Seven horses are alive today thanks to the quick-thinking of a local search and recovery team in Ballymacegan Island in Ireland.

One can only imagine how cold the waters of River Shannon must be during this time of year, as the team of heroes from Athlone Sub Aqua Club noted the endangered horses you can see below in the distance would have never survived the night. Screen Shot 2015-12-15 at 10.54.46 AM

According to TheJournal.ie, the seven large horses became trapped on Ballymacegan Island, which is on the border of Tipperary and Galway, as the tide quickly rose on the River Shannon.

As you can see in the video below, the horses were stuck in about 3-4 feet of water and were unable to save themselves from the rapid rush of water. That’s when the horses owner called the scuba club to help.

Search and Recovery Coordinator Liam Sherringham told TheJournal.ie “With the help of our rescue boat and Jetski, and a large number of our divers in drysuits, we successfully swam the horses off the island and over to the Galway shore.” Sherringham said the horses were visibly cold and distressed when the heroes arrived and that the dramatic rescue could have easily ended in tragedy.

“Once the horses had rested on the Galway shore, they were taken away by lorry and thankfully are in a warm stable.” Sherringham said.

Nurses work tirelessly as they dedicate their lives to saving complete strangers. Yet the minute those patients get better, they often disappear from their nurses’ lives forever without so much as an update. This nurse, however, got something even better when a grateful patient tracked her down years later.

As Amanda Scarpinati grew up, she would often stare at pictures that her family had saved of the kind nurse who had watched over and cared for her when she was in the Albany Medical Center hospital after being badly burned. “People would ask me ‘who’s the woman holding you?’ and I never had a name,” Amanda said.

38 years after her hospital stay, Amanda decided to post her photos to social media in an attempt to locate and meet her guardian angel. “I would love to know her name and possibly get a chance to talk to her and meet her,” she wrote in her Facebook post.

Soon after that post, Amanda was contacted by another nurse who claimed she had worked with the mystery woman in 1977. The stranger was right, the nurse in the photos was Susan Burger, and they immediately got to work to reunite the two.

Susan was just 21 years old at the time the photos were taken, and Amanda was one of her first patients. “All I could think of was when I picked her up, she just melted in my arms,” Susan said of the patient she never forgot.

“I get to know the woman in the picture now,” Amanda told NBC News.

The season gift giving is well underway and even though it’s the thought that counts when it comes to the holiday season, this next video is proof that the right wrapping can do wonders for an otherwise ordinary present.

During December, most people aren’t too excited about spending extra money on fancy ribbon, bows, cards, and paper on top of the gifts they’ve already bought. However, a little extra effort can go a long way when giving a gift. Going the extra mile will make that special someone feel even better and there’s no reason why anyone should get sloppy when wrapping up something that cost a pretty penny.

Meet Oddball: The Amazing Guardian Dog That Protects Fairy Penguins

Middle Island, a small, rocky island off the shore of south-western Victoria, Australia, is home to the world’s smallest species of penguins called little, or fairy, penguins.

When foxes started to take over the island and hunt the miniature creatures, the natural population of about 20,000 little penguins dwindled to a staggering 27 chicks. Thanks to the quick and inventive thinking of a local farmer named Swampy Marsh, the defenseless penguins now had a protector.

Marsh suggested sending his Maremma Guardian dog named Oddball over to the island to protect the penguins since they’re bred to protect chicken, sheep, and goats.

When Oddball was sent to the island in 2006, the fox’s patterns instantly changed. “Putting a dog on the island changed the hierarchy. The foxes can hear the dogs barking, they can smell them so they go somewhere else,” said Peter Abbott from the Penguin Preservation Project.

Since Oddball and her fluffy successors were sent to guard Middle Island 10 years ago, not a single penguin has been killed by a fox.

Today, two Maremma Guardian dogs named Eudy and Tula spend five days each week on the island during the breeding season, which lasts from October through March, to ensure the fairy penguin population continues to grow.

Watch the video below to hear more about how Oddball single-handedly saved the fairy penguins of Middle Island.

The Middle Island Maremma Project has won numerous conservation awards, and has even garnered so much media attention that the unbelievable story is being made into a movie, which is set to be released this year. Take a look at the adorable movie trailer for Oddball here.

Dog Dancing To ‘Good Vibrations’ Will Have You On Your Feet

dog dancing 1

While most dogs like to run outside or play catch to blow off some steam, this Boston terrier enjoys dancing as a means of letting loose.

And he doesn’t just like to break it down to any song, rather he prefers good old ’90s hip hop.

When his owner started playing the song, Good Vibrations by Marky Mark ft. Funky Bunch, he went nuts!

He bobbed his head from side to side and moved his feet, and all the while you would think you were watching a doggie music video.

If this dog isn’t a good poster pooch for Good Vibrations, then I don’t know who is.

We’d love to see him dance to other hits like Montell Jordan’s This Is How We Do It, or MC Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This

Until then, we’ll have to enjoy this one. And trust us, it’s good:

Did this pooch make you want to get up and dance? If so, please SHARE it with your friends on Facebook.

There’s no shortage of funny cat videos on the internet, but this one comes just in time for Christmas.

When Gina Cappi put a tiny Santa hat on her cat named Coco, the most incredible thing happened.

She started doing this funny swaying from side to side, with enough dramatics to star in her own soap opera

While the reality is the hat was probably covering poor Coco’s eyes and she just wanted it off, it’s funny to think she just dislikes Christmas, and this was her reaction to it.

Gina Cappi captioned the hysterical video, “Due to its hilarity, I felt this was needed.#yourwelcome”

By this time of year, most of us are going a little crazy from all the holiday hits on the radio. You can probably recite them all better than naming what you ate yesterday, but I guarantee that you’ve never heard ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’ like this before…

When you think of Christmas and all December traditions, jokes and laughter don’t usually come to mind. However, we know well here at LifeDaily that any time you’ve got the camera rolling on the kids, you’re guaranteed to catch something hilarious.

That couldn’t be more accurate in the video below, which was first published a few years back. Although we don’t know much of a backstory for the cute carolers in the clip, it’s clear that the group of kids’ holiday play didn’t exactly go as planned.

When the Oregon Zoo planned to open a new habitat, they enlisted the help of Lilly, the 3-year-old Asian elephant, to test out the new 160,000 gallon elephant pool.

Today, the Oregon Zoo opens their brand new elephant habitat called Elephant Lands to the public, but before the grand opening, zookeepers wanted to be sure their elephants liked the new space, which features an 80-foot wide and 12-foot deep pool. During all the excitement, however, Lilly seems to forget that she’s not an agile fish, but actually a large elephant.

The older elephants skillfully waded into the water, and kept their trunks in the air as they went for a refreshing dip.

Lilly, on the other hand, got so excited with her new pool that she practically thought she was a fish while thrashing around and fully dunking her head under the water.

The holidays are the season for giving, and one Secret Santa in Pennsylvania made Christmas for many this year.

This anonymous man apparently walked into a Walmart in Harrisburg on Monday and shelled out $79,000 to pay off everyone’s layaway bills.

“Probably about 1 o’clock this afternoon, I had an anonymous donor come in,” store manager Christy Evans said. “It was specifically the holiday layaways…it’s a lot of mixed reactions, complete relief to, there’s been customers just breaking down and crying.”

When people started realizing their layaways were paid thanks to a good samaritan, they were overjoyed.

Shopper Tracy Folks was one of the lucky receivers and when her mom called her to tell her the news, she says, “I started crying right away on the phone, because I was actually going to have to cancel my layaway.”

“Today was definitely a big deal. It’s been a rough year this year,” she continues.

Another recipient said, “(I) want to say thank you, whoever you are. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Thank you very much.”

This anonymous man paid off what others were working to pay off, and these receivers will be forever grateful.

Low-Income Kids Choose Between Their Christmas Wish And A Surprise For Their Families

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 11.33.25 AM

The holiday season is all about giving, but ask any kid what they’re looking forward to on Christmas morning and they probably won’t feel the same way.

Sadly, not every child who celebrates the holiday gets to wake up on Christmas morning to a pile of presents under the tree. And many families, like those of the children in the following video, can’t even afford to bring home a tree for the holiday.

That’s why Metro Atlanta Boys & Girls Club decided to team up with UPtv to give back to some of their young members who come from low-income families, while also testing them about the true meaning of the season.

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 11.45.52 AM

[Source: YouTube]

In the video, we see kids tell the folks behind the camera what they wish Santa would bring them for Christmas. Next, they reveal what they think other family members would love to unwrap or something their entire family could enjoy, like a new TV or coffee maker.

That’s when the kids are surprised with both gifts – and a difficult decision to make. Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 11.18.17 AM

[Source: YouTube]

“Is that a really hard question?” the man behind the camera asks some of the kids, already knowing the answer.

However, whether what happens next surprises you or not, you have to admit that their 100% unrehearsed responses were completely amazing.

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 11.18.12 AM

[Source: YouTube]

Every single child, knowing they probably won’t get the gift they wished for on Christmas, chose the family gift over their own.

“Your family matters, not legos, not toys, your family,” one boy says around 1:52. “So it’s either family or legos and I choose family.”

Screen Shot 2015-12-16 at 11.18.41 AM

[Source: YouTube]

Another child explains that if they take the gift for them, other family members will lose out on something, while the rest go on to say how much their parents sacrifice for them.

That’s when the video gets really good and UPtv announces that because they choose the gift of giving, they’ll go home with something for themselves, too.

This video proves that sometimes, even when you’re young, having less really makes you appreciate more important things in life…like family.

With so many spoiled kids getting extravagant gifts like these ones this holiday season, it’s so beautiful to see how some people still understand the true meaning of Christmas.

This holiday season, let this sweet story be a reminder of what matters most! Please SHARE this video on your Facebook page to make friends smile today.

Family Turns To Facebook To Find Brother Given Up For Adoption

Most people would turn to adoption agencies to find a family member, but the Kramer’s are hoping Facebook will bring them a Christmas miracle.

Geraldine “Jerri” Kramer gave birth to her son in the summer of 1963 when she was 19-years-old.

Forced by her parents to give her newborn up for adoption, the ailing 72-year-old mom now wants to meet her son more than ever.

Catholic Social Services took custody of her son over 50 years ago, and never told her where the infant she called “Jack” would be going.

“The nurses misunderstood that I was giving him up for adoption and so they put him in my arms right after birth before taking him away,” Kramer said. “I want him to know that I have always loved him.”

Kramer later married her husband, Joseph on May 7, 1966, and the couple have five children together.

On Thanksgiving Day of this year, Kramer’s children decided they wanted to use social media to find their brother.

“We have joined and searched adoption registries,” the siblings wrote. “We’re praying this may work, as it has for others. It has been Mom’s decades-long wish to find you, and we would love to meet our big brother.”

“My mom feels the need to see him,” said 49-year-old Henson. “She’s been marking his age this entire time and wonders about him every day.”

“I have this feeling it could happen before the holidays,” Henson said. “We are praying for a Christmas miracle.”

UPDATE: Marie Henson noted in her Facebook post that she believes they may have found their brother, and are waiting on DNA tests to confirm.

This truly proves the power of social media, and how it can be used in a positive way.

Please SHARE this touching story with your friends on Facebook, and pray for many more miracles this Christmas!

Serving your country is one of the most selfless things a person can do in their lifetime, especially when they have to leave more at home than many others.

As you can see in this touching tribute to our heroes, the holiday season can be pretty tough for military families who have a loved one away on deployment. We here at LifeDaily love to honor and remember these amazing men and women by sharing uplifting stories like the one below, to help remind others to be thankful and give back.

In the following video, we see a little boy named Trevor being called up to the stage during a school assembly. Jacksonwald Elementary School apparently has a Thanksgiving giveaway celebration every year, so 6-year-old Trevor believed he was receiving a surprise for the holiday.

However, as the first grader hit the stage and was handed over a giant turkey to bring home to his family, we realize that the surprise was a much bigger one than he first thought.

That’s when Air Force Master Sgt. Heather Michaud, a 15-year military veteran and single mother, sneaks out behind her little boy from backstage to give him the surprise of a lifetime.

Michaud had been on deployment for more than a year in South Korea before she returned home to spend the holiday season with her son, who had been living with his grandfather.

The Airman told Reading Eagle her son is excited to have her home again. “I don’t think it matters where we’re going. He just says, ‘I want to live with you again.’ He’ll go anywhere.”

In the animal kingdom, the wildebeest is a reliable source of food for lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, and hyenas.

Normally traveling in herds, the wildebeest is rarely alone, for if they were, they’d become a tasty meal for a hungry predator in a matter of moments.

So when this baby wildebeest was seen traveling alone, it was clear the poor thing either strayed away mother its mother, or something may have happened to her.

The wildebeest was in a bad situation, and to make matters worse, a lion was approaching.

The baby darted for his life, but the lion soon caught up to him.

But you’ll never believe how the lion responded- he actually protected the baby wildebeest!

And while at first you’re dumbfounded that the lion doesn’t eat him, watch what happens when another lion approaches:

Babies Reacting To The ‘Star Wars’ Trailer Is Even More Moving Than The Force

Have you ever noticed that we ADORE watching reaction videos on the internet, especially when it’s babies reacting to something the rest of us consider mundane?

There’s this video of the baby who caught her reflection for the first time and gave us an expression of pure bliss. And let’s not forget baby Leon who discovered his eyebrows and couldn’t handle his excitement.

Why do babies reacting to things make us squeal like little girls?

Perhaps it’s because these children have such genuine reactions. They neither fabricate their feelings to appeal to social conventions, nor do they hide the intensity of those feelings.

When these kids watched the new ‘Star Wars‘ trailer for the first time, they were shocked, awed, and terrified of the majestic images filling their young brains.

For example, when this little boy sees the opening shots:

And when this girl discovers the look of surprise and confusion:

Likewise, everything these kids feel is filled with deep intensity because they haven’t had the time to become jaded (like the rest of us).

The result? Well, take a look for yourself:

Puppies, babies, and kittens are all incredibly cute, but they have something else in common- their uncanny ability to destroy almost anything. Despite their miniature stature, this adorable motley crew had no trouble demolishing a gingerbread village.

In order to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, DR3, a Danish national television channel, decided to put a bunch of babies, puppies, and kittens in a gingerbread winter wonderland to let them do what they do best: destroy it.

Before letting the rowdy bunch in, the gingerbread village looked like it jumped out of a page from a fairytale, but it wouldn’t last long.

Tired Pigeon Prefers Taking The Train

Next time you underestimate the intelligence of a pigeon, remember this video…

For a long time, pigeons have been known as one of the most intelligent birds.

Since the days of WWI and WWII, pigeons were used during rescue missions, and saved  hundreds of people, as they were able to send messages, and spot life vests in the ocean two times better than humans.

Pigeons can also remember numerous individual images for a long period of time, and they can easily distinguish between a Monet and a Picasso.

So it comes as no surprise that this smart pigeon preferred taking the train instead of walking or flying.

As the bird waits for the train in the video below, he enters and goes straight to a spot, leading us to believe he’s done this many times before.

He appears to be a seasoned commuter- just watch as he paces up and down the platform:

Are you surprised by the pigeon in this video? Let us know in the comments and please SHARE this with your friends on Facebook.
