You can surround your dog with as many cute plush toys and tasty bones as you can buy, but for dogs, the best toys are always free.

This 10-week-old puppy named Heidi is surrounded by chew toys, bones, and even soft stuffed animals, but nothing can keep her entertained quite like a slippery piece of ice. As much as she pounces and bites the piece of ice, Heidi can’t seem to keep up with the slippery toy and it drives her crazy.

Watch the entire video below to see Heidi lose it over a slippery piece of ice.

Can you believe how mesmerized she was by the ice? Let us know in the comments below, and please SHARE this on Facebook.

Puppy Comforts Older Dog Having A Nightmare

When a family brings a new puppy home, an older dog may not have the best initial reaction to it.

Just like with new siblings, the older dog may feel like he/she is not getting as much attention anymore, and may feel neglected. The two will need some time to get acclimated to each other and time to develop a friendship and bond.

The golden retriever puppy and older golden in this video however, seem to be getting along just fine.

The older dog is shown to be having a bad dream, and the puppy wakes up and rushes toward his owner to make sure everything is ok.

Then the puppy walks back over to the dog, stands by him, and acts as a mini protector.

He snuggles up to him at a time where he needs comfort the most, and it is heartwarming!

Ariel Goodman captioned his YouTube video,

“One night I caught my new puppy comforting my older dog during a bad dream. They are quickly becoming new friends.”

Millions of Americans travel during the holiday season, as they make their way home for the holidays. However, before you can blissfully lounge in pyjamas all day eating every last gingerbread man, you’ve got to make it through the nightmare of endless lines, missed connecting flights, layovers, and cancellations.

But United Airlines thought of the perfect way to ease the tension, and make you enjoy your 10-hour delay. As part of their ‘United Paws’ program, the airline company is bringing professionally trained comfort dogs to airports in Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, and Washington/Dulle from Dec. 21 through Dec. 23. The four-legged angels will be greeting customers in order to spread smiles and lessen stress levels.

The United Paws program was a huge success after it was originally introduced last year, so the airline decided to bring these furry pup back to even more airports this holiday season.

“United Paws is a wonderful program that comes at just the right time for some holiday travelers who may be experiencing a bit of anxiety or stress,” Veterinary Consultant Dr. Walter Woolf said. “Research shows that just petting a dog releases oxytocin, the hormone associated with bonding and affection, and also decreases levels of stress, helps us breathe easier and lowers our blood pressure. I’ve experienced this recently and think this is a wonderful idea for holiday travelers.”

Coffee Shop Opens Doors At Night For Abandoned Dogs To Sleep

When abandoned dogs had nowhere to sleep in a neighborhood of Mytilene, Lesbos, a cafe called Hott Spott open their doors to give them a warm place to rest their heads.

The cafe is located in the island’s main port and capital city in Greece, and it closes to customers at 3 each morning, and, in turn, opens its doors to dogs.

A man named Eustratios Papanis, an assistant professor of sociology at the University of the Aegean shared a beautiful photo of the dogs sleeping on soft couches at Hott Spott on Facebook:

Credit: Facebook- Eustratios Papanis

Atonis, a waiter at the cafe told i100.co.uk that the project has been going on since the summer:

“In the city there are many dogs. When the bar closes each night, the dogs come and sleep here. We don’t have a problem. From July, every night there is a dog on the couch.”

Besides stray dogs, the island of Lesbos has been at the center of the international refugee crisis this year. It has affected tourism, but Hott Spott has maintained its popularity, in part because of its project with the dogs.

“Customers have no problems. It is a bit of a thing now – lots of people come with their cell phones,” says Atonis.

There are reportedly over one million stray dogs in the country, due to people not being able to care for them, so they let them go.

But Eustratios Papuans says that since the refugee crisis, there seems to be a shift in the way people are treating others, including stray dogs. “The locals have increased levels of solidarity towards environmental and humanistic issues. The new generation is more sensitive and well informed.”

And we hope that this continues, as well as many more kind gestures towards abandoned dogs!

The truth about cats and dogs? They can be friends after all, but it doesn’t always come easy.

As you can see in this adorable video of a friendly feline giving her canine companion a nice massage, there are plenty of households out there who have both species living in peace.

However, bringing a new family member home is never quite simple and sharing the spotlight always takes some getting used to. Maybe that’s why the cat in the following video is giving his new baby brother the cold shoulder. It’s either that or what we already knew…

It’s not surprising that this seriously adorable video has gone viral since being posted online just two days ago, even if it doesn’t have any sound to accompany the film.

YouTuber September Mar wrote that her newborn puppy Spliff “is a Chihuahua mixed with we think miniature poodle, but she was dropped off so we can’t be sure of anything except her cuteness lol!”

Teeny pup Spliff may be heartbreakingly cute to you or I, but sadly Gucci the cat isn’t having any of it just yet.

The Incredible Moment This Veteran Is Reunited With His Loyal Dogs

When this older veteran landed in the hospital after having a heart attack, the First State Animal Center and SPCA in Camden, Delaware stepped in to care for his two dogs as he focused on getting better.

The situation was only supposed to be temporary, but after weeks without hearing from the old man, the shelter put the dogs up for adoption. Surprisingly, no one had adopted the two adorable dogs named Bailey and Blaze, and when the man finally got out of the hospital, he went straight to find his dogs.

In order to get Bailey and Blaze back, the veteran had to come up with $250 dollars to re-adopt his dogs, but when he went to find them, he was told the money had been taken care of. Volunteers and staff members of the shelter pooled their money to cover the cost of the adoption so that the dogs could be reunited with their rightful owner.

According to Lindsey Carrothers, an adoption counselor, the reunion was incredibly emotional. “You could just feel the love those dogs had for him. And there shouldn’t have been anything, especially money, that should’ve stood in his way to getting his family back,” she said.

Just like this sleepy English Bulldog, who was unpleasantly awoken from his deep dreaming by his prankster human dad, baby Thor needs his beauty sleep and is not too happy about being surprised during his slumber.

It’s 3:30 AM in Thor’s family’s home, and as owner Ray Prevo wrote on YouTube, even this pup knows that is way too early for a wake-up.

However, it’s all part of a day’s work for Prevo, who owns The Bagel Factory in Birmingham, MI and is determined to get his customers the fresh bagels outside of The Big Apple.

You have to love how dedicated Prevo is to his unique craft, but it’s clear this pup needs some time to get used to his new routine.

When the staff at the Monterey Bay Aquarium noticed a wild sea otter swimming into the safe waters of their Great Tide Pool, they began to wonder if something was wrong with her since healthy wild otters rarely visit the safe pool so frequently.

But when the staff got to work one morning, all their questions had been answered. “Around 8:30 a.m., Aquarium staff witnessed a BRAND NEW pup resting on her belly, being furiously groomed by a proud momma,” the aquarium staff wrote in a blog post. As the staff looked closer, they noticed the fluffy sea otter pup was still attached to the umbilical cord.

While still in the water, this new mom quickly fluffed out her newborn’s fur, which helps keep them warm and buoyant.

Lawrence says that before turning his son into an elf on the shelf, he thought someone had to have done this before. But seeing the overwhelmingly positive responses he’s received, it’s quite possible he’s the first one.

Lawrence added that Rockwell was more than happy to play along. He told Today.com,

He’s just a good-natured kid. He’ll be laughing and looking up at me, exactly what we need for the shot. It’s almost like he knows what we’re trying to accomplish.”

Well, how about that for some Christmas Spirit!

Firefighters don’t just put out fires, they have the incredibly difficult task of being first responders to a variety of situations. Not only do they have to make sure everyone is safe, but they also have to make sure they aren’t scared.

When firefighter Russell Whaley arrived at a car accident, he stopped everything to make sure a small boy named Lucas wouldn’t worry as his mother had been injured in the accident.

“Firefighters wanted to check me and my daughter out first because we had the most visible damage,” mom Shana Pacheco told TODAY. “My son started getting worried and scared. He was nervous seeing me with an oxygen mask and all this stuff on me.”

“That’s part of our job. A lot of times we’re dealing with emotional needs. It’s not just putting out a fire, or putting a Band-Aid on a wound. I’m proud of our guys for doing that,” said Keith Welch, Battalion Chief of Chandler Fire, Health & Medical.

Steffani Blair had passed by the accident, and was touched when she saw the firefighter reading to the shaken boy. In her post to Facebook, Steffani wrote:

While everyone walked away with just a few scratches, Pacheco was so impressed with the crew’s care. “Another crew member made him a little hand balloon from a glove and drew a silly face on it,” she said. “You know, that’s not part of their job.”

Hero Boyfriend Gives His Girlfriend His Heart And His Kidney

Most people think Christmas presents have to come in a neatly wrapped box with an elaborate bow, but this man just proved that the best gifts can’t be bought.

When 27-year-old Raquel Gomes started showing signs of kidney disease, a side effect of the genetic disorder Alport syndrome she was born with, she had to begin giving herself dialysis treatments. Every night, Raquel would hook herself up to a machine by 9 p.m., and begin the 10-hour process. Not only was the treatment exhausting, but she was forced to give up her social life and traveling.

None of this, however, scared away Raquel’s 29-year-old boyfriend Bairon Gomez. Three months into her dialysis treatments, Bairon proposed to his girlfriend with a full understanding of what ‘in sickness and in health’ really meant.

But for Bairon, his heart wasn’t enough. He knew the only way they could have a long and healthy life together was if she got a new kidney, so he decided to get tested to see if he might be a match.

“When you see her every day going through the same experience, dealing with the machine . . . I wanted to get tested,” Bairon said.

Turns out, he was a perfect match for his fiancé. The two underwent transplant surgeries the past October, and have been recovering just in time for Christmas.

“I’m not giving her any more gifts. That’s it,” Bairon told the New York Post. “No, I’m only kidding, I don’t look at it like that. I did it to help her get back to her normal life.”

As the old saying goes, “there’s no smoke without fire,” so what is to make of the hundreds of stories about haunted hotels located in various corners of the globe? Just because one hasn’t seen something that doesn’t mean it’s not true…

After all, so many hotel guest have reported things going “bump” in the night, and some of those stories date back hundreds of years. So while we don’t want to be over-skeptical, we are still left wondering if ghosts exist, or if the sounds people hear are just a figment of their over-active imaginations.

This Christmas morning, countless families around the world will be overjoyed with a tiny new fur ball joining the mix. As you can see in this sweet video compilation, there is truly no greater gift than a wet-nosed little baby, but sadly, for all of the puppies out there who are getting adopted, there are countless more strays who need love more than any other canine.

Luckily, there’s at least one less dog out there who finally had his dream come true. Earlier this month, a shy shelter dog at Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, CA had his one wish granted when he was finally adopted after way too long.

Hot Koalas Are Passing Out From The Heat In Australia

A four-day heatwave in the coastal city of Adelaide in Australia has pushed temperatures well above 110 degrees.

While humans have definitely been feeling it, the koala’s have suffered too, as they have been passing out from the stifling heat.

Animal-lovers, including some working for the city’s Koala and Wildlife Hospital, rushed to give the animals a helping hand.

One photo shows a koala drinking out of a water bottle.

But what’s crazy about the photos is that koala’s don’t normally drink water.

They get all the moisture they need from gum leaves, also known as eucalyptus, and they will usually only drink in times of drought when the leaves may not contain sufficient moisture.

But, in the wake of this terrible heat, many koala’s have come down from the trees they normally reside in and have ventured into the streets in search of something to drink.

Genius Dad Makes Adorable Helmets For Son Born With Skull Condition

1-year-old Jack was born with craniosynostosis, which affects the skulls growth pattern, but dad Jonathan Moxey wasn’t about to let that hold his son back.

Luckily for Jack, his form of craniosynostosis was the most treatable type, but he was still required to wear a helmet to protect his head for about nine months until his first birthday. “We thought, this is the hand we’ve been dealt, we can take a very positive attitude about it, or we can be down about it,” Jonathan told Today. “But the last thing we wanted was for someone to feel sorry for Jack, because we were very blessed.”

When Jack first came home with his helmet, Jonathan decided to spruce it up with some paint pens, decals, and tape. In total, Jonathan has made four different helmets, inspired by R2-D2, Luke Skywalker, Biggs Darklighter and Jek Porkins, for his son as his head grew.

“I’ve always been a big Star Wars fan, and I’m definitely not a big sports fan,” Jonathan said. “We were looking for something that would be fun to do with these helmets, to kind of change the attention he would inevitably be getting.”

“Everything looks good so far. In January, he’ll meet with a full team of doctors for another check-up to make sure everything is progressing the way it should, but right now he seems to be a completely normal 16-month-old boy,” Jonathan said.

Jack has since traded in his helmet for a cozy Santa hat.

This California Zoo Gave Their Polar Bears Real Snow For Christmas

Polar bears are made for the harsh, freezing weather in the arctic cirlce, so it’s no surprise that these polar bears absolutely lost it when they saw their Christmas gift straight from the North Pole.

San Diego is normally too warm to snow, so the staff at the Sand Diego Zoo decided to bring 26 tons of pure snow to their polar bear exhibit in order to surprise their three polar bears—Kalluk, Tatqiq and Chinook. Once they saw their gift, the bears blissfully rolled around and wrestled with each other all morning.

The zoo’s staff hid yams, carrots, melons, and beef bones throughout all the snow to encourage the bears to slide, dig, and pounce on the snow. “Bears utilize these behaviors to help them break through ice to reach seal dens. All three bears were rescued at a young age, so they had to learn these behaviors without the help of their mothers,” zoo staff wrote in a post to their site.

“This was a special day for the polar bears, and I could tell they really loved it,” said Susan Purtell, senior keeper at the San Diego Zoo. “It was great seeing them roll around in the snow, showcasing their natural behaviors.”

Surprises like this one never fail to spread joy, especially around this time of year!

Christmas 2015 came a few days early for one football-loving family. Since his family loves the New England Patriots, clever military man Staff Sergeant Shawn Hogan of the U.S. Army decided to gift his parents and siblings with tickets to the Sunday, December 20th game against the Tennessee Titans.

As you can see in this touching photo below, the family was so excited to be honored at the game by their hero son, but they had no idea just how big of a surprise was coming their way.

Like so many soldiers, sailors, Marines and other servicemen and women around the world, the Hogans weren’t expecting Shawn home for the holidays. As you can see in this touching video, December can be especially tough for military families, knowing their loved ones are a world away wishing they were surrounded by family and friends.

Icelanders have a beautiful tradition of giving books to each other on Christmas Eve and then spending the night reading.

The custom is so ingrained in their culture that it’s the reason a majority of books in Iceland are sold between September and December, and it’s called Christmas Book Flood, or Jolabokaflod

During this time of year, many households receive an annual free book catalog of new publications called the Bokatidindi, and Icelanders look at all the new releases and choose with books they want to buy and read on Christmas.

Baldur Bjarnason, a researcher who has written about the Icelandic book industry says, “It’s like the firing of the guns at the opening of the race. It’s not like this is a catalog that gets put in everybody’s mailbox and everybody ignores it. Books get attention here.”

And with a population of only 329,000 people, most are extremely literary. The people of Iceland love to read and write, and according to BBC,

The country has more writers, more books published and more books read, per head, than anywhere else in the world… One in 10 Icelanders will publish [a book].”

Sounds like a wonderful tradition that is great to follow on Christmas Eve. Cozying up to a book by the fire is perfect for any winter evening, especially during the holidays!

What do you think of Iceland’s tradition? Is it one you would want to follow?
