Sometimes, we get by with just a little help from out friends.

Take, for example, the blind poodle who gets by with a little help from her sister who acts as her seeing-eye dog.

Margaux, the dog, is a 12-year-old poodle with an attitude that’s better than an optimist on happy pills. Her parents, Scott and Laura Jordan, had to have the dog’s eyes removed. Shortly after that surgery, they found she had also lost her hearing, dramatically decreasing her quality of life, though you’d never know based on the smile spanning Margaux’s face.

The Jordan’s thought putting down the beloved dog might be the best thing to do, but they couldn’t bring themselves to it when the saw how happy the dog still continued to be.

“We didn’t know what to do at first. She’s 12 and has had a great life,” Scott writes on Facebook. “But my wife and I decided she deserved a chance to continue on so long as she had some quality of life, which we decided was possible. We realized this would take a lot of work.”

Fortunately, Margaux has three sisters Chloe, Susie, and Rhonda, who act as her seeing and hearing companions. The Jordan’s take Margaux on guided hikes and use the other dogs to help her navigate.

“It’s been an amazing journey watching her adapt to her new world, and better – start thriving in it,” the Jordans say in an email to PEOPLE. “We started a Facebook group to tell her story and have been amazed to see just how many peoples’ lives Margaux’s story has affected.”
