Small children need constant supervision to stay out of trouble, which is why so many moms and dads love naptime since it gives them a small break from kid duty to get some chores done or even relax a little.
After putting her three-year-old daughter down for a nap, mom Amber Boone walked downstairs and was enjoying the peace and quiet. Minutes later, however, that peace was abruptly disturbed when she heard someone loudly pounding on the door.
“I started to get a little frustrated,” Boone said. “I was like ‘who is banging on my door that hard?’ but by the time I even got half way there … she stormed in and she said, ‘I think your daughter fell, I think she fell.’”
Boone ran outside and found her daughter lying on the driveway pavement on top of the window screen, and made sure her daughter didn’t fall asleep or try to move while waiting for the ambulance.
The three-year-old named Aubrey was rushed to the hospital after falling from the second-story window, and doctors revealed she had fractured her skull and had sustained other serious injuries.
While mom couldn’t believe what happened to her daughter, doctors explained how frequent window injuries actually are as nearly eight children under the age of five die each year from falling out of a window, and more than 3,000 are injured in window falls.
“Windows are dangerous, them and plugs should be the number one thing that is on all baby registries,” Boone said as she warned other parents to make sure windows are properly locked and baby proofed.
