Mom Defends Herself After Admitting To Putting Kids To Bed In Next Day’s Clothes

Any parent with multiple kids knows how vital multitasking is, and how sometimes, cutting corners is the only way to get everything done, which is why one mom was shocked when she received backlash after they found out how she sometimes puts her kids to bed.

Former Australian actress Madeleine West used to spend her days on a TV set, but now she’s a mother of six kids all under the age of eight, and spends her days preparing meals, wiping tears, taking care of to-do lists. Even with her 5 AM wake up time, however, West still struggles to get everything done in the day and admitted to cutting corners when necessary.

Some nights, West admitted on a social media page to putting her kids to sleep in their clothes for the next day to save precious time in the morning yet people were quick to criticize her parenting.

“Social media forums for me are sort of like the village that we had in the olden days,” West, who just published a parenting book, explained. It takes a village to bring up a child. People go there for support and advice. And if we’re tearing each other down on social media, then people who really do need help and a shoulder to cry on aren’t going to reach out for fear of being judged.”

Mom Leaves Concerned Note For ‘Mean Teens’ At Starbucks

Michelle Icard cover

Michelle Icard, an author and parenting expert, works from home and starts every morning at her neighborhood Starbucks.

But on Monday, the mother of two could not enjoy her tea because of a conversation she was overhearing by a group of girls at the table next to her because she was distracted by a conversation she was overhearing by a group of girls at the next table.

“They were so loud and I was crawling out of my skin – I was so physically bothered by what they were saying,” Icard tells PEOPLE of the group of girls at the coffee shop. “I kept thinking, ‘This is going to stop, one of them will say something to redeem themselves,’ but it never  happened.”

The three teens were trashing another girl they knew, and speaking about gifts they received that were tacky.

Icard was so upset that she left Starbucks and posted about it on her Facebook page. A friend of hers commented and suggested Icard go back and order the girls another round and leave a note expressing her concern. So Icard did and wrote a note to the girls expressing the importance of being beautiful both inside and out.

The note read:

Credit: Michelle Icard via PEOPLE.com

“Hi Girls! I sat near you today in Starbucks and listened as you talked. You three are obviously pretty and hard-working. I wish your kindness matched your pretty exteriors. I heard you talk about a girl who sang a song about being lonely in the talent show – and you laughed. About a girl who couldn’t be lead singer because you got all the votes, about crappy presents other people have given you … and you sounded so mean and petty. You are smart and you are pretty. It would take nothing from you to also be kind. – M.”

Icard ordered the girls another round, and dropped the note on their table, leaving before they can see anything she’d written.

Icard told PEOPLE,

“I think that girls who are really pretty in high school can use that as a way of hiding bad behavior, it’s almost like they feel like they have the pretty card so they can get away with it. I wanted to speak their language, but also to show them that you have a lot of power with that prettiness and you can hide behind it or you can be kind and it won’t take anything away from you.”

6-Year-Old Finds Crystal Meth Inside Kinder Chocolate Egg

While parents know their kids need plenty of fruits and vegetables to grow up healthy and strong, they also know a sweet treat every once in a while isn’t going to do any harm, which is what one Northern Ireland dad thought when his son got his hands on a Kinder Surprise egg.

The six-year-old Irish boy had found the wrapped chocolate egg under a bush and was just as excited to eat the chocolate as he was to find out what the surprise toy was waiting inside. The little boy had been playing outside with his older brother when he unwrapped the candy, but instead of a toy, he found a mysterious bag full of white powder.

The two couldn’t figure out what it was, but decided to tell dad about what they found. He instantly went to the police with what his boys had found, and they determined the powder to be methamphetamine.

“I don’t want members of the local community to find drugs on their street, however, this incident just reminds us that criminals have no regard whatsoever for the safety of local residents, and I am thankful that this child had the sense to speak to an adult about what he discovered,” Inspector Colin Shaw of the Police Service of Northern Ireland said.

“As a father of a child, I know how enticing Kinder eggs and their contents are to children. In this instance, the children are to be commended for passing the contents to their parents,” DUP councillor Alan Robinson said.

Every breastfeeding mother has heard horror stories about being in shamed in public for trying to feed their babies, which is why one New Zealand mom was nervous when her baby started crying and needed to be fed.

Everything was going smoothly for Briar Lusia McQueen when she went out to breakfast for the first time on her own with her 8-week-old infant, however, she couldn’t help feeling intimidated by other customers and staff when her baby started crying to be fed.

“Today was the first time I went out for breakfast alone with my 8-week-old son, I had just received my breakfast and hot chocolate when Jaxon started crying wanting his booby so of course I fed him,” the new mom wrote in a post to Facebook, which has since gone viral.

It’s every expecting parent’s worst nightmare to have their baby switched at the hospital accidentally with someone else’s baby, but thankfully it practically never happens to most parents.

Mercedes Casanella and her husband Richard Cushworth had never even heard of anyone who’s child had been switched at birth, so weren’t concerned when Mercedes gave birth in her home country of El Salvador.

The couple then returned to their home in Texas, but as their infant grew, they started to get suspicious of the baby they thought was their own. When the baby was four months old, they finally brought him in to get a DNA test, which revealed their fears were true.

The couple managed to track down the baby’s mother, who had been caring for their son Moses as her own, and finally got their son back. As happy as they were to have their son back, Mercedes admits it was heartbreaking to give away the boy she had believed was her own son for months.

“The baby I had been nursing, taken care of, loving him, bathing,” Mercedes explained. “We were rushed in and we had to go really quickly and we barely had time to say goodbye. … That was the most difficult part of all the situation. … I think we were in love with the baby.”

Since switching the boy back, it’s taken 9 long months to get Moses back home in the United States, but now he is finally home where he belongs.”It’s been a long and painful process, and I can’t believe we have this beautiful miracle boy here in Dallas,” Richard said.

“It was beautiful, it was a blessing of God. I got to nurse him, too, without any problems,” Mercedes said. “He adjusted, he never cried.”

If you’ve ever seen a kid get a haircut for the first time, you’ll know that they don’t always understand that anything you do to your hair is only permanent since it will eventually grow back.

Irish dad Greg Hogan had been growing his beard for years, and had never shaved it off once during his adorable son’s life, so when he finally did decide to shave it all off for the first time, he decided to film his son’s reaction to his new look.

At first, the confused little boy doesn’t know what to make of the man who looks just like his dad minus the beard, and asks ‘What happened to your beard?’

Once the boy realizes his dad shaved off his beard, he bursts into tears, and doesn’t realize how easy it is for his dad to grow his beard back and how quickly it could be back.

Dad tries hopelessly to comfort his crushed little boy, but is finally forced to concede to growing his beard back so his son would stop crying. “He is not happy that I shaved it off. I am growing it back immediately,” dad wrote in a caption along with the video.

Vet Captures Bear Walking Upright, But His Funny Walk Is Due To A Sad Story

There’s nothing funnier than animals who act like people, right?

We all love a good viral video of a dog who thinks he’s an artist or a bear that walks on his two hind legs. And while the bear in the following video is hilarious, his reason for walking like this is anything but funny.

Eliza Jinata, a veterinarian in Laos posted this video showing the bipedal bear on YouTube, and while she admits that the scene may be somewhat amusing, the reason the animal walks on two legs is horrifying. He was reportedly rescued from a bile farm, a place where bears are routinely milked for digestive fluid produced by their liver (yes, you read that correctly–routinely milked for digestive fluid).

The bears were kept in cages, treated poorly, and in the case of this one, malnourished. This detrimental treatment led to his propensity to walk around on two feet.

“With this living condition it’s not surprising that he’s malnourished, which is shown by how short his legs are and the body size is disproportionately small for his head size. He is much smaller than an adult Asiatic black bear of his age should be,” Jinata writes on her blog, Holiztic Vet.

“Before his current place was turned into a rescue center, it functioned as a zoo where visitors could feed him and other bears by throwing food from outside the fence. With his smaller and malnourished body, it is easier for him to stand on his hind leg because his spine can support his light body weight. Standing up and waiting for food slowly became a habit which he does on a daily basis now,” Jinata continues.

Today, more than 10,000 bears are believed to be kept in bile farms, living in treacherous conditions. If you feel for these animals, PLEASE SHARE this story to get the word out and let people know that this awful treatment of animals exists.

Little Girl Receives Doll With Matching Prosthetic Leg

For a little girl with a prosthetic leg, the surprise of seeing of doll just like her was something she’ll never forget.

In the magical video below, 10-year-old Emma cries happy tears when she opens the gift of an American Girl doll which had been modified to have a pink prosthetic right leg.

Mom, Courtney Fletcher Bennett recorded Emma opening the gift, and posted the video to Facebook. Since Bennett posted the video on June 1, it has already received upwards of 10 million views!

“You got to be kidding me,” Emma said before hugging her new doll. “It’s got a leg like me!”

The doll was made after Bennett reached out to the New York-based company, A Step Ahead Prosthetics, who says on their website that they do not charge families for customized prosthetic legs for dolls.

“We feel that it is absolutely crucial to boost the self-confidence, self-esteem, and feelings of inclusion for little girls with limb loss, and that something as small as a doll that resembles them can have a profound effect on their mental and physical well-being. In that spirit, anyone with a child who has had or is facing an amputation is welcome to send us an American Girl doll which we will happily modify with a prosthetic limb (or limbs) to match the child,” A Step Ahead Prosthetics wrote.

They even included a special letter with the doll that Bennett read aloud while Emma hugged the doll.

“After a few weeks of training to walk and run in her new prosthetic, she is ready to go home and live her life without limitations with you,” Bennett read.

Grandpa And Grandson Share ‘Matching Zipper’ Heart Surgery Scars

zippers

This grandfather and grandson don’t just share the same genes, but the two have nearly identical zipper scars and incredible stories.

In the photo below, taken by Sunshine Moody photography, 11-month-old Kolbie Gregware is held by his grandfather, Allan Halstead. Both Halstead men had open heart surgery: Kolbie when he just four months old, and Allan had his first procedure 12 years ago, according to Kolbie’s mother, Brandy Gregware. Gregware said she wanted the photo of her son and father because she’s not sure how much longer her dad will live.

“The medication he’s on has his heart functioning at about 10 percent,” she said. “Once it stops working, that’s it,” Gregware told ABC News. And Kolbie hasn’t been out of the hospital much since he was born. “He’s been on ventilators and oxygen,” Gregware said.

She describes that her son and father share a special bond, and says that Kolbie could stare at him for hours.

“It’s amazing to watch Kolbie look at him. It’s like he’s looking at God,” Gregware says.

The photographer, Sunshine Moody, says when she learned of Kolbie’s story, she offered to take the photos for free.

“I’ll admit I was scared to be trusted with such a powerful photo,” Moody said.

“The time came to do their photo, and for me I wanted it to be sweet but also real,” Moody said. “I wanted the rawness of the situation to come out but also the sweet moment they locked faces and he spoke to Kolbie.”

Well, we think she accomplished all of that and more.

Mom Shames ‘Bully’ Daughter By Forcing Her To Wear Thrift Shop Clothes

bully

One Utah mother has devised a very creative way to prevent her stepdaughter from bullying others at school, but is it the right thing to do?

When Ally Olsen discovered her fiance’s daughter, Kaylee Lindstrom, was bullying another girl’s clothing at school, Olsen says she was “horrified.” Kaylee, who is in the fourth grade was allegedly teasing a classmate about her clothes, calling them “ugly” and “sleazy.”

That’s what Olsen decided she needed to teach her step-daughter a lesson. Olsen took Kaylee to a local thrift shop and told her to pick out the ugliest clothes she could find. So Kaylee grabbed items off of racks, unaware to the fact that she would soon be wearing them. Every “ugly” item, Olsen made Kaylee put in their cart. When they got home, Olsen made Kaylee wear the “hideous” clothing to school for the next few days.

During those days, Kaylee says she was teased and bullied by other classmates, which made her realize how the girl she was bullying must have felt. After two straight days of being bullied at school, Kaylee decided to apologize to the girl she made fun of, and now the two girls are actually friends.

Mommy Blogger’s Brutally Honest And Applaudable Confession Goes Viral

Let’s face it: being a parent is the best job in the world, but like many careers it comes along with a high price.

In this case, the hours are 24/7, there’s no vacation time, and you’re working unpaid. It’s not unusual for parents to fantasize about putting their little ones on “silent” for a while. However, no one really talks about how tough parenting can be some days…and when they do, other moms tend to come out with their pitch forks!

That’s why we love the following open, honest, applaudable essay from Sarah Kallies, who describes herself on Huffington Post as “a rough around the edges writer, speaker, wife and mom to 3-year-old twin boys…an assault survivor, mental illness fighter, and recovering addict/alcoholic who is loving life clean, sober, on medication, in therapy, and more than anything else, trying to live each day loving the way Jesus did.”

[Facebook]
[Facebook]

Check out Sarah’s amazing post, first published on her website SaraKallies.com:

It’s memorial weekend. We are up at the cabin with family. A time where we are supposed to be resting and relaxing. A time of thankfulness. A time of remembering those who have given their lives for our freedom.

My husband has been working overtime and doing freelance work so we’ve been looking forward to this trip for weeks. We even bought our twin two year olds their first fishing poles and planned a treasure hunt.

And then there’s me.

A massive ball of, “just take me to the sanitarium.”

I mean, one of my boys just looked at me and said, “Mama’s tired.” Yes. Yes, Bennett. Mama is tired. Mama is reeeaaal tired. I do my best to keep my emotional issues from my boys but they are getting older and more perceptive and there is only so much “fake it ’til ya make it” I can get away with. And I am realizing that you don’t just have to have a mental illness like I do for this to be an issue. This world will make you crazy if you aren’t there already.

I am dead serious.

We are all just out there slogging it out. Doing our best to raise our kids. To keep them safe. To protect them from the big bad world.

13256404_10156922657820621_7119612423043198996_n
[Facebook]
But what happens when the world tells you that you are the problem? That you’re not being careful enough. Aware enough. Diligent enough.

That was my biggest fear coming into motherhood. In fact, for a majority of my life I was adamant that I was not going to have children. I didn’t think, given my own childhood and my issues with anxiety and depression, that I would be fit for the job. And I think the current cultural climate does not help. Too many rules. And honestly, by these standards, no one is fit.

The night before we left I read an article about a study that had been done about the worst types of sunscreen to use on children and adults. Sure enough, the stuff I just bought a while back was number one and number two. Of course. Of course it is. Do I throw it out and waste the $30, which is no small sum for us? Then go out and buy the good stuff, the lotion made by tiny fairy angels who infuse it with love and eternal life, for the low low price of my left ovary? And, by the by, it’s only available in California, because that’s where the fairy angels live.

Or do I go ahead and lather my children up in this toxic death cream because I obviously, according to this article, don’t care about them?

I hate life.

I am tired, people. And it’s not just because my husband is working a lot. Or because I have twin toddlers that only function at 0% or 120%. They live on what I like to call, Captain Me Planet. There is zero visibility and they are flying at 100 mph anyways. No big deal. I got this.

Please don’t call CPS.

I am just sick and tired of all the rules. Rules about food. Rules about hygiene. Rules about clothing. Rules about schooling/education. Rules about development. Rules about medication. Rules about sleep methods/co-sleeping. Rules about playtime. Rules about friends. Rules about car seats. Rules about breast feeding. Rules about child wearing. Rules about television. Rules about the rules.

And you can exchange other words for rules. Opinions. Lessons. Studies. Guidelines. Lists. Programs. Beliefs. Standards. Policies. Ad nauseam.

I’ve had it. Please, and I mean this from the bottom of my overly exhausted heart, take your scientific pie chart and shove it.

I never realized in all the years of my anxiety and worrying about having kids, that maybe I would not be the problem after all. That loving my boys and doing my best to just provide for them with the resources that are available to me, without losing my mind or breaking the bank, was what a responsible parent looks like.

That being bi-polar or on medication is not what would keep me up at night. Instead I’m awake wondering if I washed the boys new clothes we just bought before they wore them today because I read an article about them having toxic chemicals in them that are bad for their skin.

[Facebook]
[Facebook]
Can we just go ahead and say that everything everywhere is trying to kill us? Always? And just get it over with? Move on? We’re all gonna die someday anyhow. This has gotten out of hand.

Instead, I want to feed my children one meal. Just one meal, and not have that little voice in the back of my head gnawing at me about whether or not what they are ingesting is possibly the feast of Satan. I just don’t know it yet because I haven’t had the time in my super flexible schedule to research all the ingredients on the packaging.

I am not saying being pro-active is wrong. I am not saying caring about these issues is wrong. I am not saying having a voice is wrong. Do what you can. When you can. I know I do. For all you Mamas knocking it out of the park with this stuff, right on. You have my utmost respect. Truly. You are to be commended.

I’m just tired. Tired of it all. I look at my boys when I put them to bed every night and they are the sweetest, happiest, healthiest people that I have ever met. So far, they are the best thing I have ever done. This is the one thing in my life that I know that I’m getting right. Whether the latest mommy trends agree or not. And sometimes I wish I lived in a time where I wasn’t inundated with these daily articles.

My Father and Stepmother run an after care facility for trafficked children in Thailand. Two weeks ago they took in a three year old. I repeat, a three year old. She has never spoken and is completely malnourished. Only God knows what she has seen, endured. Meanwhile, we here in the west are getting bent out of shape about what time we put our kids to bed.

Perspective.

So that’s it. Post all the scathing articles. Share the latest revelations. I’ll pass for now. Life is hard enough. I’m going to live and soak in each moment with my boys instead. When I see, “10 Things you had no idea were in the air you are breathing right now,” or, “Did you know that opening your eyeballs can be fatal?” I am going to shut my computer and go to sleep. And dream about our next camping trip. Or hiking adventure. Because I’m tired. Really, really, tired. And I’m more interested in living each day with my children than dying with them.

Thank you and good night.

Daughter Of Fallen Cop Gets A Police Escort To Prom

While no dad wants to see his little girl grow up and stop needing him, there are certain moments every dad dreams of witnessing like prom night, college graduation, and eventually the wedding day.

Those were the moments Officer Charlie Kondek always dreamed of seeing as his daughter Aleena grew up, but he would never get to see those precious milestones as he was shot and killed in 2014 while responding to a routine noise complaint call.

Aleena was devastated by her dad’s passing, and was especially sad two years later when her prom night approached because she knew her dad wasn’t going to get to see her all dressed up in her gown.

Aleena’s mom, Teresa Kondek, knew what was bothering her daughter, so she secretly planned for her husband’s fellow officers and police family to surprise Aleena when she got dropped off at prom.

“It’s our responsibility and our honor to stand in for Charlie. Charlie would be here and he’s not able to be here. So we want to be here for Charlie and for Aleena,” Maj. Jeff Young said.

The minute Aleena stepped off the bus at prom, she saw her police family, and knew her dad was watching down on them all at that moment. “They always say, ‘never forgotten,’ and I totally believe that. They’re always texting me, ‘how are you doing?’ and they step in with things that my dad did, and they’re amazing. I love each and every one of them,” she said.

Conductor Mateusz Szymanski is a hero after what happened earlier this week.

The conductor in Karolewo, Poland was operating a large train with many passengers saw a truck stopped on the tracks up ahead. He knew with the mass of the locomotive barreling behind him, he would never be able to stop the train in time. So what did he do instead?

Syzmanski ran through the train cars as fast as he could shouting like a maniac.

“Get down, lay on the floor,” Syzmanski ordered as he ran through the train. The result? Safety of every single one of his passengers. Nobody was hurt, a lucky outcome that may have been due to this conductor’s quick thinkings.

Good things people like this exist in the world. PLEASE SHARE this inspiring story of safety and heroism with friends and family online!

Synthetic Canine Could Save Real Dogs’ Lives

Alberta has a pulse and bleeds when cut, but she’s a canine made completely of synthetic material.

Alberta may look like a ‘scary dog,’ but she was created to provide veterinary students with a body for surgical practice.

According to SynDaver, vet students learn surgical skills by practicing on live shelter animals, and the animals are then euthanized after the labs. Having a cadaver for veterinary students to practice on eliminates that need.

“The campaign will begin to end a process known as terminal surgery labs,” SynDaver explains. “The product will immediately end the need for terminal surgery labs in veterinary medical schools and represents the beginning of the end of animal testing in general.”

“Animal cadavers are bad,” SynDaver continues. “Not just because they were once live animals but because once the tissues are frozen and or preserved, they’re not the same anymore, so they don’t feel the same and they don’t perform the same,” said Dr. Christopher Sakezles, the founder of SynDaver Labs. Synthetic dogs like Alberta are going to give students more of a lifelike experience with the tissue.

The synthetic canine is detailed and realistic so it will give veterinary students a platform to practice surgery, SynDaver says.

Credit: Syndaver Labs

“The canine utilizes SynDaver’s patented SynTissue, which mimics living tissue, includes a full list of functioning bodily systems, and has the capability to simulate customized diseases, illnesses and medical complications.”

Syndaver labs is seeking $24 million in a crowdfunding campaign, to be able to five 20 synthetic dogs to every accredited veterinary medicine college in the world. Cheaters

if you’re married, and even if you’re not, you might be interested to learn that when it comes to cheating on your partner, there’s a perfectly scientific explanation for it, sort of. When it comes down to it, even though humans are emotional, even spiritual beings, they are also animals on some level, and that means biology, chemistry and of course, instincts. The very fact that cheating is called cheating, demoting the act of consensual sex between two people to something sleazy, cheap and wrong, means a person is doomed before they even started. That is to say that people, and the dynamics of marriage, tend to change, often unrecognisably, over years and decades. And that goes some way to explaining why more than 50% of people who are married cheat on their partners at some point in the relationship. Let’s find out why…

All a dog really wants is a bone, but what happens when that bone goes down the wrong pipe?

For one pooch, it was a situation of life or death. The animal was fed scraps from the table after his family enjoyed a nice roasted chicken. After all, how could you say no to such a sad face begging for just a hint of meat?

However, the pooch soon started wheezing and gasping for breath. When his owners realized he was choking, they rushed him to a dog clinic and made sure he received emergency attention.

Veterinarians had to use a local anesthetic because they couldn’t put him under. They then pried the dog’s mouth open and went to work pulling out the chick wing.

Fortunately, this lucky dog escaped with only a few scratches along the inside of his mouth. However, it could have been MUCH worse. Make sure, if you feed your dog from the table you aren’t giving your good dog a bad bone.

And PLEASE SHARE this story with all dog owners so they know the risks we take when we give our dogs a bone.

We all know a good hug on a bad day can bring us ‘back to life,’ but do hugs have the power to literally bring us back to life?

We’ve covered stories like this before. You may remember these twins who healed each other with just a touch. That touch went on to transform certain things that we know about medicine.

Again, we’ve found a miraculous story in which a touch transformed a life. Kate Ogg and husband David are parents of three. Before they were parents, they had issues conceiving for three years. Finally, after many disappointments, Kate found out she was pregnant.

but her story took an unexpected turn when she went into labor at just 26 weeks,Kate explained in a video released by Johnson’s Baby.

Kate was terrified throughout her whole labor and when it was finally over, she couldn’t breathe a sigh of relief quite yet. Doctors came into the room and told her and David that their daughter was safe and healthy, but t son Jamie was not going to make it.

This was a diagnosis Kate refused to accept. She immediately made David get undressed and climb into bed with her and Jamie, who she cradled motionless against her chest.

“I wanted as much body heat as possible because the baby was cold and I wanted him to be warm and alive,” Kate said.

The three of them lay there for two hours holding Jamie close to Kate’s heart, so his ear could hear her heart beating, according to TODAY. During that time they spoke lovingly to the baby, telling him that he had a twin sister named Emily he had to look out for and that they had big plans for him and his life.

The couple was bawling when Jamie finally moved. They called in the nurses and much to everybody’s shock, it looked like Jamie was going to survive.

Texas High School Says It Will Not Allow Honor Students To Wear Stoles At Graduation

If you spend your four years of high school working hard, missing social events, and sticking your nose to the grind stone, you deserve to be commended for all your hard work, right? Well, not for some Texas students.

National Honor Society students at a high school in Plano, Texas were reportedly informed they will not be allowed to wear their stoles at graduation. The practice is being discontinued because it is not inclusive to all students.

A National Honor Society sponsor told a parent that administrators from Plano Senior High School do not want to single any students out, WFAA.com reported.

“They deserve it,” one parent told WFAA.com. “They worked so hard for it. If you choose not to work that hard, then that’s OK. I wasn’t an NHS kid. I didn’t wear the NHS stole when I graduated. But friends of mine did, and I was OK!”

“It’s kind of a national thing that’s recognized, so I don’t know why just Plano can’t recognize it,” said one student.

The school said in a statement, “We are aware that many honor students may not also be members of the National Honor Society, but the school has opted not to include additional regalia per tradition. This long-standing practice was questioned by students twice in the school’s history, once in 2004 and again around 2008 or 2009. Both times, the tradition of not including any regalia for various student clubs, honor societies, leadership roles or other activities was explained to them, and in 2008/2009, class officers and student congress were given the opportunity to consider a change in the practice. The student leaders opted to uphold the tradition. The campus will look at the practice again next year if students wish.”
