While most fourth graders are practicing their swing for little league, this Indiana 10-year-old just signed a major league contract with the Yankees this past Monday.

Landis Sims was born without hands or half his legs, but despite all the challenges he and his family has had to overcome because of his disability, his positive attitude has allowed him to do more than anyone could have ever imagined. “The first day was pretty devastating,” Amanda, said about the day they first learned of Landis’ disabilities. “Then God started working and it has just been an amazing ride since then.”

When Landis was just 2 years old, he was given a ball and a bat, and has been a baseball fanatic ever since. Today, the Elizabeth, Indiana fourth grader is able to play through the help of prosthetics and a soccer shin guard to keep his glove in place.

Landis was originally supposed to watch a batting practice with the Yankees, but after manager Joe Girardi met the boy, he was so moved by his positivity that they offered him a one-day official contract with the team. “People can overcome extraordinary circumstances,” Girardi said. “It’s amazing what the mind can do.”

After signing the deal, Landis got to take part in batting practice with Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, and other players and even got to show off his own batting skills in front of the team. “We’re giving each other hitting lessons, trying to help each other out,” Rodriguez said.

10-Year-Old Born Without Hands Or Legs Signs A Contract To Play On The Yankees is an article from: LifeDaily

Every soldier who has been deployed for a long period of time knows well that although coming home is a joyous time, it can often be a big life adjustment.

We’ve shared many stories about how having a canine companion can mean the difference between life or death for our brave men and women of the military. However, the following story shows just how important their furry best friends can be when they return home again, too.

For the past three years, the New York Post reports that U.S. Army veteran Julio Muñoz has been searching for the German Shepherd who fought alongside him in Afghanistan.

Instead of offering the dog, Ben, to Muñoz, who lives in the Bronx, NY, The Post wrote that K2 Solutions and Pentagon employees gave him to Kim Scarborough.

Yet when Scarborough found Muñoz’ name on Ben’s papers, she knew the dog should be reunited with his rightful owner. “If the handler wants Ben, it belongs to him. Period, the end,” she told The Post.

Although Munoz was afraid the dog wouldn’t remember him, he was prepared to let Ben choose who he wanted to stay with. “I wouldn’t want to ruin that for him. He’s already been through so much,” Muñoz said.

However, even though the soldier saw how happy his dog was with his new owner, once Scarborough saw how Ben was with Muñoz and his family, it was clear to her that the dog’s other family needed him more than she did.

With tears in his eyes, the Army veteran then said, “He’s done so much, been through so many things. I don’t want to take him home,” he said, before looking at the dog, who gave him a sorrowful look.

“Come on. I’ll take you home.”

Veteran Finally Reunites With The Military Dog He Fought With After 3 Years is an article from: LifeDaily

In China, approximately 200,000 boys and girls are kidnapped every year and sold openly online. 

As sick and twisted as it is, one young couple thought it was ‘ok’ to sell their 18-day-old daughter online because they were finding her a financial burden. 

The father, ‘A Duan’ and mother, ‘Xiao Mei’ (not their real names) claim they were 19 when they conceived the baby and they went through with the unwanted pregnancy. They are from Tong’an, Fujian province, South Eastern China, and being short on money, the father decided to sell their baby girl, Lil Jie, to unnamed buyer online. 

The transaction resulted in A Duan receiving 23,000 Yuan ($3,520) for the baby, and he used the money to purchase an iPhone and motorbike. 

The mother, Xiao Mei worked temporary jobs and was below the age of consent when the child was conceived, and A Duan, had not completed high school and spent most of his time in Internet cafes. Once A Duan discovered he could sell the baby, he elected to do so without the mother’s consent. He found a buyer on QQ, a popular social media site, and the buyer purchased the baby for his sister. Soon after the child was sold, Xiao Mei fled the city and was eventually tracked down by police and arrested.

She says, “I myself was adopted, and many people in my hometown send their kids to other people to raise them. I really didn’t know that it was illegal.”

Due to A Duan turning himself in, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison, and Xiao Mei was given a suspended sentence of two and a half years. The buyer also wound up turning himself in, and because the parents are in no position to raise the child, the buyer’s sister still has the baby.

Chinese Couple Sold Their Newborn Online To Purchase An iPhone is an article from: LifeDaily

Terry and Jeannie are two chimpanzees who live at Save the Chimps, a sanctuary in Florida. 

The organization rescues chimps from the entertainment and research industries and gives them a second chance at life. Nearly all the apes at the sanctuary live in family groups, so Terry and Jeannie never got a chance to meet until recently. 

As the video below will show, as soon as they met, the chimps reached out to grab each other’s hand, and continued holding hands and playing with each other’s fingers in a minute-long clip!

This beautiful encounter is really special for the chimps, who were devoid of family and friends and the social interactions for many years.

Terry lived with an Ice Capades trainer before moving to the now-defunct Las Vegas Zoo, and for the next 18-years he lived all alone at the facility. And Jeannie’s past is not too much better. According to The Dodo, she was born in the wild and then captured and sold to a research laboratory, where she spent 40 years undergoing medical testing before coming to the sanctuary.

But now that the two have found a friend in each other, they can live the rest of their lives in pure happiness, and never have be alone ever again.

Chimps Who Lived Alone For Decades Finally Find Comfort In Each Other is an article from: LifeDaily

Most kids dream of becoming a hero when they grow up, and for 6-year-old Mason Rudder, that dream was no different.

Mason has always dreamt of becoming a Navy SEAL and saving the country, yet in his short years, he’s already had to undergo 10 surgeries for a rare genetic neuromuscular condition that affects his bones and joints, and will make becoming a Navy SEAL a little more difficult.

To celebrate his sixth birthday and make his biggest dream come true, mom Suzanne Rudder reached out to Asymmetric Solutions, which provides combat training from skilled veterans who served with Army Special Forces, NavySEALs, Army Delta, SEAL 6, and Agency SOF.

With the help of retired Navy SEAL Jared Ogden, Mason spent the day practicing demolition and sniper training.

During lunch, Mason led a group of four SEALs on a mission where he got to show off his new training and get the bad guy.

6-Year-Old With Rare Disorder Fulfills His Dream Of Becoming A Navy SEAL is an article from: LifeDaily

Each year, approximately 7.6 million animals enter animal shelters across the country, and of those animals, only 2.7 million are actually adopted. To help save some of these ‘unadoptable’ animals, one Colorado man has taken it upon himself to save as many of these animals as possible and give them a happy and loving family.

Steve Greig, a Colorado-based accountant, grew up in an animal loving family, and that passion has persisted. When he was old enough to have his own place, Greig always had three or four dogs, yet when one died, he came up with a brilliant way to make the best of his loss.

“I was just so distraught about [that death]. A month or two went by and I still felt so horrible about it,” Greig said. “I decided that the only way I would feel better was if something good happened that probably wouldn’t have happened if he had not died.”

After that one pet’s death, Greig went to his local animal shelter to find the least adoptable dog they had, and give him an amazing life.”So [I adopted] a 12-year-old Chihuahua named Eeyore with a heart murmur and four bad knees and I brought him home and that was just the beginning of all the animals,” Greig said.

Since that first visit to the shelter, Greig has opened his heart and his home to 10 dogs, a pig named Bikini, a few cats, two pigeons, two ducks, two chickens, a rabbit, and a pond of koi fish.

Aside from his job, Greig’s life revolves around caring and loving for these mostly senior animals who wouldn’t have gotten another chance at finding a forever home because of their old age. “A normal day for me is getting up at 5 a.m,” he explained. “In the morning and making breakfast for all of them, which, you know, there’s 10 [dogs] and most of them have different diets.”

“Bikini’s laying in the yard and the dogs are all laying around the yard. They just make it feel like home,” Greig said as he spent the afternoon outside with his animals. “It’s just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile.”

Incredible Man Adopts Elderly And Sick Animals That Nobody Wanted is an article from: LifeDaily

A dog owner shared a heartfelt tribute to his dog Benny who recently passed away, and it’s quickly going viral.

Benny was just shy of his 9th birthday, when he became seriously ill. His owner, John Pointer was faced with the gut-wrenching decision to let Benny go on living in pain, or let him go with an injection that will put an end to his suffering. After careful thought, John chose the latter, and he captured the pain of his experiences in a post on Facebook written from Benny’s point of view. It illustrates how difficult the decision was for him, and how Benny must have felt in the time leading up to his death. 

Pointer writes on his website that he wrote this story to process his grief, and it has already been read by millions of people.

“I hope it helps people cope with their own grief. That was Benny’s true purpose, to share his love, and make people feel connected, and worthy of enthusiastic support, even if they didn’t believe it themselves. And in that way, as long as his story keeps touching people, he will never truly die. I am so thankful for that, grateful for the time we had here together, and I really appreciate your visit, too. Benny, I love you so much. And I miss you equally,” Pointer says.

Today is International Women’s Day 2016…How will YOU mark the day?

That’s the question posed by the International Women’s Day official website, which is promoting their #PledgeForParity in 2016 campaign. Gender parity is defined as “Ratio of girls to boys (gender parity index) in primary, secondary and tertiary education is the ratio of the number of female students enrolled at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education to the number of male students in each level,” according to the United Nations Statistics division. And although you may not see a disparity in your own neighborhood or everyday life, many countries around the world may be struggling with this type of inequality for decades longer.

To help celebrate this very special day and to draw attention for this very important campaign, Google released their own campaign featuring the hashtag #OneDayIWill to help women around the world share their hopes and dreams on changing their own lives and the world.

In the following video, we see inspirational female heroes like 18-year-old women’s rights and education hero, and Nobel Prize winner Malal Yousafzai and Muzoon Almellehan of Syria, who is fighting to convince parents to keep their daughters in school instead of selling them as child brides share their aspirations. Instead of pulling over the ladies below to give them tickets, cops handed over flowers in a gesture that can only be described as classy and charming. However, that wasn’t going to stop the internet from seeing the other side to the male cops’ showing their appreciation. Many commenters found the act to be sexist and condemned the tradition.

“Maybe they should recruit women in the Lithuanian police…that’s what this day is about…just sayin'” one commenter wrote, before someone responded saying that there actually are large number of policewomen in Lithuania compared to other countries.

Either way, it’s hard to deny that the ladies below look anything less than thrilled by their sweet surprise!

A man in southeastern China noticed an elderly woman struggling to cross a busy intersection, so he did the only thing he could think of before the lights changed. 

He gently lifted the woman up and carried her across the street the safety. Talk about a true gentleman! 

While both the man and woman are unidentified, someone in a passing car filmed the encounter, and the footage went viral on People’s Daily, China, Facebook page. The video shows the man reaching out to ask the woman if she’s ok in Longyan, Fujian province, China. After swooping her up in his arms and carrying her to the sidewalk, he sets her down safely and waits with her until she’s regained her balance. 

She still has another street to cross, as the clip cuts out, but seeing what a gentleman this man is, he probably helped her cross that street too. 

People are describing that this young man’s selfless act restored their faith in humanity, which has been somewhat shaken. Others say, “God, bless that young man for helping the elderly lady across the street who could not make it no her own,” one wrote. “Amen there are people who care and this young man has a heart,” another said.

While it is unknown whether these two are related or strangers, it doesn’t change the fact that this is a very nice young man.

Young Man Helps Little Old Lady Cross A Busy Street is an article from: LifeDaily

As adults, we learn to love and appreciate the things that make us unique, but as children, those very differences are the things that other kids tease and make fun of. When an accident last August caused Zalend to have an amputation, he was understandably self-conscious, and tried as hard as possible to hide his injury from his peers.

After the accident, which injured his index finger as well as his thumb, doctors worked for hours to try and save them. Ultimately, they were only able to save most of his thumb, but Zalend lost his index finger. At the time, his parents had no health insurance, which has left them with $150,000 in medical bills, but what was worse for them was seeing how self-conscious the injury made their 9-year-old.

To remind Zalend that he’s not the only one with an amputation, Lt. Rackow and Officer Edwards from the Midland Police Department met with Zalend to let him know that he’s not alone and “despite any obstacle, you can achieve anything you put your mind to.”

The Midland Police Department posted a picture of their meeting to Facebook, and wrote these encouraging words for Zalend: “Hey Midland, meet 9-year-old Zalend! It took a lot of courage for him to take this picture. Zalend recently lost part of his index finger in an accident and has been afraid to show others his injury. Lt. Rackow and Officer Edwards met with Zalend to show him that he’s not alone, and to let him know despite any obstacle, you can achieve anything you put your mind to. We are proud to call you our friend, Z. Let’s hear it for Zalend! #CourageousZalend”

After the meeting, Zalend found courage in other people’s stories of living with an amputation. “He has a lot of support and I’m glad that there is support out there for everyone else, it’s encouraging, it’s real encouraging.” mom Nichole said.

When Eric Vekeman, a German man with a clever mind, was refused a permit to build a garage, he went ahead and built one anyway. Mind you, the refusal come from his city council, who denied his request in order to preserve the city scape.

What they failed to realize was that Eric was too clever to let the council overrule what he damn well pleased to do.

Therefore, Eric set out building his own inconspicuous garage that looks like an ordinary storefront, until you investigate more closely:

When The City Refused This Man’s Garage Permit, He Found A Genius Way Around The Problem is an article from: LifeDaily

No one expects any praise or recognition when they do a small good deed, but when a customer spotted a Starbucks employee go out of her way to help a homeless man, she knew she had to share the inspiring moment

While visiting her local Starbucks in Greenfield, Indiana, Janet Feeney was pulling through the drive thru when she was stopped in her tracks as she watched an employee carry out some food and a drink to a homeless man who had been sitting outside of the shop for two days.

According to Feeney, the homeless man had shown up outside the Starbucks on March 5, and ever since, employee Alissa Dexter had been going out of her way to make sure he had something to eat and drink.

Feeney felt she had to share the inspiring moment on Facebook, which has already been shared more than 3,500 times.

“This Starbucks employee, her name is Alissa Dexter (found out her name after this post went viral) she went out of her way and took this man food. I just so happen to be in the drive thru and I snapped this picture,” she wrote. “Thank You Starbucks Greenfield, Indiana for not looking over a need and taking action. We need more people and businesses like you.

Tommy Sonnen is a multi-generational cattle rancher from Angleton, Texas, whose world was turned upside down after he married Renee King more than six years ago. Renee moved in with Tommy on the Sonnen Ranch, a 96-acre area deep in the heart of The Lone Star State, and quickly broke her husband’s golden rule of not naming or befriending the farm animals.

As you can see in the story below from CBS’ On The Road with Steve Hartman, the newlyweds soon faced marital struggles when Renee couldn’t bare to see the animals rounded up for constant slaughter. “I couldn’t take the red trailer taking the babies off anymore – As a result I started watching documentaries and slaughterhouse videos and when I made the corner, I’ve never looked back. Forever Vegan!” Renee wrote online.

“This experience has transformed our lives completely.  Spiritually, I will never be the same – my destiny and calling has found me.  At the end of my rope, when nothing but divorce and 30 slaughtered cows looked like the only way, a dream was born that was bigger than anything I could have ever dreamed up on my own.”

Cattle Rancher’s Wife Turns Vegan, Transforms Her Farm Into An Animal Sanctuary is an article from: LifeDaily

An extremely rare case of twins being born with two different fathers have been reported this week in Vietnam. 

The twins were recently taken for testing because of very strong differences in the children’s appearances. 

“Our Centre for Genetic Analysis and Technology lab has tested and found a pair of bi-paternal twins,” Le Dinh Luong, president of the Genetic Association of Vietnam, said. “This is rare not only for Vietnam, but for the world,” he said, explaining that the two children had different fathers but the same mother. 

A rare case like this can happen if two eggs from the same mother are fertilized by sperm from two different men during separate acts of sexual intercourse but within the same ovulation period. 

According to Tuoi Tre newspaper, the husband requested genetic testing at the Hanoi lab to determine whether he was the biological father of both his wife’s twins. His relatives were reportedly pressuring him to take the test because one of the babies looked much different from him and the other child. 

He also wanted to rule out of hospital mix-up. 

According to the Dan Tri news site, the twins were born on the same day, but a few hours apart, and they are the same sex. Now two years old, one twin has thick, wavy hair, and the other has thin, straight hair. 

Le Dinh Luong told the BBC’s Nga Pham,

“There are only less than 10 known cases of twins with different fathers in the world. There might be other cases but the parents and/or the twins were not aware of it or didn’t want to announce it.”

Bi-Paternal Twins: Woman Gives Birth To Twins With Two Different Fathers is an article from: LifeDaily

In 2011, Joao Pereira de Souza, a 71-year-old man from Brazil found an injured penguin soaked in oil laying on a Brazilian beach.  

Joao says that the penguin was struggling to survive so he cleaned him off, and fed him sardines before bringing him back to the water. 

The man expected the penguin to swim off, but amazingly, he refused to leave his side.

And so their friendship began and has surprisingly lasted all of these years. 

In February, Jingling the Magellanic penguin leaves for the cooler climates 2,000 miles away, but he always returns to Joao’s seaside shanty come June. 

For four years, the two unlikely friends spend 8 months out of the year together, and they stroll along the beach and swim in the ocean. 

Locals say that the penguin is like a son to Joao.

Magellanic penguins are classified as a “threatened species,” primarily because they are so vulnerable to oil spills. These spills kill approximately 20,000 adults and 22,000 juvenile penguins each year. 

We are thankful that Joao was able to save at least one of these penguins, and we hope they continue to have a beautiful friendship.

Penguin Refuses To Leave Behind The Man Who Saved Him is an article from: LifeDaily

Most people don’t think twice about what they are doing when they get dressed in the morning, but for anyone with a disability, dressing yourself can be an almost impossible task with all of the tiny buttons, zippers, and ties.

When Mindy Scheier gave birth to her son Oliver, they found out he had a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy and as he got older, it quickly became clear that normal clothes were too difficult for him to put on without help.

When Oliver came home one day asking Scheier if he could wear jeans to school like the other kids, she knew there wouldn’t be enough room for his leg braces, but never wanted her son to feel different.

“I was faced with a difficult decision, do I let my son walk safely into school in sweatpants and his braces on — no jeans,” Scheier said. “Or do I let him walk into school in jeans but without braces, which is unsafe but would allow him to hold his head up high because he looks like the other kids do? It was at that moment that I decided that no mother should have to make that difficult decision for their child.”

Scheier, who had a background in fashion, got to work in starting Runway of Dreams where she could make stylish, normal clothing with undetectable modifications so that anyone with a disability could easily dress themselves, or a caretaker could dress them faster.

Scheier’s clothes give kids and adults independence in being able to choose the kinds of clothes they want to wear, and allow many to dress themselves for the first time in their lives.

The clothing line was instantly a hit, and so far, Tommy Hilfiger has picked up Scheier’s designs so people everywhere could have access to her life-changing clothing.
