Dog Is Reunited With Daughter 7 Years After Being Torn Apart

The bond between a mother and her babies is one of the strongest between living creatures, no matter what species.

So when a pregnant dog named Nora gave birth shortly after being rescued from a backyard breeding facility, she and her puppies were split up and adopted to loving homes yet she never forgot her babies or stopped missing them. “She was just skin and bones,” said Elizabeth Spence, Nora’s owner. “You could count all the ribs, and yet she was pregnant. She was dirty and terrified, and she had chain burns around her neck.”

Despite Nora’s complicated history, Spence and her husband fell in love with her and brought her home. “She was clearly abused,” Spence said. “Initially when you’d go to pet her, she’d go down to the floor and she’d hunker away. She looked like she was afraid that she’d be hit or something like that.” But Nora quickly adjusted to her new life and surprisingly got along with the couple’s other dog and three cats. “Then we had kids, and she adjusted really well to them, too. I always felt she missed having her own pups to love, and she transferred that to my kids,” Spence said.

Spence thought Nora would never see her puppies again, but then last year she received a call from a family who owned one of Nora’s puppies and asked if they wanted her since they couldn’t keep her anymore. “We just had a baby, and we had all of these animals, but I gave my husband the proverbial puppy dog eyes,” said Spence, who wanted to reunite Nora with her baby.

And when Nora and her daughter named Remi were reunited, they knew they made the right choice as they instantly recognized each other. “They just immediately started playing — jumping on each other, rolling all around. It was just like Nora and Remi had never been apart. I think Nora definitely knew,” Spence said. “They say that dogs never forget a smell. I don’t know if we’re romanticizing it or not, but I’ve never seen Nora so immediately affectionate with another dog.”

“They’ll play tug of war with the squeeze toy, they’ll roll around, they lick each other,” Spence said. “They sleep on top of each other all the time, and there’s never any fighting or establishing of position. It’s just beautiful. Every day you just see a pile of cats and a pile of dogs and a pile of kids sleeping together. It’s quite surprising to us that we ended up with all these animals who are incredibly loving and affectionate. Everyone gets along. It’s really neat and really fun to see.”

Man Gives Freezing Stray Dog His Coat During A Snow Storm

When the temperature drops, most people can escape the cold in the warmth of their homes. Stray animals, however, have nowhere to escape and are forced to brave the elements.

Recently, Turkey has been experiencing extremely cold weather, and during a snowstorm one evening, a local man from the city of Giresun spotted a freezing stray dog and knew he had to do something to help. The selfless mystery man slowly approached the cold dog, gave it some food, and then took off his coat and carefully draped it over the animal.

The next day, a store owner was reviewing footage from the security camera and spotted the heartwarming act of kindness. He then posted the video, which quickly spread online, and eventually helped identify the kind man, a municipal worker named Bülent Kalpakçıoğlu.

“If I did not give my jacket, it would have eaten at my conscience. While we are sitting warm at home, they are outside in the cold,” said Kalpakçıoğlu, who was then awarded a special certificate by Kerim Aksu, the city’s mayor. “With this action, he gave a lesson in humanity,” Aksu said. “Animals are our friends. We love people, we love our city, we love all living things that are an integral part of us and our city.”

What would you do if were in your car with your child and the car was sinking?

I think it’s safe to say that you would do anything humanly possible to save their child– that’s a fair assumption.

Well, this is exactly what one man did when his baby daughter was in the car with him when their SUV fell off a pier into a lake in Hunan, south-eastern China.

It was evident the man was panicking and responded to passersby shouting “throw (the baby) here!”

In the heart-stopping, the desperate father literally throws his baby through the air, over the water, and across a rocky bank, before landing in the arms of a stranger.

The family’s car was sinking fast, and it was carrying the man’s family who had been visiting their relatives for the Chinese New Year

Every member of the family got out of the vehicle safely and shortly after the entire car sank under water.

Woman Caught On Camera Dragging Cat On Leash For Blocks

Authorities are looking for a woman who was caught on camera cruelly dragging a cat on a lease on the streets of Los Angeles.

A witness named Shifrah noticed the cat “dragger” on Van Nuys Boulevard and saw the woman dragging the cat for at least four blocks.

She explained to KTLA News that she stopped her car and demanded the woman leave the cat alone and stop dragging him. “I was disgusted and I was horrified,” said Shifrah. “The cord is around his neck, and she’s just pulling him. You know he was trying to get away from her.”

Credit: KTLA News

Shifrah then called 911 and continued to follow the woman, and that’s when the situation became even more disturbingShe watched another witness get out of her car, also demanding the cat-dragging monster release the animal.

But, that’s when things escalated. “She ripped the blonde wig off the abuser’s hair. So now they’re kind of arguing; you’re seeing fists flying a little bit. The cat is either dropped or thrown to the ground. The mean lady is saying ‘give me my wig, give me my wig,’ and then she tasered the nice lady. I see flashes of light and she’s tasering the lady, and then that’s when the fight kind of ended,” Shifrah said.

The suspect wound up running away and leaving the cat behind. The cat was then brought into the East Valley Animal Shelter where she has since been named Mischief and is currently receiving treatment for her wounds. Mischief is expected to make a recovery, and the shelter says she should be available for adoption at the end of February.

Shifrah hopes that others will do as she did, and stop if they see an animal being mistreated. Anyone with information is asked to call the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services at 888-452-7381.

Dog Feared For His Life When Owners Chain Him To Top Of Moving Vehicle

A crazy video of a dog spotted chained to the top of a trailer and being towed on Interstate 95 has gained massive media attention.

The video went viral after a Palm Coast resident named Brenna Cronin recorded the incident with her cell phone and posted the video to Facebook, while also sharing it with the Sheriff’s Office.

Since the video, it’s been discovered the dog’s owners are St. Johns County residents, who told investigators that they were taking the dog- a pit bull terrier named Zeus, to go hog hunting, according to a Flagler Humane Society news release.

The Humane Society issued the dog’s owner a $35 ticket for violating a county ordinance on the safe transportation of animals, and officers from Flagler Animal Services and Saint Johns County Animal Control visited the owner’s home to investigate.

“The owner has many dogs living both inside and outside that were all well cared for. All the kennels were clean and there was nothing criminal or out of the ordinary,” Flagler Animal Services Officer Bryan Denker said in the news release.

Credit: Alison Griffin/Faebook

Florida law doesn’t currently regulate how dogs may be transported in vehicles, but a bill titled “Dogs in Vehicles,” Senate Bill 320, was introduced on January 10.

This bill requires dogs being transported in an open pickup truck bed or trailer to be in a ventilated container or securely tethered to prevent falling or injury.

The text of the bill, however, contains exceptions for farm dogs actively being used for farming, and for “a hunting or sporting dog being used at a hunting site, sporting event, or between hunting sites or sporting events.”

Do you think this is a safe way to transport an animal?

In one of the cutest rescues, quite possibly, ever, a shepherd girl and her dog rescue a newborn goat and its mother.

The Hurriyet Daily News posted the heartwarming photos on their website, which were reportedly shot in the Black Sea province of Rize.

Rize is one of the smallest provinces of Turkey on the Black Sea Coast, but also one of the most important since it’s the tea industry center. Basically, it’s unlike anything we’d ever see in the United States.

In the adorable photos, the shepherd and her dog are shown on top of a snowy mountain, making an incredible team! The dog carries the baby goat in what looks like a knapsack, while the shepherd carries the mother goat on her back.

The newborn goat even appears to be smiling in the photos!

We wish we had more information about this shepherd and how the baby goat and its mother are doing, but for now, I guess we’ll have to enjoy the photos.

The Hingham Police Department in Massachusetts shared heartbreaking photos of an abandoned dog on their Facebook page whose owner left him in a cage.

The dog was found on 158 Downer Avenue in Hingham on Monday and authorities are hoping someone recognizes the dog, so they can identify his owners.

Police from the department wrote on their Facebook page: “Recognize me? This dog was found in this cage with blanket, leash, food, dog coat and toys on side of road near 158 Downer Ave. at 11:19am today. Had been there less then an hour. It had no microchip.”

In just one day, the heartbreaking photos garnered a ton of attention on social media and numerous people offered to adopt the abandoned dog.

Since being found, the dog has been taken to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, and he has no serious injuries.

It’s uncertain why the dog’s owners would give him up in this way, but it’s possible they were afraid the dog might be euthanized if brought to a shelter.

Regardless of the reason, abandoning an animal is illegal and cruel.

When a little dog began chasing a bird across a boating lake at Alexandra Palace in north London, he ran into trouble.

The tiny pup fell right into the frozen water and became trapped. An onlooker told The Sun, “I was at the cafe getting a herbal tea when I heard this massive commotion. I went out and saw there was a dog in the middle of the lake through the ice.”

Credit: Alamy

“People said the dog had chased a bird onto the ice and fallen through,” she continued. Almost immediately, the dog’s babysitter jumped into the freezing water to save the dog’s life.

The onlooker told The Sun“I saw a girl at the side take off a green jacket and her shoes and she jumped in. She had to smash through the ice and the dog was about ten metres away she had to smash through to get to it.”

Once she got the dog to the side and he was lifted out, she got out of the water. “A girl who worked at the cafe got her some dry clothes and then got driven home,” the woman said.

While the dog walker is unidentified, she was very brave to jump in after the dog because she could have experienced frostbite herself.

Luckily, the tiny dog was young and in good health, and neither the walker or the dog suffered any injuries.

We praise this young woman for being so courageous!

With Lyme Disease steadily on the rise in the United States, we have more concern than ever before to steer clear of areas where ticks may be lurking.

Unfortunately, pets are often a lot more adventurous than their owners and tend to wander off to places where they have no idea they can get themselves into trouble with biting bugs.

That’s what likely happened to the small puppy in the video below, who was discovered on the brink of death with thousands of blood-sucking ticks stuck to his weak body. The tiny parasitic arachnids sucked out nearly all of the Mastiff mix pup’s blood, but he refused to give up and die.

According to the poor puppy’s rescuers, the dog was purchased by his owner about 3 or 4 months before he was abandoned and “just left to rot in the compound.”

Thankfully, the heroes at Vet Clinic Gambia discovered this poor dog before it was too late and were able to save him by picking out the tiny ticks and other bug infestations one by one. “No excuses accepted this time,” the heroes wrote alongside this upsetting video.

Doctors Pull Feather From 7-Month-Old’s Neck

Like any new parents, Aaron Whittington and his wife were worried when their 7-month-old daughter started acting strange.

The Whittington’s couldn’t figure out what was bothering their baby girl and her increasing discomfort stumped them until they noticed something extremely odd on the side of her face.”We were just pretty much in disbelief,” Mya’s dad, Aaron Whittington, 26, told ABCNews.com. “I was at work and my wife noticed that the left side of her neck had started to swell, and she called me at work and asked if we should take her to the emergency room,” Whittington said.

[ABC News]
Mya’s pediatrician told the shocked parents that their daughter likely inhaled or tried to swallow a feather, causing it to become lodged in her throat. That’s when Mya’s body “just being crazy, just started to reject it and force it out the side of her neck,” according to her dad.”[The pediatrician] threw on gloves and she pulled out a 2-inch feather and she’s like, ‘It’s a feather.’ And we’re like, ‘What do you mean it’s a feather?’ And she showed us,” Whittington said, still in disbelief.

“As far as how the feather got into the side of the neck, our doctor says we’ll probably never really know,” he said. “But her best guess is that she either inhaled it or tried swallowing it and it got lodged in the throat somewhere, and the body, just being crazy, just started to reject it and force it out the side of her neck.”

Thankfully, the little girl’s bizarre blemish healed on its own and never caused her further discomfort. Yet that didn’t stop her story from spreading worldwide when it happened in 2012. “We’ve been extremely, extremely surprised,” Aaron Whittington said to ABCNews.com. “We’ve gotten stories in Kenya, India, the U.K. It’s really crazy.”

Any animal lover can tell you that dogs are known as Man’s Best Friend for good reason. However, if there is any creature on earth that can come in at a close second, it might be the incredible elephant.

Like many poor dogs who have seen the worst side of mankind, humans have done some pretty terrible things to most elephants on the planet. We have stolen their land, torn them from their families, and forced them into slavery, many times for our own entertainment.

Yet elephants still learn to trust their human companions and protect their caretakers when they fear danger. In the following video, a 17-year-old elephant at a nature park sanctuary in Chiang Mai, Thailand shows this incredible bond when she starts to worry about one of her caretakers.

The gigantic elephant named Thongsri comes right to the rescue of her mahout, which is someone who works with, rides, and tends an elephant, and has taken care of her for most of her life.

Tiny Dog Clings To Shelter Staff After Family Surrendered Her

After being surrendered to a busy, high intake animal control agency in California, an 18-year-old dog was devastated.

18 years is a long time by any standard, but in dog years, 18 years is the equivalent of 126 years- which is a lifetime. It’s hard to imagine having everything you know change at age 126, and this is what a tiny Dachshund mix named Muneca was going through when she was surrendered- her world was turned upside down.

Muneca was surrendered to the Baldwin Park Shelter on October 11 and while there are not many details about why her owner surrendered her, she was found to be blind, deaf and covered in fleas.

Credit: John Hwang/Facebook

A Baldwin Park Shelter volunteer named Elaine, who is noted for her amazing empathy and chemistry with shelter animals, was the first person to interact with Muneca.

Photographer John Hwang was also at the shelter when he captured those first few moments between Muneca and Elaine. Hwang can only describe it as Muneca “clinging to Elaine,” as soon as she was picked up. He posted the photo on Facebook, writing a plea for rescue that said, “all she wanted was to be held the whole time.”

Credit: John Hwang/Facebook

The social media post pulled at so many heartstrings, and that’s when the Frosted Faces Foundation, a dedicated senior dog rescue in San Diego received interest in fostering Muneca before they even got her out of the shelter.

When asked what it was about Muneca that really stood out, founder Kelly Smisek said, “She has a very soft face, which I always love.”

Credit: Frosted Faces/Facebook

The next stop for Muneca was to the San Diego Bay Animal Hospital where she was found to be in good health for her age. She then received a warm bubble bath, nail trimming, and after that, she was taken to the beach for the sunset.

Although she couldn’t see the sunset or hear the sounds, Muneca got to feel the sand between her paws and was fed lots of treats.

Since being in the care of Frosted Faces, a number of people were interested in being Muneca’s forever foster family, and she has finally found one!

Frosted Faces hopes that all who have applied for her will consider waiting for another wonderful senior to come through their program.

Just one blistering sunscreen can double a baby’s lifetime risk of melanoma, which is why it’s extremely important to protect their delicate skin no matter what time of the year.

To protect her baby’s skin from the sun, one Australian mom applied a popular kids sunscreen and thought she was doing the best thing for her. However, in the days that followed, mom Sarah Wallace noticed a strange rash that looked like a blister start spreading across baby Chloe’s face.

“Her face looked like a piece of bacon. It’s the only way I can explain it. There was no doubt in my mind it was directly from the product itself,” Wallace said about the Cancer Council’s Kids 50+ sunscreen. After a few days, the massive, painful blister had spread across both cheeks and her nose.

Wallace and other parents have assumed that sunscreens marketed for small children are safe for their skin, but now she’s sharing her story to warn other parents to always check the ingredients in your child’s sunscreen and patch test before applying since some of the harsh chemicals can cause severe reactions on delicate baby skin.

Most people describe the moment they meet their significant other as one of the best moments in their life. However, for one woman, the moment she met her fiancé happened to be the worst time in her life.

On April 15, 2013, Roseann Sdoia was watching runners just before they crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon when she was suddenly hit with shrapnel from pressure-cooker bombs. Boston firefighter Mike Materia saw her get injured, helped keep her calm, and even went to the hospital with her.

In the days that followed, Materia visited Sdoia in the hospital and they quickly became friends. “In the hospital, my mom tried to set me up with him,” Sdoia said. “She was like, ‘Oh, did you see that firefighter? He’s so cute.’ And I was like, ‘Mom, I just got blown up.'”

Sdoia had to have her leg amputated and Materia helped her practice walking, helped her find a prosthetic leg, and sat with her for hours during doctor’s appointments. “I knew I was starting to have feelings for him because he was so kind and caring,” Sdoia said. “And he has an unbelievable smile.” By that June, the two went on their first date and just got engaged this past December.

“He’s seen me on my worst day,” said Sdoia, who will marry Materia sometime in late Fall. “I do feel that, in a sense, some things happen for a reason.”

Miracle Cat Survives Being Shot Him With An Arrow

When stray dogs and cats come into contact with humans, they usually get a few friendly pats and sometimes a bit of food, which is why so many are so trusting of humans.

Unfortunately, last month a friendly, trusting stray cat learned the hard way that not all humans are kind to animals when he was shot by a human with a bow and arrow and then left to suffer in pain and slowly die. Thankfully, an animal-loving New Jersey woman found the feral cat before that could happen.

Every morning before work, Kelly Shannon goes out to feed a few sweet stray neighborhood cats, however, when she went out to feed them one morning last month, she discovered one of her favorites, a male cat named Sparky, was impaled by an arrow.

“In fact, the arrow was still protruding from his body, and it was evident that the person who shot Sparky did so while he was facing the shooter. The arrow struck him in the left shoulder area, and the tip exited his left flank, leaving the shaft embedded in his body,” Sparky’s rescuers explained.

With a neighbor’s help, Shannon got Sparky, who was amazingly calm and friendly despite what had happened, in a travel crate and rushed him to a veterinarian. The vet was convinced he would be able to recover from an injury so bad, but when he examined Sparky’s scans, the vet was stunned to see the arrow miraculously missed all of his vital organs.

The team quickly got to work removing the arrow in surgery, which was thankfully a success. Sparky spent a few days recuperating, got neutered, and was given the rest of his treatments so he could go home with a loving family and start his new life.

Rescuers Revive Starved Dog So Weak That She Couldn’t Stand Up

When rescuers approach an abused or tortured animal, they often run away and try to hide since their understandably so afraid of humans.

So when rescuers from an animal shelter approached a dog that had been found and dropped off, they were stunned when she made no effort to hide from them. The tiny dog who was later named Liz was covered in matted fur that blinded her and was soaked in urine yet her legs didn’t seem to be injured.

Trio Animal Foundation came to pick her up since she clearly would need more care than the shelter could provide, and they immediately rushed her to the vet, who got to work bringing her body temperature up and shaving the dirty, matted fur off her body. Once shaved, the team saw just how badly Liz was starving. “Besides being cold, she weighed in at only about 4 pounds. A dog her size should weigh at least 10-12 pounds,” her rescuers explained.

“After x-rays and blood work have been taken, it is believed that Liz cannot stand because she is simply too weak from starvation,” the team said. For now, Liz is getting a small amount of food throughout the day that will increase over time and has an IV of fluids and medicine so her body doesn’t shut down. “Her legs are so thin and her skin so delicate, it is a miracle that the catheter is even staying in.”

For now, the team is working around the clock to save Liz and is doing everything in their power to make her healthy and make sure she’s as comfortable and as relaxed as possible.

Babysitter Donates Liver To Baby She Watched All Summer

Every mother wants a babysitter she can trust around her children, but this 22-year-old caretaker went above and above.

Before going back to school, Kiersten Miles of New Jersey was hired to watch 10-month-old Talia Rosko during the summer. Miles was recommended to Talia’s mom, Farra Rosko, through a previous sitter.

Miles knew that Talia was on the transplant list due to biliary atresia, a disease of the liver and bile ducts that occurs in infants and can cause liver failure. Talia’s mother, of course, explained more about the condition to Miles over the three weeks she had been working there.

Credit: Inside Edition

“I guess about three weeks into it. I was just curious to know more,” Miles told InsideEdition.com. “Knowing that my blood type was compatible and I had already grown so close to Talia within three weeks, I couldn’t not find out if I was a match.”That day, Miles went home and did research, and presented the idea to her mother, who was onboard with it.

Miles then presented the idea to Rosko and her to send over the necessary paperwork. “I came home from work one day and said she wanted to see if she was compatible. I said, ‘This is a serious surgery and you need to talk to your parents,'” Rosko told InsideEdition.com. “I was just taken aback. I didn’t really know her. But I didn’t want to get my hopes up or be weird about it so I said, ‘I’ll send you the forms.’”

Credit: Inside Edition

Miles wound up going through with everything she said she was going to do, including hospital testing and psychiatric evaluations, all for little Talia.

“She is such a happy and laid back baby and it was crazy to know that so much internally was wrong and she was still so happy. I just got so attached to her from being around her,” Miles said. “I think I would have regretted it if I didn’t find out if I was a match. It’s a small sacrifice compared to saving a life.”

Credit: Inside Edition

It turns out that Miles was a match for Talia, and on January 11, 16-month-old Talia received part of Miles’ liver in a successful surgery. “It was just surreal and powerful day. My babysitter is giving my daughter a new chance at life,” Rosko said.

After surgery, Baby Talia was out of the hospital in just nine days, which is uncommon for a baby her age, and Miles was already back in college. “Kiersten has changed all of our lives,” Rosko said. “We would still be waiting on the list as my daughter would be deteriorating if not for her.”

“I prayed every night for the perfect liver to come and it did. Kiersten took a nannying job for the summer before going back to school and she got a whole family. We will forever be indebted to her,” she told Inside Edition.

Doctors Save Baby From Brain Damage By Cracking His Skull

Many first time moms are understandably obsessive about their baby’s health and tend to panic when even the most minor health issues arise, which is why doctors often brush aside their concerns.

When Sophie Murray gave birth to her first son Finley in March 2015, she and her sister noticed that his head appeared to be misshaped, but doctors assured them it was normal. “As Finley got bigger and bigger his head got more and more triangular,” Murray said. “He had a ridge that stuck out running down his forehead and a permanent vein down his nose that looked like a bruise.”

And when Finley started getting frequent viral infections, Murray was convinced that something was seriously wrong. “It got to the point where every day he would be clutching his head and screaming from the pain.” Yet doctors continued to insist nothing was wrong.

Murray knew something was wrong and sent pictures of Finley to four different specialists, who replied almost immediately to tell her that he had a serious condition that needed to be treated immediately. Within a week, a specialist took scans of Finley’s head and told Murray that he had metopic synostosis, a type of craniosynostosis which plates in the skull fuse too early in an infant’s skull. Without surgery to relieve the pressure and accommodate a growing brain, the skull literally squeezes the brain to the point where it causes permanent brain damage if not treated before 18 months.

The next week, the 17-month-old went into surgery just in time. “They cut his head open from ear-to-ear, and the surgeon said when they opened up his skull, Finley’s brain was bulging at the top from where it had been so squashed,” Murray said. “They cut off bits of his skull and put them back together like a jigsaw. All his face bones had to be pushed forward.”

“Without the surgery, Finley would have had serious development issues, he would have had facial deformities, he would have been bullied at school. That is the opposite of what you want for your child,” said Murray who is sharing her story to warn parents about the condition. “And Finley is doing amazingly since… I’m so proud of him.”

This Grandma Couldn’t Possibly Love Her Rescue Dog Any More

73-year-old Jerri McCutcheon may have rescued her little Chihuahua named Minnie, but she claims Minnie rescued her.

“She brings back that presence in my home I didn’t recognize was gone,” McCutcheon told ABC News of Minnie, a teacup Chihuahua weighing only 3.9 pounds. “Now the house doesn’t feel as empty. I haven’t had anyone to talk to. It was a void and she has filled that.”

Since losing her 11-year-old Chihuahua-Pomeranian mix named Bandi last May, McCutcheon swore she wouldn’t have another dog. “I just thought, ‘I can’t do this anymore at age 73. I just can’t go through that.”

But her granddaughter Breanna Meuchel knew that McCutcheon just wasn’t the same since losing Bandi. McCutcheon recalled Breanna saying to her, “Nana you look so sad. I think you need another puppy.’” So, before Christmas, Breanna started looking at all of the humane societies to try and find her grandmother a dog.

“My theory is, adopt, don’t shop. But I never really found anything. It wasn’t until I looked at the Missoula humane society and found Minnie. The very next day I went up to meet her. Shortly after, I had my grandma go up and look at her,” Breanna told ABC News.

It turned out to be a match made in heaven. The staff at the Humane Society of Western Montana snapped heartwarming photos of their emotional first meeting, and they have gone viral.

“This little girl is starved for love, and I’ve got it to give,” McCutcheon said of her new 10-year-old pup. “When I take them, I take them for life. She’s probably the most loving dog, and I’ve had several. We’re going through some learning processes, but that’s what makes it work.”

Minnie has been living with McCutcheon for only a week now, but she’s already made herself at home. “She’s just skipping around,” said McCutcheon. And she’s claimed the couch. It used to be mine, but it’s hers now.”
