2015 will forever be remembered as the year of the bun.
First, we had the messy bun. Then we had the man bun. Now, we’re seeing the “hun bun.” I first came across this style on a gloomy Tuesday afternoon as I sat in a coffee shop writing my usual pieces about style, celebrities, and social trends. I saw an interesting piece about a new hair trend, currently being dubbed the “hun bun,” that combines the half-up look from childhood with a messy bun.
“Crap,” I said after reading an article about it. I instinctively reached up and touched the top of my head where I felt a knot of hair tied above he rest of my limp locks in a perfect hun bun. “I really thought I invented this one,” I said.
Yup, I’ve been wearing my hair in a hun for the past month, and this whole time I thought I started it. Apparently, as the internet often proves, I did not invent this. (I hate to sound like a hipster here, but seriously, I’ve been wearing my hair like this since before it was cool.)

The hun bun is the new mullet.
Much to my chagrin, the style has been catching on for over a year now and it’s a pretty cool look. It combines all the laid-back ease of a bun, with all the quirkiness of a mullet. Instead of having business in the front and party in the back, the hun is composed of messiness in the front and different messiness in the back. It’s easy, fun, and best of all, it’s hard to screw up.
