School Crossing Guard Saves 8-Year-Old From Attempted Abduction

An elementary school crossing guard sees so many adults drive to and from school to pick up and drop off their kids, it can be hard to keep track of who’s who.

Yet, when one little girl passed by Adrian Young on a recent shift at Alexandria Avenue Elementary School in East Hollywood, she knew something was very wrong. The quick-thinking crossing guard’s maternal instincts immediately kicked in when an 8-year-old girl made a scene after school.

“The little girl just started screaming, she was like, ‘Please, don’t let her take me, I don’t know her, she’s not my mom,'” Young told ABC News. “I just told her to grab onto me as tight as she could, and I held onto her and the lady just began to attack me, so I just thought about attacking her to make sure she can’t take this little girl.”

Although Young stands just 4-foot-8-inches tall, the crossing guard was able to fight off the attempted abductor.

“I kind of went into mother mode at the time, and as a crossing guard, because I couldn’t see myself letting this little girl be taken,” Young said.

The little girl’s mom Sharon Arellano said she was grateful for the hero, she feels more can be done. “To me, I didn’t feel that they did what they needed to do to keep my child safe, and apparently they seemed like they didn’t care because, thankfully, someone helped her,” Arellano said.

The little girl and Young soon identified 50-year-old Maria Ramirez as the kidnapper and she was arrested by the LAPD, where she remains on $100,000 bail.
