Officer Responds to Shoplifting & Does Something Unexpected

Sarah Robinson, a Kansas mother, attempted to shoplift $300 worth of goods from a Walmart, but she got caught.

Robinson is the widowed mother of 6 girls. She has been living in her car and renting rooms when she can afford it, though it’s very difficult. Without anybody left to turn to for money, she attempted shoplifting shoes, diapers, and baby wipes for her kids, but she didn’t make it out of the store.

When Roeland Park Police Officer Mark Engravalle arrived on the scene, responding to a typical shoplifting call, he did something unexpected. Not only was Robinson not arrested, the officer bought her some of the supplies she attempted to shoplift.

If you’ve ever been on a subway, you’ve probably felt (or at least witnessed) the hassle that is interacting with inconsiderate people.

The subway is a great way to get to-and-from places around your city, but there are some people who think they are more important than others, and just end up causing more problems.

No wonder everyone thinks New Yorkers are so angry. They have to deal with these nine worst people on the subway pretty much every day. Who do you think is the most annoying?

1. The Manspreader

Manspreaders have FINALLY started to be publicly shamed for their tactics. Tumblr is proof that this action has become a plague across our subway systems. Don’t be a manspreader, or you may find your photo on the internet (not to mention, you’re being a pain).

2. The Pole Leaner

In case you missed it, those poles are in the subway to keep people who are standing from falling over. All you need to do is grab it with one hand. But instead, these people “grab” the pole with their entire backs, leaning up against them, and making it impossible for anyone else to grab on.

3. The Loud Talker

Contrary to your belief, not everyone in the world cares about your life. Especially the incredibly boring details you are shouting constantly to your friend. Most commonly guilty of this? Teenagers.

4. The Smelly Food Eater

This one is self-explanatory. It’s a small space. Your food is gross. Don’t make me smell it.

5. The Charger

The subway stops. The doors open. But before you can even think about getting out, some RUDE person has charged off the platform and through the doors, blocking everyone inside from leaving. Thanks.

6. The Reverse Charger

The subway stops. The doors open. And even though you’re standing near the doors, just trying to leave, someone inside is pushing and shoving their way through the crowd because they MUST be the first one to leave. Thanks again.

7. The Squeezer

There’s always one person who–despite knowing that they WILL NOT fit in the car–insists on pushing and shoving their way onto the tiniest ledge left of space, only to realize that space is needed for the door to close.

8. The Cougher

Maybe it’s something about being in a small, metal box low below the earth, but when you’re in the subway, spreading germs just becomes that much worse. COVER YOUR MOUTH.

9. The Blocker

You know you’ve seen him: the guy who stands right in front of an empty seat, as if, by choosing to stand, he is being chivalrous, instead of just being the loser who’s keeping you (and everyone else) from the last open seat.

We’ve all heard the saying before, and as we grow up we start to realize how true it is.

Not sure if it happens naturally, drifting apart from people you once knew, or people just change. There are many reasons why we lose friends in our 20’s. Although we don’t really ever know when we will lose someone we care for, the ones who once meant a great deal to us, we do know what can possibly be the reasons behind their loss.

1. People change

As we grow older we all change, grow, and become different and better or sometimes worse versions of ourselves. This is the obvious leading cause of friendship loss in your twenties. Some studies show that you don’t know who you are, or generally find yourself until your thirties. As you transition into your teenage/early twenty years, you become friends with the people who make the most sense to you and your lifestyle at the time. Then as you grow up, and get more mature, you realize that the people you have been surrounding yourself with have no benefit to you or your lifestyle, so you start to cut and cut and eventually make the necessary changes. This is definitely the hardest way to lose a friendship, because there is no one to really blame. You both just grow into different people with different paths. And when there is no one to blame, the heartbreak lasts longer.

2. You get into fights and let too much time pass

Fighting with friends in high school and college was really NBD because you were forced to see each other sooner than usual, and make up. After you graduated and entered the real world, you realized that you are no longer forced to see anyone you didn’t want to associate yourself with anymore. So if you weren’t interested in reconnecting, and mending the broken friendship, it wouldn’t happen. And then time passes and before you know its been months, and maybe years, and you start to regret not putting yourself out there and apologizing or altering the situation, and then it becomes too late and too much time has gone since you’ve been friends and restarting or apologizing is out of the question.

3. Your goals/views change

Your friendship used to revolve around going out and getting drunk every night and now your goals are to build a successful business, or a family. Your friends get upset that your life goals and priorities have changed and start insulting you, which will ultimately bring down your self esteem, or even worse, your dream.

4. You start dating

You get a boyfriend and suddenly become MIA and lose all the friends you once had while you were single. Friendships have been known to fall apart when one person gets into a lovie dovie love affair. You start to resent the person in a relationship because they get jealous of all the time you are spending with your significant other. Everything in life is unexpected and there are some things that you will have to put first. You friend will have to take a backseat in your life from time to time, a real true best friend would never stand in the way of something that makes you happy and wouldn’t be hurt by this. A good friend understands that you are a part of each other’s lives to make them better, not complicate them.

What is yours will never be lost

If you lose a friend over something stupid, it is what it is and they weren’t ever meant to be yours.

Teen Films His Father’s TSA Pat-Down: Cops Called

“You respect this badge right here.”

That’s what a Transportation Security Administration supervisor told a 16-year-old at the New Orleans Airport while he attempted to film his father’s pat-down. The videographer initially asked the supervisor politely if he could film the process, which the supervisor denied, according to the YouTube post, where the video first appeared. The teen then filmed the pat-down anyway, which resulted in the supervisor calling the police on him. That’s where the video begins.

The videographer stated on YouTube, “he then proceeded to call the police on me unlawfully even after I explained to him that it clearly states on the TSA website that you are allowed to film the TSA agents as long as you don’t film their monitors and are not interfering with their process, which I wasn’t.”

The teenager is absolutely right. The TSA website clearly states it’s okay to film TSA procedures:

After the police showed up, you can clearly see in the video that the officer stood around and really didn’t do very much. As the videographer had said, he wasn’t violating any rules. Of course, this didn’t stope the TSA supervisor from going on a rant about how he should, “respect the badge.”

4 Clever Ways to Stay Cool This Summer Without Going Broke

Summer is the best time of the year!

There’s campfires, the beach, and late night adventures, not to mention the warmth! It’s that glorious time of the year when the weather finally heats up and swaddles you like a blanket of love. Unfortunately, like a clingy one-night-stand, it stays most of the day and well into the night, making it rather burdensome at times. When the heat of summer becomes too much to handle, here are some ways you can beat it without breaking the bank.

  1. Make Yourself Sweat

    Sweat cools the body down by moistening the skin and then evaporating the heat with that fluid (sounds disgusting). It’s like your body’s own personal waterpark that nobody would ever want to attend. For best results, we recommend you go jogging in sweatpants during high noon. Just think, each drop of sweat is like a really cool, invitation-only, Hollywood party  for low temperatures. Just don’t pass out!

  2. Work at the McMurdo Station in Antartica

    McMurdo is the United States’ research base on the coldest continent in the world. The Southern Hemisphere’s winter (which happens to begin in June), has had the coldest temperature ever recorded reach −89.2 °C (−128.6 °F) on July 21, 1983. That will certainly keep you cool. Bonus: because of the location of Antartica, there’s a couple of weeks in June where the sun will not rise, so not only will it be really cold, it will also be really dark (and let’s not forget depressing). Pack your bags and be sure to remember your polar bear spray.

  3. Start using the word “grool”

    Now, I realize this isn’t exactly the most fool-proof way of staying out of the heat, but bear with me because it makes you “cool” of a different sort. You start saying “grool” and people will think you’re rad. These people will also have groovy friends that you can befriend too. Slowly work your way to the top of the “cool” pyramid till you get close enough to Matthew Mcconaughey to talk him into paying for your air-conditioning. It’s a process like everything in life.

  4. Go into Abercrombie and Fitch

    Not only can you combine the previous tactic here (there’s literally nothing in the universe that’s cooler than Abercrombie and Fitch), the store is also the most air-conditioned place on this planet. Simply walk inside, pick up the most expensive item in the store, like this $110 pair of ripped shorts, and then stand there or an hour “debating” whether you want them. Finally, “come to the concision” that you can’t afford them and leave. Repeat everyday until October.

1. Do something new

It doesn’t have to be jumping out of a plane or traveling to a new land. There are a ton of things that are new to you. Meeting new people or going to a new restaurant or museum counts. Anything that isn’t monotony or something you “just always do.”

2. Face challenges

The easiest way to do this is to step outside of your comfort zone. Try something that scares you, or at least makes you uncomfortable. This works as an exercise for he brain by stimulating it, and forcing you to think outside the box.

3. Be creative

This doesn’t mean quit your job to become a musician or a painter, but instead just to let your own brain be it’s most creative. Solve a problem with in a new way, or buy that adults-only coloring book all your friend’s are talking about. Being creative comes in many forms–just try to get away from memorizing facts and move towards analyzing them.

4. Try it the hard way

Technology has simplified everything in our lives–calculating a tip, remembering that actress in that movie. This time, try to do it on your own, as an exercise for your brain. Don’t turn on Google Maps to get somewhere that’s only a few blocks away. Your brain needs (and wants) the work.

5. Network

This tip is the most important, because it is the one that will help you to follow the other four. If you don’t know how to step out of your comfort zone or try something new, then let a new friend do it for you. Including other people in your life will give you new perspectives and make you think differently, which is really a way of trying all of the other tips at once.

Sometimes, you just need something that will get you through the day…like this video of huskies fighting over a toy!

Those of us with siblings know the struggle of learning to share with them. As a kid, we think that everything belongs to us and we simply hate sharing with our brothers and sisters. Well, it turns out dogs aren’t that different. They too have trouble sharing with each other. We found a video that shows four husky pups fighting over a toy, and it’s really precious. Two of the adorable pooches get especially feisty and begin making a precious attempt at growling. Unfortunately, for them, it’s the least intimidating growl on Earth. It’s like a kitten attempting to convince you it’s ready to work for corporate America because it’s wearing a hat. But you know better. He’s just an itty-bitty kitty.

Science has stepped in to prove it. Many studies show what time of day it is best to do certain activities, and if you aren’t following these rules, you might be wasting precious time or energy. Here is a breakdown on how to make your day the most productive, and when to focus on each activity.

Morning: Things You Don’t Like to Do

1. Get the boring tasks out of the way

The best time to pay your bills or clean the house is first thing in the morning. Why? A Cornell study shows it’s because early morning is when we are at our most happy and positive. So you can use that happy peak to your advantage and complete the meaningless or mindful tasks you’ve otherwise been avoiding while you’re still in a good mood.

2. Make appointments as early as possible

Whenever you have to see a doctor or dentist, you should go ahead and make the appointment for the first available slot in the day. The obvious reason for this (for anyone who’s made the mistake of booking an afternoon appointment) is that you’re less likely to wait in the morning–the office hasn’t gotten backed up yet. But there’s another reason, too: studies show that doctors are most likely to miss something in their examination as the day goes on and they become more and more tired.

3. Complete any detail-oriented tasks

Any work that you might have that requires attention to detail should be tackled in the morning. A Penn State study proved that people are more alert in the A.M., and therefore more focused and more accurate.

Afternoon: When you need a Pick-Me-Up

4. Drink coffee

That morning coffee might not be doing you as much of a favor as you think. In fact, the caffeine is your morning coffee is wasted, because you are already your most alert. Hit the coffee shop right after 2:00pm, which is one time of day that your body naturally begins to feel tired. (If you need caffeine in the A.M., the best time for coffee is after 9:30.)

5. Do any creative work

After you’ve finished all of your detail-oriented tasks, the afternoons become the perfect time to let your mind think more freely and creatively. If you have a problem without a clear solution, this is the perfect time to work on it. Creative problem solving comes much more naturally when you’re feeling more tired, according to an Albion College study.

5. Take your medicine

Specifically, if you’re taking heart medication or blood pressure medication, the effects are more positive when the pills are taken at night. Your blood pressure is naturally at it’s lowest between midnight at 4:00am, so adding the pill to your nightly routine will keep you covered all through the day (even when blood pressure is at it’s highest in the afternoon).

6. Work out

There are a ton of benefits to completing your work out in the late afternoon or night time. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, you will be at your peak performance after work hours, because your body temperature is at it’s highest. That also leads to more muscle mobility, which means you’re getting the most out of your efforts, and you’ll have a lesser chance of injuring the muscles.

Dolphins Spotted Riding Whales Off the Coast of Hawaii

According to new research, dolphins not only interract with humans, but also with whales!

It has been understood for many years that dolphins and whales are incredibly intelligent, and playful creatures.

However, a photographer named Lori Mazzuca has recently spotted a bottlenose dolphin and humpback whale becoming especially close in Hawaii.

The dolphin was riding on the whale’s back, and Mazzuca observed them playing together- the dolphin testing how long it could stay balanced on the humpback whale’s head as it swam along.

A powerful swimmer the dolphin appeared to be as it slid down the whale’s back, tail-first before maneuvering its way back on top for another ride.

Whoever said cats and dog can’t be friends never met this unlikely pair?

Bonedigger is a 350lb lion who’s best friends with the world’s most daring pooch. Milo is a dachshund, with unparalleled fearlessness. That’s because Milo is Bonedigger’s personal dentist. He sticks his whole head close enough to the lion’s mouth to be a tasty treat, and Bonedigger just sits there enjoying it.

Yeah, it’s actually quite disgusting in an adorable kinda way:

It’s an odd friendship that you wouldn’t expect from animals we presume are natural-born enemies. But the two have an adorably symbiotic relationship and they’ve clearly shown that harmony can exist between a natural born killer, and his hot dog. It’s a win/win for both though: Bonedigger gets a clean mouth, and Milo gets a tasty treat (though he really does need to raise his standards when it comes to snacks).

8 Ways To Free Up Memory Space On Your iPhone/iPad

As we take photos on our phone, download apps, and sync music, our storage dwindles down until we one day we get that dreaded “Storage is Full” message.

In order to get the space back on your phone that you so desperately need, LifeDaily has compiled 8 Ways To Free Up Memory Space On Your Iphone/Ipad:

1. Check your usage

To figure out which one of your apps is taking up most of your GB’s, tap on Settings> General> Usage> Manage Storage, and see which one is hogging the space.

2. Get rid of unplayed games

Games may be a great time waster, but they are notorious for taking up space. While you’re managing your storage, it may be best to start deleting the games that you downloaded and either played once, or never played.

3. Get rid of old podcasts

If you have tons of old podcasts hanging around in your library that you’ve already listened to, they will start to add up. To delete old podcasts, swipe left on the episode to delete it.

4. Use the ICloud to store photos

By having your photos backed up automatically to a cloud-based storage system like Dropbox or Google+, you leave your photo library free to fill it up as much as you like. To use Google+ for example, just download the Google+ app> Sign In or Up> Select Auto Back-Up.

5. Stop using Photo Stream

Apple’s Photo Stream automatically syncs the last 1,000 photos you’ve taken, which is an equivalent of 1GB. If you have this function enabled, you have will these 1,000 photos stored twice on your devices, taking up an unnecessary amount of space. To turn it off, go to Settings> Photos & Camera> Toggle the Photo Stream button.

7. Only save HDR photos

If your iPhone is savings two photos for every one that you take, you’re storing both the normal photo and a High Dynamic Range (HDR) version. There is no need to keep both versions, so it makes sense to go to Settings> Photos & Camera> Toggle Keep Normal Photo.

8. Erase browsing data regularly

Just like on your computer, caches and cookies need to be erased on your tablet and smartphone. To delete the browsing data in Safari for example, go to Manage Storage> Safari App> Website Data> Remove All Website Data.

This is Why Shia LaBeouf Wants You To ‘JUST DO IT!’

“Yesterday you said today, so now just do it!”

Creative genius, performance artist, actor, and former Disney Channel star (yeah, remember those days) Shia LaBeouf recently raised quite a few eyebrows when he, Nastja Rönkkö & Luke Turner, collaborated with CSM students to create a video project entitled #Introductions. While some of you may have been cracking up over all the parodies, others were probably wondering why the heck our beloved Shia was doing this (probably because he simply wanted to “just do it”).

Turns out, according to Dazed, the piece was an art project in which students would write some kind of performance art for Shia to act out. Whether it was simply breathing, reading, or screaming motivational slogans in your face, the actor said he would do it in front of a green screen, which anybody could later edit to use as an introduction for their own projects. I guess this makes him sound a little bit less crazy now.

Art student Joshua Parker contributed the “just do it,” piece was, who suggested Shia perform the words from the famous slogan. Josh spoke with Dazed and said he wanted to examine consumer culture, particularly in relation to the fitness industry.

I feel a culture is being created where it is fashionable and marketable to be healthy. This way of life is leading to potential “health anxiety” with the increase in “need” for health tech, vitamin supplements and body trackers that remind us to stand up and walk, to “Just do it!”

Josh also said he wanted to focus on the campaigns that encourage us to “just do it,” without ever telling us what it is. “[It is] just the fact that we just have to be doing something! These parodies and adaptations highlight the reflection that the ‘JUST DO IT’ idea and slogan can relate to anything.]
