Florida Hospital Brings Wedding To Mom When She Can’t Attend Her Son’s Wedding

Newlyweds Danielle Todd and Michael Morris had been planning their wedding for more than a year, expecting to tie the knot on a Carnival Cruise Ship, when life took an unexpected turn.

In August of this year, Morris’ mother became ill and had to be hospitalized. She was put on a list of recipients for liver donations and spent a long time confined to the hospital ward. As the big day drew near, it appeared Millie Morris was not going to make the departure. Even if she had a healthy, functioning liver in time, she still wouldn’t have a strong enough immune system to withhold the stress and potential for infection.

That’s why last week Todd and Morris sat down and made the difficult decision to move up the wedding and get married where his mother could see them tie the knot: in the hospital.

Providing the hospital staff gave the green light, this couple planned on taking care of the basics and ensuring the most important people would be in attendance. What they weren’t expecting was for the hospital to take care of absolutely every last detail.

“The person I spoke to just promised me that it was going to be a magical day,” Todd said. “She asked if they could just handle it all, so I said OK.”

And handle it, they did. The hospital not only took care of hair and makeup for Millie, they also arranged it for the bride and her 7-year-old daughter. They brought in a musician (Chris from the music therapy department) and arranged for the chaplain to deliver a touching ceremony.

In the end, it was a beautifully touching ceremony that showed us what weddings are really about. They aren’t about the glitz and glam that comes with a luxury cruise liner, but the family and love that makes a wedding so special.
