For some who have never tried meditation, it can be hard to get in the hang of it.
The thought of it is scary enough- because having to sit uninterrupted for 10 minutes or so is not easy.
But, as a person trying to get into meditation myself, the benefits seem to far outweigh any cons, or having to get in the hang of it as least.
To do it seems far more beneficial than not to do it.
Checkout the 10 things meditation helps with:
1. Clarity
Meditation sharpens your senses, and reduces your mental clutter and confusion. It enables you to think more clearly and notice the world around you in greater detail. You are able to appreciate the little things like the taste of your coffee, or the feeling of the wind on your face.
2. Focus
During meditation, you are focusing on your breathing, posture, and possibly a mantra, so by doing so you are able to learn the art of concentration. You learn how to focus your attention where you choose, without getting distracted, thus enabling you to be more focused at work, and in other areas of your life, like in your relationships.
3. Creativity
Meditation opens the mind to new ideas, and fresh insights. It teaches us to notice our thought patterns, leaving us open to see new perspectives, new approaches, and new solutions, if those will work better for us.
4. Balance
Many of us often get caught up in our to-do lists, and we’re always on the go. We feel bored or lost without something to do, even if the things we’re doing aren’t good for us. Meditation teaches us to be still, and by setting aside this time to relax and do nothing, we restore balance.
5. Well-being
Relaxation is good for our health, and meditation teaches us to relax and release all of our built up tension and stress. This results in a stronger immune system, lower blood pressure, and overall better health.
6. Patience
Meditation teaches us to wait, instead of expecting instant gratification. We learn to take our time, and to appreciate things as they unfold. Being stuck in traffic or waiting for an appointment becomes a time to practice patience, instead of reaching for our phones
7. Self-control
Meditation teaches us discipline. As we sit quietly, all sorts of thoughts come and go. And we learn to observe them without reacting- just to listen to our voice and what it’s saying. We notice these thoughts, and then decide how to respond consciously and deliberately.
8. Inner Peace
Meditation teaches us to relax. We soon realize that worrying accomplishes nothing except makes us miserable, and we learn to let go of these destructive mental habits, and relax into a state of tranquility and contentment.
9. Self Discovery
There is nothing to distract you from your thoughts when you are sitting there with your eyes closed. There’s nowhere to hide, and paying attention to way the wheels of your mind go around, you really get to know yourself and learn what makes you tick. Most of who we are anyway is buried deep in our subconscious, and meditation lets us see what we are normally too busy to notice.
10. Compassion
The more we get to know ourselves and make peace with our inner demons, the more compassionate we can be towards others. Instead of taking things personally and passing judgement on others, we can get a better understanding to why they do the things they do. Then we are in a position to offer help.
