piranha feeding frenzy

In Brazil, these fisherman find it entertaining to watch piranhas go insane feeding off meat.

From watching popular movies, such as “Piranha,” and the James Bond’s film “You Only Live Twice,” we have seen piranhas portrayed as aggressive, vicious, and deadly predators.

They leave nothing but a blood bath of anything that goes into their water.

Nothing could have prepared us however, for what we were going to witness here: Brazilian fisherman feed these hungry piranhas one small morsel of meat at a time and work their way up to larger pieces.

The piranhas see and smell the delicious meat and go absolutely insane devouring each and every piece.

It’s a feeding frenzy!  Watch the video below to see for yourself:

guitar man kicks cat

It truly aggravates me to see humans being mean to animals. As any pet lover would know, it might even aggravate you more than people being mean to other people.

In the video below, this guitar player, sporting his conspicuous shades, is getting ready to play his song of a lifetime, until he sees his cat sitting in his chair.

The man throws the poor kitty off of the chair, and proceeds to kick him as he walks away.

Now if that isn’t evil, then I don’t know what is.

But wait, the story doesn’t end there. The cat receives his sweet and well deserved revenge, when he walks up the stairs, and POOF karma happens!

You have to watch the video below to see for yourself, but just know that fate and karma do exist.

eagle flies over dubai

In an attempt to set a world record, an animal welfare organization- Freedom Conservation, strapped a miniature camera on an imperial eagle to capture the bird’s flight.

The bird took off from Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which is the world’s largest building standing at an amazing 2,722 feet tall.

The views were breathtaking, and this eagle wound up setting a new world record for the highest bird flight from a man-made building ever.

This pretty cool video also raised awareness for eagle endangerment.

15 Best First Date Ideas

hot air balloon date

When taking a woman out on a date, you don’t want to be like most guys, you want to be THE guy.

While dinner, drinks, or coffee are always suitable options for a first date, it’s nice to step out of the box and do something memorable that will guarantee to score you a second date.

Before planning a date, ask yourself some thought provoking questions to get an idea of what your date might like.  Then, plan accordingly.

Here are 15 Best First Date Ideas:

15. Play tourist

A great first date idea is to be tourists in your own city.  Often, you take your hometown for granted, and never wind up seeing some of the best sights your city has to offer.  Taking your date on a touristy excursion locally allows you to see your city from a different perspective.

14. Live music

If your date is into music, or has a favorite band, don’t think twice about taking them to a live concert. There’s no better way to let loose and enjoy the loud music at the concert. You can also dance together, and take some breaks in the show to chat and get to know each other a little better.

13. Rock Climbing

Rock climbing might be one of the most fun activities for you and your date to try. Enjoy some friendly competition and see who can make it to the top first. This is a great opportunity to guide each other through the potentially scary excercise, and push each other to go even further.

12. Wine tasting

Explore the vineyards on a wine tasting tour. Rent a car or shuttle to bring you to each winery, and set up private tastings so you can drink without worrying about driving. Have great conversations discussing your favorite Cabernet, and even purchase a bottle of your date’s favorite so he/she has a souvenir. If the date goes well, you may just enjoy that bottle together next time.

11. Bowling

Bowling is a great old-school date idea.  It embodies a relaxed environment, that will allow your date to feel comfortable. Bowling alleys are cooler nowadays as well, offering light up lanes, loud music, and great food- appetizers, beers, and cocktails. Whether or not either of you are professional bowlers, you will have a great time trying, and rooting each other on.

10. Aquarium

Aquarium’s aren’t just for grade school field trips, they can be enjoyed as adults, and can break the ice on a first date.  The two of you can enjoy looking at the exotic fish, seeing the sea otter show, and also meeting some penguins.

9. Art Gallery/Museum

This is a great first date for the artsy girl/guy.  Do a little research on the exhibit beforehand to make sure it’s something you guys will be interested in.  Discussing the exhibits together will help you get to know your guy/girl, and you both enjoy some culture together.

8. Ice Skating

Ice skating is always a fun idea!  Even if you aren’t a professional figure skater, you will enjoy holding hands, and keeping each other on your feet.  A warm cup of hot cocoa is a great time to bond, and catch your breathe from laps around the rink.

7. Cooking Class

Have fun in the kitchen!  Cooking together is a great way to work as a team.  There’s so many types of cuisine you can try: French, or Italian probably being the sexiest.  Your date will surely appreciate a creative, hands on, and delicious cooking class.

6. Amusement Park

What better way to get your adrenaline pumping than going on some crazy rides.  Your hearts will be beating, and their might even be some sweaty palms.  Winning your date a prize wouldn’t be a bad idea either, and there’s a great memory to share, and souvenir to take home.

5. Boat Ride

Skip the seafood dinner, and take your date out for an adventurous day at sea.  Rent a sailboat, play captain, and allow your date to be first mate.  Sail to a secluded alcove where you can enjoy the waves, and each other’s company.

4. Driving range

A leisurely game of golf isn’t strenuous, so your date doesn’t need to be athletic to have a good time.  It’s a great opportunity to get up close and personal, practice your swing, and help your date out with hers if she needs it.

3. Fly high

Take a tour around your city in a hot air balloon, or private plane.  Get to see the sights from above, while enjoying a bubbling glass of champagne.  It will truly be a date neither of you will ever forget.

2. Theater

Most people don’t venture to the theater on a night out, because they don’t realize how great a show can be. If your guy or girl is the artsy type, they will certainly love a good musical. Unlike a movie theater, the intermission allows the two of you to have a chance to chat. It’s also a great opportunity to get dressed up, and enjoy a classy night.

1. Try new cuisine

If you are going to take your date to a restaurant, be adventurous and try new cuisine. It’s a great bonding experience when you and your date are tasting new food together (think ethnic) for the first time. There’s a level of excitement there, and maybe the two of you will find a new favorite!

boy receives postcard years after dads death

This adorable 10-year old boy named Rowan Torrez lost his father two years ago to a rare brain disease called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease.

The boy’s mother Julie Van Stone, says that her deceased husband Joseph Torrez went to unbelievable lengths to provide for her and their son.  He served in the Navy and traveled across the country to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned two masters’ degrees.

At 2 years old, Rowan was already receiving postcards from each state that his father had crossed along the way.

Van Stone says that she vaguely remembers her husband saying that he sent 5 or 6 postcards, but they only got 3 or 4 in the mail.

Torrez passed on away on March 13, 2013, and on March 7, 2015, they received a shocking surprise- a postcard from Torrez dated June 10, 2007!

They received it nearly 8 years after his death, and a few days before the two year anniversary of Torrez’s death.

Rowan couldn’t be more grateful to have this last keepsake from his loving father. Watch the touching video below to see what the postcard said.

bride dances with dying father before her wedding

We’ve seen videos like this before, as it is one of the most beautiful things for a bride to have a dance with her father at her wedding. This video is a little different however, because it is not this bride’s wedding day.

Dennis Heston, the bride’s father is sick with lung cancer. Knowing that he probably wouldn’t make it to her actual wedding, which was four months away, the bride held a pre-wedding bash so that her father could be there to dance with her.

Close family joined in, and watched the bride dance with her father to “My Girl,” which was the most perfect and fitting song.

What’s truly amazing about this video is that this man seems so full of life, so positive, and so joyful that he exudes radiance. Not for a second would you think that he was a man about to die of cancer.

A family member commented on the YouTube video and said that “Dennis showed such courage and took a very sad situation and made it a happy memory for his daughter to cherish forever.”

We couldn’t agree more, and while this video may bring tears to your eyes, it is too beautiful not to be seen. Click below to watch this amazing moment and R.I.P. Dennis Heston.

While we’ve unfortunately seen many clips of baggage handlers at the airport being less than careful with passengers’ luggage, this video will make you look at these men in a whole new light.

This video demonstrates something we are not aware of that goes on behind the scenes at airports, in this case at Delta Airlines when a fallen soldiers body arrives home on a plane and needs to be transported to its final destination, the Delta Honor Guard conducts a beautiful ceremony to honor the fallen heroes.

Here the men gather on a tarmac as the bodies of a Fallen Soldier and his beloved K9 arrive home.

I’ve never seen something so beautiful, the way that they honor this man and his dog, and as you will see when you watch the video, the larger casket is the man, and the smaller one is his dog.

Onlookers from inside the airport also watch in amazement.

Please watch and share this video below- it’s beautiful, and a tear jerker.

boys play piano

This isn’t just some piano skit with extremely talented musicians, it’s a comedy piano skit performed by two 20-something-year-old boys known as “Ass-Dur.”

Two men, named Dominik Wagner and Benedikt Zeitner, are professionally trained musicians who have become the leading musical comedy duo in Germany, which on their website they say is easy, because there is only one.

In one of their performances, “Ass-Dur” performs a completely unexpected skit on the piano, one that involves taking their clothes off, and then putting them back on.  All without missing one key on the piano.

You have to see it for yourself, but we are sure that you will be entertained, as these boys actually have some real talent.  They even play Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” on a flute.

Learn Why We Remember Some Things But Forget Others

Do you often feel like your brain is so full of information that you have to toss something out in order to learn something new?

This is common amongst many of us, and new studies are coming out to explain why it is necessary for our brains to discard certain memories.

Think of it like this: In order to make room for a new habit, you must let go of a previous one, right? Our brain operates in this way, when remembering something important makes our brains discard any similar memories that might compete for its attention.

Think of this example of going to the ATM: For the past two years you’ve had the same PIN number for your debit card. You have recently decided to get a new card, with a new PIN number. You’re probably going to type in that old PIN number many times before you remember that you have a new one. The more that old number fades into your memory, the easier it will be for you to remember the new one.

Basically, forgetting is a crucial part of memory- you have to forget certain things in order to remember new things, and that is how the process of discarding takes place.

Researchers have been testing the idea that the brain intentionally wipes away similar memories in favor of preserving the ones it labels important for years, but recently they have been narrowing those studies down to how precisely this happens.

This new study has been done by the University of Birmingham and the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences unit in Cambridge in which patterns of brain activity in participants were monitored by MRI scans, while they were asked to recall individual memories based on images they had been shown earlier.

Over the course of four selective retrievals, the participants in the study were cued to retrieve a target memory, which became more and more vivid with each trial.

Dr. Maria Wimber from the University of Birmingham, explained: “Forgetting is often viewed as a negative thing, but of course, it can be incredibly useful when trying to overcome a negative memory from our past. So there are opportunities for this to be applied in areas to really help people.”

Dr. Anderson, from the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit Cambridge, co-led the study and said that: “People are used to thinking of forgetting as something passive. Our research reveals that people are more engaged than they realize in shaping what they remember of their lives.”

We at LifeDaily have certainly found these new studies interesting, and we hope that in  your life you, “forget the bad stuff, to remember the good.”

tiny house giant journey

Two years ago Guillaume Dutilh and Jenna Spesard decided that they didn’t want to spend another minute chasing careers that they didn’t love. Guillaume was an engineer for a motorcycle manufacturer, and Jenna was an executive assistant for a movie studio.

Although their jobs paid the rent, their passion lied in writing and photography, and they loved the great outdoors.

This couple decided quit their jobs to pursue “travel journalism,” and they began their cross-country adventure, all of which was documented on their blog- Tiny House Giant Journey, and well as their YouTube channel- which have received over 400,000 views.

The tiny-house concept came to fruition, because Dutilh was inspired saying that “in addition to being adorable, they allowed homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint while enabling them to live a higher quality of life.”

They also thought that it would make their journey more feasible, so they sold almost everything they owned and tapped into their savings to get the project started.

Dutilh attended a tiny house workshop in Seattle, and started building. The couple said that they invested over 1,000 work hours to build their dream home, and exactly one year after they began construction, they hit the road.

tiny house giant journeyIn their past five months of traveling, they have visited over 25 states: dipped their toes in the water of the Florida Keys, sailed 180 nautical miles on a ferry from Nova Scotia to Maine, and even braved the chaotic streets of New York City. On their experience in New York, the couple said: “It was as if New Yorkers, when they peeled their eyes off of their phones, were completely unfazed by the sight of our house on wheels in the middle of the skyscrapers.”

The couple generates some income from their YouTube channel, and also from hosting workshops for Tumbleweed Tiny House Company. On their experience overall, the couple has said that “it makes any minor challenge seem futile. “We at LifeDaily agree, that this was one of the coolest things anyone can do. Good luck to Jenna and Guillaume on their adventure!

Autonomous Cars, the Cars of the Future

Google Autonomous Car Prototype

Your car will soon be driving you.

If you haven’t yet heard of autonomous driving, you are about to read all about it, and we are sure you’ll learn a thing or two, as we did . . .

This concept of autonomous driving means that a car is able to fully operate on its own.  Your car will be able to drive itself while you literally sit back and relax.

We are already seeing autonomous cars in production.  The Audi A8 autonomous car should be on the market by the end of 2016.  An autonomous Audi A7 recently drove itself from Paolo Alto to Las Vegas by itself.

These autonomous cars will first go to sale outside of the U.S., but by 2017-2018 we should start seeing the Audi A8 here.

Both Google and Tesla predict that fully-autonomous cars will be available to the public by 2020.  Elon Musk, Tesla Motor’s CEO describes this as “true autonomous driving where you could literally get in the car, go to sleep and wake up at your destination.”

By 2025 these cars will be commonplace, and will monopolize the market by 2030.

What does this mean for our economy?

  • Unprecedented job loss
  • Prevention of tens of thousands of deaths per year in car related accidents
  • Millions of hours will be saved- productivity will increase
  • New industries will be created that we couldn’t possibly even imagine yet
  • The trend of global warming could be reversed
  • We won’t require as my cars

Research predicts that the number of vehicles on the road will be reduced by 99%, which means that we will see a drop from 245 million to just 2.4 million vehicles.

Uber, an application that connects riders to drivers within minutes, could eventually replace every taxi cab in New York City- passengers would wait an average of 36 seconds for a ride that costs about $0.50 per mile.  When there is no one else in the car, the cost of taking an Uber everyone is cheaper.

To imagine that your car will one day be able to drive you to work, then drive itself home, and drive your kids to school is mind-blowing.

I think this is one of those things we will need to see to believe, but the facts are already out-  these autonomous cars are in production.

To say that we’re excited at LifeDaily for our cars to one day drive themselves would be an understatement.  Are you?

8 Things the Most Successful People in the World Do Before Bed

$

telehouse.com

What does your nightly routine look like? Do you stay up into the wee hours surfing the internet, or spending time on Facebook or Instagram, or perhaps on LifeDaily?

While we certainly hope that you are, after doing some research, we have concluded that the most successful people in the world have their own special routines of things that they do before bed.

We want to join this group, so LifeDaily has come up with a list of the top 8 things the most successful people in the world do before bed:

1. Get Your tasks done

You may be exhausted when you get home, but to follow the path of the most successful people, it’s important to complete your tasks.

Maybe it’s a quick phone call, or maybe a little more time consuming, like finishing some paperwork.

Whatever the task may be, avoid telling yourself that you will get it done tomorrow. We all know how that goes: tomorrow comes, and you’re slammed with 10 other tasks that you begin, and you leave the one from yesterday unfinished.

Do yourself a favor, and tie up your loose ends.

2. Read

Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates knows how important reading is. No matter what time he gets home, he reads for an hour before bed. “It’s part of falling asleep,” he says. Mr. Gates reads about topics like healthcare, climate change, and business and politics, and you should read about whatever it is that relaxes you.

Keep in mind that as common as it is for us to read on our phones, iPads, Kindles, and laptops, reading from these tablets and eReaders can be disruptive to our sleep. This is due to the light that is emitted from these devices.

Go old fashioned and read a “real book” or magazine for an optimal night’s sleep.

3. Write down your biggest accomplishments for the day

I know you may be thinking, “what did I really accomplishment today?” I am sure however, that you had some victory or something that you can say your proud of.

As humans, we can be very hard on ourselves, and we put a lot of pressure, when in reality, we are doing just fine.

Maybe you got to work extra early today, or you took initiative on a project when you normally just sit back and wait for others. Maybe you were kind to someone today.

Whatever your “daily win” is, write it down. Give yourself permission to be proud, and tomorrow you will want another win.

Root yourself on!

4. Plan for the next day

The idea of planning might give you stomach pains, but this is something the most successful people in the world know is crucial to success

Start off with tiding up your place, pick out your clothes for tomorrow, and get together any important documents.

Then sit down, and write out your to do list. What are the top tasks you want to accomplish tomorrow? This planning will most likely guarantee that you will be more focused, and more likely to be productive and efficient.

5. Step away from electronics

Yes, I know you are attached to your phone. It goes with you to the bathroom, it’s glued to you in bed, and you probably even sleep with it under your pillow.

However, unless you are texting your boyfriend or girlfriend a quick “I love you,” you really need to get off that thing.

Shutting off our mind before we sleep is not possible, but it is during these times of relative quiet that new ideas may come. This comes when you’re alone with yourself, and you have time to think.

Even Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg turns off her phone at night, and if she can do it, you have no excuse why you can’t.

Well…maybe just put it on silent.

6. Get enough sleep

It’s no fun going into work or school exhausted with your eyes closing. It’s even worse when you are driving tired- which is extremely dangerous by the way.

While the WSJ recommends 7 hrs of sleep per night, use your judgement, and make sure you are getting enough so that your mind, and your body are awake for the next day.

You don’t just want to function, you want to be on top of your game.

7. Meditate

As mentioned in my previous LifeDaily article, meditating for just 10 minutes a day is a great way to relax your body and mind.

There are tons of meditation applications out there. We recommend putting your cellphone on airplane mode so you can practice meditating interruption free.

8. Spend time with family

Decide that the day has ended, and you will go into another phase of the day. If you work until 6 pm, make sure that you get your work done and end your day so you can focus on another part of your life.

Enjoy dinner with your family, spend time with your partner, friends, or anyone else that is important to you.

With these 8 great tips, we hope that you will join us in practicing these nightly routines so that we can all be a step closer to success.

What Happens to Your Facebook When You Die?

Cred: Field Guide Gizmodo

As of February 2015, Facebook has unveiled a new policy that allows users to choose a “legacy contact” to maintain their Facebook when they die.

Facebook writes in its blog post:

Until now, when someone passed away, we offered a basic memorialized account which was viewable, but could not be managed by anyone. By talking to people who have experienced loss, we realized there is more we can do to support those who are grieving and those who want a say in what happens to their account after death.

Facebook spokeswoman Jodi Seth said that coming up with this idea for a legacy contact “took a lot of thought.”

Back in 2007, when a user passed away the account would be frozen.  Everything would be left on the users page as is; It became “memorialized,” and ads were not permitted.  Since then the social network has received “hundreds of thousands” of requests from people who want to manage a profile post-death.

Facebook has created this legacy contact in efforts to better serve the deceased members grieving family and friends.

What is this “legacy contact” allowed to do after you pass?

They will be able to:

  • Write a post to display at the top of your memorialized timeline (where it will also say Remembering..)
  • Update your profile picture and cover photo
  • Respond to new friend requests
  • Download an archive of the photos, posts, and profile info that you shared on Facebook, if you give them those rights

They will not be able to:

  • Log in as you or read your private messages
  • Delete your posts, photos, or anything else posted on your page
  • Delete your account entirely

Only one legacy contact can be selected, and after the Facebook users death, the account cannot be passed on to anyone else.

If you don’t choose a legacy contact, Facebook will instead freeze the account after learning you have passed.  Your account will be viewable, but no edits will be permitted.  According to the WSJ, you can also choose to have your presence deleted entirely.

Facebook spokeswoman Jodi Seth says they are continuing to think about how it might allow for contingent legacy contacts.

According to Elite Daily: If the user doesn’t select a legacy contact but names a digital heir in his or her will, that person becomes the legacy contact. Digital heirs, also known as inactive account managers became available by Google in 2013.  They can access things like a user’s Gmail or cloud storage.

Finally, how do you choose your legacy contact (who must be your Facebook friend) on Facebook?

To choose your legacy contact, open “settings,” at the top right corner (drop down menu on your screen), choose “security”, and you will find “legacy contact” at the bottom of the page.  Then click the legacy contacts abilities.

Additionally, you can choose whether or not to allow Facebook to inform the legacy contact of your selection.

While all of this seems very morbid, and to some maybe unnecessary, to those that have had someone pass and have gone through this issue with wishing they could keep their loved ones memory alive through their digital world on Facebook, it’s nice to now have that option.

Everyone in the U.S. now has this option, and Facebook has plans to expand this policy in to other regions.

What are your thoughts on this?

Is Facebook doing a good job with this policy, enabling the legacy contact to keep the memories of the deceased alive?

10 Things You Never Knew About Bryan Cranston

Photo by Colm O'Molloy for The Boston Globe via Getty Images

Brian Cranston became a household name for his portrayal of Breaking Bad’s Walter White, but his career started long before that famous role.

Here are 10 interesting facts that shed some light on the award winning actor that you might not know.

10. He was once a murder suspect

Cranston and his brother once worked as waiters at a Florida restaurant with an extremely callous chef named Peter Wong. When Wong was found murdered, the Cranston brothers were initially suspects, however, they were on a cross-country motorcycle trip when the murder occurred and were cleared as suspects.

9. He once worked as a carny

On that same cross-country road trip with his brother, the two ran out of cash while in Texas. Cranston picked up any odd jobs including working as a game booth operator at a carnival.

8. His parents were both involved in show business

His mother, Peggy Sell, worked as a radio actress, and his father, Joseph Louise Cranston worked in Hollywood as both an actor and a producer.

7. He got the Breaking Bad logo tattooed on his finger

After finishing filming the final episodes of Breaking Bad, Cranston got the show’s logo tattooed on the inner part of his finger to celebrate and remember the series.

6. He did not always plan on being a professional actor

Cranston graduated with an associate degree in police science from Los Angeles Valley College in 1976. Cranston had previously performed as an actor as a youth, but his parents had mixed feeling about their son being involved with the profession.

5. He learned how to cook real meth

In an interview with Howard Stern, Cranston revealed that DEA agents taught him the real process for cooking meth to prepare for some of his scenes on Breaking Bad. Cranston claims he never got to make a batch despite being taught the steps.

4. He based his portrayal of Walter White on his own father

In an interview with GQ, Cranston claimed to have based part of his portrayal of his character Walter White on his own father. “I actually thought of my father, how he stands hunched, burdened,” Cranston said.

3. He has worked under the pseudonym ‘Lee Stone’

In the 1990’s, Cranston worked as a voice actor for English dubbing of Japanese anime such as Street Fighter II, Macross Plus, and Royal Space Force under the name Lee Stone.

2. He almost didn’t get the part of Walter White

Originally, the role for Breaking Bad’s Walter White had been offered to both John Cusack and Matthew Broderick, however, both turned down the offer. The show’s executives were still skeptical about casting Cranston because of his background in comedy with Malcom in the Middle, but changed their minds after Vince Gilligan showed them an episode of the X-Files in which Cranston had a guest role.

1. The Blue Power Ranger was named after him

Cranston worked as a voice actor for several monsters on the show earlier in his career. The creative team decided to name the Blue Power Ranger, “Billy Cranston,” in honor of the actor.

The debate on how often we should wash our hair seems to be an ongoing one. While the answer is different for everyone, there are ways that you can judge for yourself how many times a week is right for you.

First let’s state the facts: Washing hair too often can do more harm than good. According to dermatologist Lynne Goldberg: “It’s paradoxical, but people who wash their hair a lot to get rid of oil are drying out their scalp and producing more oil.”

Hair becomes greasy for the same reason that skin becomes oily: sebum production. Our sebaceous glands produce sebum to protect our skin and prevent it from drying out. Just the right amount can provide a nice sheen to the hair, a little too much can make it look greasy, and not enough can make it look dry.

The thing about sebum is, every one of us produces a different amount. It comes down to our genetics and hormones: when our hormones are spiking, in the years of puberty for example, hair is extra greasy and skin is extra oily (cue in acne).

How often you should wash your hair depends on three important things: hair texture, your scalp and styling.

Hair texture

According to the experts at Columbia, if your hair is coarse or curly, you may only need to shampoo once a week. If your hair is fine, or straight, you probably need to shampoo twice a week or more. This is because it is easier for oils produced by the scalp to migrate down a straight and fine strand of hair. Buildup here happens sooner, as opposed to coarse or curly hair, in which buildup happens slower.

Your scalp

If your scalp is normal to dry, you only need to wash your hair about once or twice a week. If your scalp is oily, you will probably need to wash your hair more than two times a week.

Styling

You must consider how you style your hair and how your treat it. Ever wonder why your hair tends to get oily the more you play with it, brush it, and run your fingers through it? This is because you are dragging the natural oils from your scalp down the rest of your hair.

Consider also the way you treat your hair. If it’s color treated, or processed, it’s most likely drier, therefore you should wash it less often.

Remember it’s best to wash your hair at least as you possibly can, because washing it only causes your scalp to produce more oil.

9 Tips For Making A Great First Impression

man in suit

We’ve all heard it before: “A first impression is a lasting impression.” This statement holds very true, and should make us think about how we prepare before meeting with someone new.

Knowing that it takes 6 seconds for someone to form a first impression doesn’t give us much time to put our best foot forward.  LifeDaily has compiled 9 Tips For Making A Great First Impression in either an interview or business setting:

1. Do your research

Whether you’re going on an interview, or meeting with a new client, you want to do a little research on the person before arriving so you know what you’re getting into. There’s numerous ways to do this: through Linkedin, or any social media platform, where you can get a decent understanding of who you are meeting with. Don’t go crazy and stalk the person, but grab enough information so you can come up with proper topics to discuss. Maybe jot down their achievements and interests.

2. Prepare

In addition to doing your research on the person, prepare yourself for the meeting. If it’s an interview, have all the interview questions that they may ask down-pat, and know about the company. If it’s a meeting with a client, have all of your paperwork ready beforehand. There’s nothing worse than meeting with someone for the first time when you’re ill-prepared.

3. Dress for success

You have to look the part. Whatever the job may be that you are applying for, or whatever business meeting you have, always dress your best. Use your judgement to wear what’s appropriate for the occasion, and when in doubt, remember to: “dress for the job you want, not the job you have.”

4. Smile

This may be the simplest tip on the list, but just smile! Relax your face, and let your confidence shine through in your smile. You are a professional, and you are prepared for anything, but remember to smile, because in those 6 seconds, it is all anyone sees.

5. Have a good handshake

Whether you are a man or a woman, it’s important to have a good firm handshake. It’s the worst when you go to shake someone’s hand, and they have a flimsy lifeless handshake. People actually form opinions based on the quality of your handshake, so make sure it’s firm and assertive.

6. Arrive early

Arriving early shows that you’re responsible and respectful of the other person’s time. Being late is a huge deal breaker for many people, so if you are normally tardy, you will want to change that in order to make a great first impression. Like the old saying goes: “to be early is to be on time; to be on time is to be late; to be late is to be sorry.” Leave enough time for traffic, parking, and inclement weather.

7. Turn off distractions

The most annoying thing to happen in an important meeting or interview, is to have your phone go off. It is extremely distracting when this happens, so you want to make sure your phone is either on silent, or turned off before the meeting begins. Sometimes for business, it is necessary for you to be on your phone, however, you also must honor the persons time who is in front of your face.

8. Listen more than you speak

Way too often people spend more time speaking then they do listening. You will notice that when you listen more, you learn more. While in an interview, you will be asked a lot of questions, so listen carefully to them. It is always helpful to keep a pen and paper in a meeting or interview to jot down any information that you feel is valuable. You never know when this information will come in handy.

9. Give a proper farewell

If you are saying goodbye in an interview, find out when you will follow-up. If it is a business meeting, find out what the next step is, and when it will be taken. Too often, we just leave a meeting with no clear understanding of what the next step is- so try and make it as clear as possible. Also do not forget the minor but important details like exchanging business cards and contact information.

I hope these 9 Tips For Making A Great First Impression have been helpful because leaving a great first impression is easier than you think. Follow these tips to ensure your success!

The Science Behind Why Marijuana Gives Us The Munchies

Harold and Kumar go to White Castle

Anyone who has smoked pot before, will know that doing so gives you extreme munchies.

As shown in the picture above from the movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, those burgers, fries and milkshakes suddenly smell better and taste better after you’ve had some pot in your system. You’ll then also desire some cookies, candies, ice-cream and cereal for dessert.

This extreme hunger is due to marijuana’s active ingredient- tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which stimulates our appetite. In studies found in mice, this THC fits into the receptors in their brain’s olfactory bulb, which significantly increases their ability to smell food, leading them to eat more of it.

Recently a new study has come out in Nature, explaining marijuana’s neurological effects, helping us to understand why this drug makes us so hungry.

It explains that our hunger is controlled by a group of brain cells known as pro-opiomelanocortin, or POMC neurons, which are located in the hypothalamus region of our brain. This region is responsible for giving us our desire to eat, our feelings of alertness, and also our sexual arousal.

Normally, our POMC neurons help suppress our desire to eat, because without them we would continue eating, and become extremely fat.

However, in this study, in which mice were given chemical compounds called cannabinoids, which are found in marijuana, the THC turned out to flip a switch in the mouse’s hypothalamus part of their brains, so even if they were full, neurons started telling their hypothalamus that they were hungry.

Tamas Horvath, from the Yale University School of Medicine said about the study: “We were surprised to find that the neurons we thought were responsible for shutting down eating, were suddenly being activated and promoting hunger, even when you are full. It fools the brain’s central feeding system.”

Horvath continued to say that “it’s like pressing a car’s brakes and accelerating instead.”

While we will need further studies done on humans to verify this evidence found in mice, this information certainly helps us to understand why we feel that extreme urge of hunger come over us after smoking marijuana.

An interesting bit of information to add is that in 2006, Sanofi-Adventis rolled out an anti-munchie drug called Rimonabant in Europe, but they had to pull the drug off the market within a few years after people were reporting side effects like anxiety, depression, and overall bad vibes.

Kenneth Mackie, a biologist from Indiana University (who was not part of this study published in Nature) said: “If POMC shows there’s another way to change neuron activity, it may give them another way to manipulate receptors for weight loss.”

We certainly hope that in future there’s a way to reverse weed giving us an extreme desire to eat. Until then, we hope you enjoyed this article, and please be sure to share it with your friends, and leave your comments below.

After this brutal winter, you may not want to hear anything about snow for a long time, but this British artist is creating astonishing works of snow art with a pair of snowshoes, a compass, a map, and a bit of fresh snow.

Simon Beck, 56, has been creating these snow patterns for the past decade. Each image takes up to 11 hours and requires him to travel up to 25 miles as he creates the pattern. Beck studied engineering at Oxford University, and has worked as a freelance orienteering mapmaker for most of his life.

Take a look at this incredible video of Beck creating his first drawings in North America at the Banff National Park.
