Whether it’s a 5-year-old child or a 12-year-old dog, there’s something about splashing fountains that lure in pooches and tots alike.
Take the dog in the following video, for example. The video comes to us thanks to Rumble, and while we don’t know who this dog is or who he belongs to, we’ve already fallen in love with him.
The pooch was taken by his owner for a stroll through Brooklyn. Outside the Brooklyn Museum is a very clever fountain that has shoots of water sporadically create a scene outside the steps of the trendy spot.
It looks like it was a bit chilly that day. On-lookers wear jackets and shiver in their scarves, but this dog doesn’t give a flying hoot about the temperature. A water park just landed in the middle of his day and he’s going to seize the opportunity before it passes him by.
Possibly the best thing about dogs is their ability to live in the present. These animals are masters at appreciating the little things.

The Frost family was enjoying their reunion in Newport Beach, California, when their nephew called out for help.
Stuart Frost said that he and his family were on the beach playing games when his nephew, Jesse Martin, 35 said that a woman was frantically looking for her 3-year-old son Brooks.
“I could see this lady down the beach with her hands on her head, just distraught. So I said to my family, ‘Let’s go help her.’ She was around like 50 people, and none of them got up to help her. It was really odd,” said Frost.
The entire family consisting of about 30 people rushed over to help the woman look for her son, who she said was wearing blue swim trunks. The men began searching the hills, digging deeper in them, and that is when Martin felt the boy beneath the sand and saw his blue swim trunks.
“We started digging, and Jesse found this little boy, Brooks, and pulled him out. He was ash grey, he was dead. He was dead. So we pulled him out, and the mom was just beside herself,” said Frost. The 3-foot hole the toddler was digging had collapsed on top of him. They began to give the boy CPR, and after a minute or so the boy’s lips started to quiver. After a few minutes, he started to breathe again and began screaming for his mom.
“We were cleaning out the sand out of his mouth, just making sure nothing would go down his lungs,” said Stuart Frost. “When Brooks finally said the word, ‘Mom,’ that’s when I knew we were OK. And it was pure relief,” Frost told azfamily.com
According to Newport Beach Lifeguard Battalion Chief Brent Jacobsen, the boy was rushed to the hospital, and he would up being ok. “One of the neat things about the story is that later that day, the family came over and showed us a picture of him laughing and smiling and doing okay,” Frost said. “It was truly a miracle.”

And as for Martin, being that he has two young children of his own, he does not consider himself a hero: “I’m not a hero. I have two kids of my own, it scares me. I just like to help out and help anyone we can. I knew (the mom) was frantic and scared. Kids have gotten away from me, I know the feeling. I just tried to jump in and help,” he said.
Lifeguard Battalion Chief Jacobsen says that sand entrapment is a danger many people are not aware of:
“It is very easy to become entrapped,” he said. “Sand can weigh several hundred pounds and you don’t even realize it.”
It’s recommended that holes be dug no deeper than one foot and that tunnels are not dug or climbed into. Both children and adults have been injured and killed from sand collapses at beaches.

An elderly British woman almost died all because she let her dog lick her face.
While allowing our dogs to lick our face is common and a wonderful sign of affection, it can also be pretty dangerous, too.
The online medical journal BMJ Case Reports recently wrote that an elderly British woman almost died after letting her dog lick her face. A relative of the woman grew concerned when she started slurring while speaking on the phone, and became unresponsive.
When paramedics got to her home, they found her slumped semi-conscious in a chair, and immediately took her to the hospital. The woman was confused, had a headache, diarrhea and high fever, and worst of all, her kidneys were shutting down. Blood tests revealed that the 70-year-old woman had contracted sepsis, or blood poisoning, from her Italian greyhound.
More tests determined that that capnocytophaga canimorsus bacteria, which is found in the mouths of dogs and cats led to the woman’s illness.
“This is an interesting case because neither scratch nor bite was established, although close petting including licks was reported,” doctors from the Department of Medicine for the Elderly at the University College London Hospitals wrote in the case report.
“This is an organism carried in the mouths of dog and it causes a very bad sepsis infection,” according to CBS News. Although, this is uncommon because it was a lick, and not a bite.
While there is a common myth that says dogs mouths are cleaner than humans mouths, both contain bacteria, and studies have revealed harmful pathogens in dogs’ mouths. If you have a cut in your mouth, or your gums are bleeding, bacteria from a dog’s tongue can enter the open wound and spread infection to other parts of the body.
“The last thing you want to do is alarm people that they’ll be infected if they get licked or kissed by a dog,” Farber told CBS.

One thing you should avoid: allowing dogs to lick newborn babies because their immune systems aren’t strong enough yet to fight that kind of infection.
As far as the elderly woman, she recovered fully after a month in the hospital, where she spent two weeks in intensive care.

For this reason, we were so touched to read the following letter by mom of Timothy, a special needs 7-year-old with severe autism, to a fellow mom who went above and beyond to include her son.

You don’t know me and I don’t know you, but my son, Timothy, sometimes sits beside your son at school.
Timothy has severe autism spectrum disorder. He is also a 7-year-old little boy who loves and plays with all of his heart. He needs a lot of extra help at school and sometimes seems just plain oblivious to what’s happening right underneath his nose.
He wants friends but sometimes doesn’t know how to make them.
He wants to play but sometimes doesn’t know how to ask.

We parents of children with special needs know only too well the hurt our kids feel when they are left out of the social gatherings.
Organized sports, play dates, sleepovers and yes, the dreaded birthday parties.
I can say whole-heartedly that my son has not attended a single one. We have received countless invitations in the past few years, but mostly by kids who mercilessly invite the entire class. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful.
But I wonder if the parents know what would happen if I brought Timothy? The interruptions, the meltdowns. How I would hate to take the spotlight from the birthday child.
So we politely decline. Every single one.
Until your invitation arrived in the mail with a special note. It read:
“Carter sat beside Timothy at school and he always talks about him. I really hope he can come. We are renting a bounce castle that we can attach a small bounce slide at the bottom. We will also have water balloon’s and water guns. Maybe Timothy can come earlier in the day if it would be too much with the whole class. Let me know how we can make it work.”

Kids can be cruel, and many parents know that first hand.
It is in a parents’ nature to protect their children from anything and anyone, but it is also in siblings nature as well.
When girls at school were bullying one 12-year-old’s little sister, she decided to respond to them in an amazing way. She wrote a “cheerful” invitation to the young girls in an attempt for them to stop picking on her younger sister.
The girl who was babysitting the older sister posted the invitation on Twitter, and it has received thousands of comments.

It might seem fanatical to say that parents need to keep an eye on their young children at all times, but the security footage from a local California store is proving exactly why turning your attention away from a child for even two seconds is too long.
One California mother had been running errands with her infant baby and 4-year-old daughter one afternoon, and understandable had her hands full as she walked into a local cell phone store in Victorville and got in line. As she stood in line, however, her 4-year-old little girl wandered about a foot away in front of the shop’s entrance.
Knowing her little girl was standing just inches away, mom turned her attention towards the line for a moment, but it was all the time a man needed to reach into the store and grab the little girl.

With her baby still in her arms, mom sprinted after the man abducting her child and managed to free her from his grip.

Luckily, police were quick to the scene and managed to catch 24-year-old Terry Ransom near the scene, and was taken into custody for attempting to abduct the child.

As you get older, standing out from the crowd can actually be a good thing, however, when you’re in fourth-grade, standing out means getting mercilessly bullied.
In honor of a breast cancer awareness campaign, one fourth-grader from Sheboygan Falls Elementary School wore a bubblegum pink shirt to school one day. The shirt read ‘Tough Guys Wear Pink’ yet instead of feeling tough, 9-year-old William Gierke felt like a loser.
After bullies picked on William for his pink shirt and called him a ‘sissy’, he ended up going home in tears and was so traumatized that he even told his mom, Tomi, he didn’t want to go back to school.

Despite being scared of the bullies, William went back to school, but was stunned when he saw his teacher, Mr. Winter, in a bright pink shirt. “It started out as a way to help William feel safe at school,” said Mr. Winter, who wore pink shirts for an entire week. “That’s what I want it to be is a way for him to feel that way and to know that he’s supported.”
William was so excited by what his teacher did, so took a picture together and sent his worried mom the picture.“I sat at my desk and I actually was in tears,” Tomi said.

Getting an X-ray taken can be a little scary even for adults, so when one Mississippi mom had to bring her 3-year-old son in for an x-ray, she let him take in his favorite toy to keep him company.
On September 24, 2012, Leslie Jeffus gave birth to her son Aiden, however, doctors soon realized, the tiny baby was born with a congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which means he only had half of a heart.
Because of his heart condition, Aiden has already had three open-heart surgeries, the last of which he is currently recovering from. Every morning, the hospital has to take an X-ray of the three-year-old’s chest to check his progress.

Aiden, who is an avid fan of Toy Story, never goes anywhere without his toy Woody doll, and when it came time for his X-ray, Leslie decided to let him take Woody along. Not only does Aiden take woody with him for all his treatments, but he makes sure Woody is pictured in every scan.

Waking up alone in the hospital surrounded by strangers can be traumatizing for any child, and one dedicated dad refused to let that happen to his 20-month-old son.
After working third shift all night, Andre Palmer was understandably exhausted, but instead of going home, the hardworking dad headed straight to the York Hospital Pediatric Unit where his baby boy was staying overnight. When he got there, his son was asleep in his hospital bed, so Andre curled up on the floor right underneath his son.
Mom Amy Palmer had fallen asleep in the chair beside her son’s bed, and when she woke up to check on her boy, she was stunned to see her husband on the floor. “I thought to myself after working all night he didn’t have to come to the hospital. He could have went home to sleep,” Amy said.

“He could have asked me to get up, but he didn’t because he knew how tired I was. He’s a great man,” mom said.
Amy managed to snap a picture of the touching moment and posted it to her Facebook page. “This is a picture of a hard-working man dedicated to his family!!” she wrote. “He’s so tired but he’s here!! Father of the year award goes to Andre Palmer!!!”

Since posting the photo, it’s been like more than 3,000 times, and Amy is stunned by the reaction. “I am so glad that this touched so many people,” she said.

Society can make you believe that having a baby is all butterflies and rainbows, but there’s also real and very messy parts to motherhood as well.
One new mom perfectly depicted what life was like in the hospital after giving birth to her little one. Incredibly courageous Amanda Bacon took to Facebook to share a bold photo of herself in the hospital wearing a giant mom diaper. Her husband snapped the photo while holding their newborn, and mom was the one who shared it on Facebook.
Bacon captioned the photo, “Motherhood uncensored,” and wrote: “I’m sharing this picture because it’s real. This is motherhood; it’s raw, stunning, messy, and freaking hilarious all rolled into one.”
“Some people probably find this uncomfortable, but why? I seriously don’t get it! It’s probably because this part isn’t talked about. We all should try and educate, empower and embrace every aspect of childbirth, including moments like this,” Bacon said.
She continued, “Nothing says welcome to motherhood like an adorable squishy baby, and a giant mom diaper.”
We think all moms can agree that this is a very real part of motherhood, and many are happy that this mom was brave enough to share it. Her sense of humor is something we admire!

The Days End Farm Horse Rescue made a shocking discovery at a farm Washington County, Maryland when they discovered three horses locked up in a barn for over a decade.
All three horses appeared to be suffering from terrible illnesses, and one miniature horse even had to be euthanized because her legs were so damaged due to years of neglect.
The most horrifying sight was an 18-year-old stallion named Quest who had three-foot-long hooves as well as other injuries.
It was painful for Quest to move since even slightly overgrown hooves can cause tendon and knee damage.
Horses should have their hooves trimmed every three to four weeks according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, so the fact that Quest did not have his hooves trimmed in 15 years is terrifying!
But luckily for Quest, after a year of rehabilitation and treatment at Days End Farm Horse Rescue, he has made a miraculous recovery. Just look at Quest’s hooves now:
Quest jumps, gallops, and lives relatively pain-free after over a decade of neglect.

While his journey is not over yet, Quest will eventually be put up for adoption.
As far as his previous owners, they were initially charged with animal cruelty, but that has been upgraded to a felony.

When most people find out they have cancer, their main concern is losing their life, however, one new mom had something else on her mind.
Sure, 29-year-old Natasha Fogarty was scared for her life when doctors told her she had breast cancer, but she was even more devastated when she realized she would have to stop breastfeeding her 4-month-old son Milo earlier than she planned.
“The connection that we had – anytime I could, I would just grab him and hold him,” Fogarty said. “We would look at each other and it would be such a connection of love and joy. It was our time, it was no one else’s.”
When Fogarty first noticed a lump on her breast, she brushed it off as a breastfeeding side effect. “I thought it was just my milk coming in,” she said. “Your boobs change, they can get lumpy, so I thought it was nothing… And then I realized after a few months that this particular lump wouldn’t go away even when all the other ones would.”

Doctors confirmed her worst fear, the lump in her right breast was cancerous, and they scheduled to remove it on June 27th. “I was just sad and devastated that I couldn’t breastfeed him anymore,” she says. “I had two weeks of breastfeeding my son after knowing I would have the surgery, so we cherished and relished every second of those moments we had together.”
But on the day before her surgery, she realized she wanted to do something that would help her remember the special bond that breastfeeding gave her and her son. “I was taking a shower and looking down and thinking, ‘I’m never going to have this breast again. This breast that nourished my son,'” Fogarty said of the moment before she reached out on Facebook for a photographer willing to do a last minute shoot.
A friend from high school saw Fogarty’s post, and even offered to help for free. A week later, she decided to post the moving photos on the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook group. “We all have our bad days in breastfeeding,” she said. “And I just wanted to inspire those women so they realize that they are lucky to be able to breastfeed every day.”

When it comes to raising a child, everyone has their own idea of what’s best for the child and what being a ‘good parent’ looks like, and one Danish dad learned the hard way that not everyone agrees with his bath time attire.
During a bath with his two-year-old daughter, Danish comedian Torben Chris’ wife snapped a photo of the two naked in the bathtub together during her bath time. Chris, who often criticizes society’s prude views of nudity, posted the photo to his Facebook account, and it didn’t take long for his photo to go viral.
“Listen: It’s OK for children and adults to be naked together,” Chirs wrote in the caption. “If we could not bear to see each other naked, we would have been born with clothes on.”

Some parents agreed with Chris and thanked him for trying to destigmatize nudity around children, which they felt is only natural, but others weren’t so supportive. Other’s called Chris a pedophile and claimed it was inappropriate to expose yourself in front of children.
“There is nothing wrong with a dad washing his daughter’s butt and private parts while she is a child,” Chris said in response to the criticism. “Rather, it is very disgusting if nobody does it, and unfair if only the mother does. Nudity with your child is not disgusting, it’s natural.”

Prisoners might seem dangerous and untrustworthy, but a group of at least 8 inmates proved to everyone that those stereotypes aren’t always true.
On June 23, a group of about 8 inmates were locked up in the holding cell of the District Courts Building in Weatherford, Texas awaiting their sentencing. One guard, whose name has not been released, was sitting outside the locked door joking with the group. But when he suddenly slumped over in his chair, the inmates knew they had to help.
“He just fell over,” said inmate Nick Kelton. “Looked like an act. Could have died right there.” Kelton and the other inmates began shouting for help, but when no answered, they broke out of the locked cell and put themselves at risk in order to help the guard.

“We were worried they’re going to come with guns drawn on us,” Kelton said. And when they found the guard, had no pulse, they began screaming for help. “They thought it was a fight,” inmate Floyd Smith said. “They thought we were taking over.”
Parker County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Speegle ran downstairs, but had no idea what to expect when he got there.“He had keys,” Speegle said of the guard. “Had a gun. It could have been an extremely bad situation.” Speegle couldn’t figure out what was happening and tried to get the inmates back in the cell, and then realized the guard had had a heart attack and called for help.
Paramedics were able to shock the guard back to life, but help could have come too late if the brave prisoners didn’t step up to help. “He could have been there 15 minutes before any other staff walked in and found him,” Capt. Mark Arnett said.

“He’s a good man,” Kelton said. “I watched him die twice. It never crossed my mind not to help whether he’s got a gun or a badge. If he falls down, I’m gonna help him.”

If you know any parents on social media, you know about 90 percent of their posts are pictures or videos of their kids doing something cute or silly.
When one mom, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was out shopping with her two-year-old daughter named Charlotte and couldn’t help but snap a photo when she saw her adorable little girl pretending to breastfeed her doll who was hungry and needed to be fed.
Before bed, mom posted the photo to her Facebook account and wrote “You know you’re a breastfeeding mom when you look over in the middle of the store to your toddler saying, ‘Baby cry, baby just wants to eat,’” in the caption. She expected to get a few likes from other friends and fellow parents, but when she woke up, she was bombarded with texts and notifications over her cute post.

A friend was so disgusted by mom’s photo that she shared the post and shamed her for letting her daughter do that. “I just saw some of the nastiest s*** of my life!! If you’re okay with your daughter lifting up her shirt and putting her baby dolls mouth to her little ‘dots’ pretending to breastfeed then I personally think you need punched in the d*** face!!! It’s just simply not okay!!! Arguments welcome,” the disturbing post said. “I’m willing to shut y’all down today.”
“Charlotte has never had a bottle, I was/am lucky enough to be able to have breastfed these last two years strictly from breast. I was just so taken back,” the stunned mom wrote to the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook group. “I then questioned am I wrong? How can I or why should I tell her this is wrong when it is what she knows?”
“I would LOVE to know how it is “the nastiest shit of her life” … Breastfeeding is something that is natural and IS normal,” mom wrote. “She said her baby wanted to eat, so she fed her. Charlotte says she wants to eat, in public or not, I nurse. Charlotte also pretends to do her makeup, my son pretends to work on his vehicles and fix things from watching his father. Isn’t that how it is? Your child mimicking NORMAL daily behavior?”

When residents from the remote village of Kirauli in India heard the cries of what sounded like a newborn baby, they couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. However, when one man looked down into an old, dried out well, he couldn’t believe what he saw at the bottom.
The baby was just five days old, but the villagers had no idea how long she had been in the well and had no idea how to safely rescue her, so they decided to call police for help. “We immediately made a distress call to the police, after which a team of cops came within six to seven minutes and started rescue operations,” villager Mukesh said.
When sub-inspector Virpal Singh heard the baby girl’s cries and saw her wrapped in a white cloth at the bottom of the well, he didn’t think twice about jumping down.
“We were surprised to see the girl in the 50-ft-deep well. Wasting no time I asked the local villagers to give us a rope which we used to tie it around the waist and I went down deep into the well to rescue the baby girl,” he said.

“The baby was gravely injured and was struggling to breathe. I gave the baby to my junior colleague who rush her in the police jeep to the nearest community health care centre,” Virpal said. “It was all a team effort to save the child, my team worked well.”
The baby, who was suffering from a ruptured lung due to the 50-foot fall, a skin infection, and possibly other internal injuries, was then brought to a hospital to be cared for in the pediatric ICU, and is luckily getting the treatment she needs.

Finding the perfect outfit to wear to a big event like a wedding can be a big challenge for many men and women. Feeling good, comfortable and confident can make all the difference between spending the night sitting alone or on the dance floor.
That’s exactly why when fitness trainer and blogger Liz Krueger was asked by her college roommate and close friend to be her last-minute plus-one to a wedding in Minneapolis, she wanted to look and feel her very best at a party full of strangers.
The 31-year-old, who is married to fellow fitness enthusiast David Krueger, decided to reached into her closet for a fun and sexy, old favorite to feel her best on the scorching 90-degree day. Little did she know that her night would soon be ruined by a few immature, adult “mean girls” who shamed her choice to wear a mini-dress.
In the Instagram post below that has since gone viral, Krueger explains that as she was standing alone during the reception an intoxicated woman walked by and slapped her on the bottom.
She told Us Weekly the woman said, “It was a dare from my friends; you’re a target,” before turning around and seeing more drunk women snickering. Another woman spilled an entire beer down her arm and didn’t give an apology. Instead, the women told her to lighten up, but Krueger said she had enough and left with her friend. “The looks and stares continued after that, and I felt so unwelcome and embarrassed,” she said.
Krueger said she didn’t attend the church ceremony and there were some people in jeans and baseball hats at the reception. “It wasn’t like I was attending a black tie affair in this dress,” she told Us Weekly. “I have pretty good common sense in that way!”
Krueger told SELF that she even got approval before leaving the house in her peach bodycon dress. “My husband is the first person to tell me, ‘Maybe you shouldn’t wear that,'” Krueger said. “And a different friend came over and she saw me before the wedding and said, ‘Oh you look really nice.’ She would tell me if she thought I looked inappropriate, so there wasn’t much thought of it.”
Since the fitness trainer shared her story on social media, she has gained an outpouring of support, with many other women commenting how they have been victims of adult bullying or body shaming by other women.
Krueger has now made it her personal mission to promote kindness and to put an end to all the woman-on-woman hate. I’m just trying to get as connected as I can with other women who are trying to do good,” she told SELF. “I want to focus on the positive and not all the negative stuff that’s been attracted from this post.”
