs on me?”
Once in the back of the police cruiser, “Edie held her hands up to show that she had the handcuffs on! She’s just such a neat lady,” Howard recalled.
Simms’ one piece of advice to people is to: “Keep going, don’t ever stop whatever it is you’re doing and spend some time doing community service because sometimes the person you reach out and touch, is the only person that they will talk to in a day.”
