We all have some skeletons hidden in the closet of our search history.
Maybe you googled chlamydia because that pimple down there looks a little too funky to be an ingrown hair. Perhaps you looked up the lyrics to “Mambo No. 5,” on the Google machine, or maybe you posed the question, “will the South rise again?”
It’s okay, we all have a shameful section of our search history, but nobody sees that info, right? Well, actually, that data is being mined whether you know it or not. Grant it, your boss doesn’t know that you’re into furries (look that one up in incognito mode), but Google does.
So what did the internet do with all this info?
The real estate website Estately compiled a (highly subjective) list of embarrassing things people search for and found the number one shameful search in each state. They don’t know the exact name and face associated with each search, but they know the regional patterns.
The geographical trends give us an interesting insight into the minds of people around the country. What social and health issues are we coping with and how do our entertainment preferences differ from coast to coast. The data gives us a unique perspective into the inner psyche of our neighbors.
