Every now and then, we all make the mistake of regretting our wardrobe choices.
However, whether you’re wearing a t-shirt and flip-flops at a formal event or you’re the only person without a costume at a Halloween party, there is never an excuse for someone to shame you for your mistake.
This is especially true for young women, who can be so impressionable and sensitive, but have every right to take risks and express themselves through fashion. Sadly, we’re hearing more and more stories about girls and teens getting in trouble for breaking their school’s ridiculous dress codes.
South Carolina mom of three girls Suzie Webster was surprised when she got a phone call about her sixth-grade daughter’s “inappropriate outfit” at Moultrie Middle School, but when she arrived and saw the skirt she bought her, she couldn’t understand what was wrong with it… or why a teacher would publically shame her little girl.
“I found out that Reese was called out in the hallway surrounded by other kids and told to go to the office because her skirt was too short and needed to be replaced,” Webster said in a rant she was hesitant to write on Facebook.”Also, the teacher told her she looked like she should “be clubbing”.”
“I told the Principal during my rant, that I felt that it was madly inappropriate for my daughter to be humiliated in front of other students and if there was concern about her meeting the dress code there was a more tactful way vs. a public shaming.”
What happened next is something every parent should know about, as this is happening way too often in schools around the country.
