One cat owned by a family in Florida had a very lucky break after being attacked by two wild coyotes.

The cat, named Kitty, was in the backyard garden when she was attacked by the animals right in front of one of her owner’s face. Sherrie Lewis from Seminole, tells My Fox Tampa Bay, “As I was walking to the door, I could see the coyotes over here. It happened in an instant. One had her by the neck and the other had her by the tail.”

Lewis explains that her rescue pit bull named Jack ran as fast as he could to defend Kitty, and Jack attacked the wild coyotes, who eventually let go of the terrified cat. Kitty was then taken to the vet and was treated for brain swelling and a broken tooth. While she wasn’t able to walk immediately after the incident, Lewis describes, “she is getting there.”

Throughout the entire ordeal, Lewis says that Jack has been there for Kitty and is comforting her during her healing process. “He probably feels like he’s the caretaker. He checks on her every day and sniffs her, seeing what kind of shape she is in,” she says.

She also adds that Jack was able to identify a predator, “He likes other dogs he wouldn’t have done that if there were dogs out there. It was like he knew the difference,” she said. To this day, Jack continues to watch out for the coyotes return, but Lewis has set up traps behind the mangroves where she believes the coyotes must have came from.
