Have you heard thirty is the new twenty?

With the way life expectancy is increasing, eighty will soon be the new twenty. Which means, you’ll be allowed to be an “immature kid” well into middle age.

However, until that day comes, there are a few things that aren’t acceptable past a certain age. If you are encroaching upon this period of life (or if you’re well past it), here are a few things you should not be doing by the time you’re in your third decade:

  1. Using your weekends to party all night and recover all day: A night of partying like a college kid is fun, but is it worth giving up your Saturday? If you have a job that takes up your whole week, use your weekends to do the things you couldn’t do because you were working. Your entire paycheck should not be going toward bottle service.
  2.  Failing to have a savings account or nest egg in case of emergency: You never know when disaster might strike. Once you’ve had a stable job for a number of years, you should have a substantial amount of money set aside for a rainy day. Even better if you have enough to accomplish the financial goals you’ve been saving up for, like owning your own house.
  3. Texting and driving: You shouldn’t do this at any age but you really shouldn’t still be doing this when you’re thirty. One downward glance it all it takes to cost yourself thousands of dollars in damages. Not to mention, it could also cost you your life or somebody else’s.
  4. Eating poorly AND not working out: If you want the most out of life, you should find a health and workout routine that suits you. With age, humans have a harder time keeping the pounds off. But poor eating and weight also affect your mood and lifestyle in general. Learn to cook healthy-ish meals and take up an athletic activity that you can maintain a few times a week.

  5. Ordering out more often than you cook: Think about all the money you could be saving by resisting the urge to order food from your local Thai place multiple nights a week. You could put it all towards a week at the Jersey Shore (or a day in the Bahamas). Learn a few basic meals and make sure ordering out is a treat.
  6. Writing cringe-worthy Facebook posts: It’s bad when we see our high-school cousin doing this and worse when college-aged people do it. If you’re still doing it at age thirty, you need to reassess your view of social media and why it exists. If you have a problem with somebody, I strongly suggest you talk to them in person.
  7. Comparing yourself to others: Social media has made us more aware of other people’s success than ever before. When you see somebody on vacation on your Facebook feed, it creates a new way to “keep up with the Jones’s” that never existed before. Remember that nobody puts their true self on social media and you shouldn’t be comparing your insides to their outsides.
  8. Not paying attention to the news or current events: You don’t have to be glued to the news every night, but by the time you’re a “real, mature adult,” you should probably have a sense of what’s going on in the world. If your friends or co-workers start talking about the humanitarian crisis going on in the Middle East, you should at least have an idea of what they’re talking about.
  9. Cleaning your bathroom more than once every 3 months: Keeping your living space fairly clean shows that you love and respect yourself enough to allow yourself to live in a clean, habitable environment. You don’t have to be the Merry Maids, but try to keep good habits.
  10. Getting in fights at the bar: If you go out for a beer that inevitably turns into ten, don’t fight with another drunk person. That’s not even acceptable in college, yet people do it for some reason. It makes you look immature and too aggressive.
  11. Thinking you have it all figured out: You’ll never have it all figured out. Don’t get arrogant and think you do.
