When a mom in East China’s Zhejiang Province went into labor, surgeons scarred her daughter for life.
The baby’s uncle, Xiao Zhou, said he and the rest of the family were overjoyed when his younger sister finally gave birth until they noticed a deep cut on the newborn’s face.
The little girl was delivered healthily by a c-section at the Yifu Fuyuan Hospital in Yiwu City, and Xiao Zhou said no one noticed the injury until later that day when the baby was cleaned off. “I didn’t pay attention to it at first because I thought it was made by somebody’s nail, but upon closer inspection, it was clear that it was a knife wound,” Xiao told the Mirror.
The delivery team told the family that the flesh and skin on his sister’s stomach were “too thin,” causing them to accidentally slice too deep and cut the newborn’s face. Now, the child’s mom says she worries about the potential psychological effects her daughter may suffer because of having such a long facial scar.
When Xiao tried to get the hospital to own up to what they did, he says they’ve avoided openly discussing the topic, just in case it has any negative legal implications for them. “They never openly and proactively told was their fault and they’re not taking responsibility,” he said.
The doctor who performed the c-section, named Zhang also refused to comment on the cut, saying that any comments will have to come through the hospital. Officials at Yifu Fuyuan Hospital have handed the case over to medical investigators.
Can you believe a hospital did such a terrible thing to this newborn?
