Idaho Man Rescues A Sparrow Who Was Frozen To A Metal Pipe

Usually, when you approach a bird perched on a fence, they instinctually fly away, which is why one Idaho man was surprised when he approached a small sparrow perched on a fence and it didn’t even move.

However, as he moved closer, the man realized it wasn’t because the bird was unusually trusting, but because its tiny feet were frozen to the metal fence, which made it physically impossible to fly away no matter how hard it tried.

The man suspected the bird had stopped for a drink from the heated water tank and then went to sit on the fence. Normally that would be fine, but in the below-freezing weather, the bird’s wet feet instantly fused with the pipe. “It is not uncommon for birds to drink from the heated tank,” the man said. “Apparently this unfortunate bird had gotten its feet wet and, while making its exit, had become frozen to the fence in the prevailing near zero Idaho temperatures.”

“First, I attempted to warm the feet of the frightened bird by pressing my palm against both the fence and the bird’s feet, while also gently restraining the bird’s flapping wings,” the good samaritan said. “It then seemed that warming the bird’s feet with my warm breath would bring quicker success. Gentle sideways motion with my thumb brought freedom for the frightened bird and a smile of satisfaction to my face… a delightful way to start a new year.”

Furious Mom Says Sexual Product Was Purposely Marketed Toward Her 12-Year-Old

A horrified Mom was shocked to see her 12-year-old daughter receive a Christmas gift emblazoned with instructions for an inexplicable sexual act.

[Mercury Press and Media]
[Mercury Press and Media]
The mom of three, Lesley Hughes, said the pink, glittery body wash specifically marketed the product as the perfect gift for a young girl. Not only is the product pink and sparkly, it’s also called ‘Snow Fairy,” the kind of product a 12-year-old would like.

[Mercury Press and Media]
[Mercury Press and Media]
If the product wasn’t meant to purposely use sex as a marketing tactic for young girls, then it was a ghastly oversight. The label on the back specified use for the product in a way that left Hughes’s jaw on the floor.

The directions read, “if you really don’t know how, then we suggest you find someone you really like and invite them into the shower with you to demonstrate.”

[Mercury Press and Media]
[Mercury Press and Media]
A spokesperson defended the product saying, “while we take our products and their ingredients seriously, we try not to take ourselves too seriously and like to have humor at the heart of everything we do.”

“Our humor is very traditionally British,” the release continued. “Sometimes in the style of seaside postcards and Christmas pantomime, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, often self-deprecating.”

What do you make of this product’s instructions: harmlessly hilarious or outrageously inappropriate? Tell us your thoughts in the comments and please SHARE with friends and family!

Blind Man’s Guide Dog Hides Hidden Camera. When His Wife Saw The Footage, She Was Horrified.

You’d think most people on the street would be inclined to help a disabled person with a guide dog, especially in a busy city, but unfortunately, the world can be a pretty upsetting place these days.

A heartbreaking example of this is the video Amit Patel recorded on a GoPro attached to his guide dog, Kika, as they did their daily commute around London during rush hour. The 37-year-old A&E doctor, which is the same as an E.R. doctor in the United States, lost his sight back in 2012 and wanted to show the world exactly how people treat others with disabilities in everyday life.

https://twitter.com/Kika_GuideDog/status/815931551427035136/photo/1

Patel strapped the camera to Kika and set out on the street and record the type of abuse and criticism he faces constantly. “People barged me out of the way, Kika got abused, hit with umbrellas, bags,” he told Mashable.  The former doctor told Mashable one terrible incident occurred when a woman berated him in public for holding up people on an escalator. “I was with my 2-month old baby on my chest, the dog on the left side blocking the escalator. A lady came running behind us. I told her I couldn’t walk up the escalator because of my dog. She had a go, saying was going to miss the train because of my dog,” Patel said.

https://twitter.com/Kika_GuideDog/status/810111386185592833/photo/1

Although he revealed that 99% of people he encounters are usually kind, patient and respectful, the 1% of those who are “rude and arrogant” can be difficult to live with. The video below reveals a unique look at the world from the eyes of someone who can’t see how evil the world can be.

Check it out and let us know if this perspective changes anything for you.

Police officers see just about every emergency situation possible while on the job, which is why they’re rarely left stunned when they arrive at the scene.

Yet even after 34 years of service, one Louisiana police officer was completely shocked when he arrived at a home and found a cat in desperate need of help. “A cat had been stuck between a garage door of a residence and the wall,” said Deputy Mike Scott in a post on Facebook. “Never in all of my years was I prepared to encounter what I saw upon my arrival.”

The cat named Bella had been taking a nap on her owner’s garage door while it was up, and when her owner left and closed the garage door, she got jammed between the door and the garage wall. Luckily, neighbors spotted Bella and called for help, and were ready to help when Deputy Scott arrived.

“The neighbors were very helpful as we cautiously removed the upper frame molding that allowed some space for us to remove the cat,” he said. “With a joint effort with neighbors we were able to remove the cat alive.” After inspecting the cat, they were stunned to see Bella was completely unharmed from the incident.

“I am not much of a cat person, but no one wants to see an animal suffer,” said Deputy Scott. “After losing so much from the flood, I was happy that I could save the homeowner’s cat. Thank God for miracles and good neighbors.”

Cop Saves A Dog Shot In The Head At Point-Blank Range

Dogs can be talented escape artists when they want to be, and when one Arizona Pit Bull mix wanted to play with the neighbor’s dog, a flimsy chain-link fence had no chance at keeping her in.

The rescue dog named Ginger dug underneath the fence and easily slipped underneath into the neighbor’s yard, however, when the neighbor saw her on his property, he shot her in the head at point-blank range. “I think she wanted to go play with their dog,” Ginger’s owner, Hayley Miller said. “The neighbor claims Ginger charged him so he shot her in the face.  She had gone over there twice before so he was ready and waiting for her to come again.”

Miraculously, the shot didn’t kill Ginger, who was found shortly after wandering a dirt road by Maricopa County Sheriff Deputy Brian Bowling. “Because the dog was injured, I didn’t know if the dog was going to be safe to handle or not,” said Bowling. “But instead of running away from me or trying to bite me or anything, she ran right up to me and started wagging her tail, and tried to get in the front seat of my patrol car.”

Bowling rushed Ginger to an animal hospital where scan revealed the miraculous reason she was still alive. “The bullet was in the back of the head, but not in the skull,” said Veterinarian Nicole Keaner. “It bounced off of the skull, so the dog was really lucky.” Ginger was still alive, but needed $3,000-$4,000 worth of surgery and treatment. ”

“Unfortunately, I don’t have this kind of money.  If I did, I would not hesitate one moment to treat her immediately,” said Miller who decided to put Ginger down when the vet contacted her with the bad news. “He got me on the phone,” Miller said about Bowling. “When I said, ‘yes, we need to put her down’, he said, ‘please don’t. We’re going to cover all of the costs.'”

“The mere fact she was shot by a .357 at what we assume was close range in the head and survived that, it means there is a big reason for all of this,” said Bowling. “This wasn’t just about a neighbor who shot a violent pit bull. There’s a lot more to this story,” said Bowling, who paid for everything out of his own pocket.

Three months ago, a baby elephant from Thailand accidentally stepped into a trap laid by local farmers to protect their crops and was found hobbling alone by villagers after being separated from her mother.

The then three-month-old baby elephant was rushed to an animal hospital a few hours away and underwent surgery where her foot had to be amputated and was brought to her new home at a zoo.“We named her Clear Sky Up Ahead because that is what she will need while she is with us,” said Kampon Tansacha, the zoo’s director.

Now, Clear Sky is learning how to walk again with the help of hydrotherapy since the muscles in her front leg have weakened. “She is still a bit nervous and scared of the water. But is she can do this regularly she will have fun. By her fourth or fifth session, she will enjoy swimming more. She’s just a baby, that’s why she’s a bit scared at first but, by nature, elephants love the water,” Vet Padet said.

Clear Sky still has about two more months of hydrotherapy but has already made huge improvements, and the team hopes she won’t need an artificial leg to support her weight.

Infertile Cat Adopts Baby Monkey As Her Own After Mama Rejects Him

When you picture a cat caring for her young, many images spring to mind, but a cradling a tiny monkey on her back is probably not one of those thoughts.

But for a 16-year-old cat named Rosinka, toting around a baby monkey adopted from a Russian zoo is just another duty for this new mom.

[AP]
[AP]
Rosinka came to have this tiny baby through an oddity of nature. For some reason, the three-week-old squirrel monkey, Fedor, was rejected by his mother. She refused to carry the little guy on her back, which is essential for him to survive the first few months of life.

So the director of Tyumen Zoo decided to carry out an experiment. He brought the monkey home with him and introduced the little guy to Rosinka, who never had any kittens of her own. She saw value in what his own mother rejected and adopted the little one as her own.

[AP]
[AP]
Now, the two are inseparable. She is consistently toting him around on her back, except for those times he needs to be fed his baby milk. The director says the monkey will stay with his adopted Mom for about a month or two until he is strong enough to be transferrer back to the zoo with his relatives.

Lost Toddler Was Found Wandering The Streets At 4:30 A.M.

When children are awake, parents have to watch them like hawks to make sure they don’t hurt themselves or wander away, and most parents can only relax once their kids are safely sleeping in their beds.

When one Detroit mom knew her toddler was sound asleep in his bedroom, she thought it wouldn’t be a big deal to step out of the apartment to the parking lot talk with a friend since she was standing right at the building’s entrance. However, when she returned back to the apartment and checked on her son, she panicked when he wasn’t in his bed where she left him or anywhere else in the apartment.

While the little boy’s mother was outside, he woke up and realized his mom wasn’t there, and decided to go out searching for her. Unfortunately, he used a side exit that was out of his mother’s view and wandered over to a nearby gas station in nothing but his pajamas and socks.

At around 4:30 a.m., the gas station surveillance camera caught the little boy struggling to open the gas station’s door, and when he finally did, he ran inside to get warm and ask for help finding his mom. The clerk and a customer wrapped him in a blanket and gave him some food before calling the police.

The police arrived shortly after, but just as they put him in the car, his frantic mom ran over looking for him. “His mother ended up running up to the gas station, and he was like, ‘That’s my mother, right there,’” said Detroit Police Officer Tinisha Alexander. The officers handed the relieved mom back her little boy since it’s not unusual for toddlers to wander off at night, but Child Protective Services will still investigate further.

Family Is Heartbroken After Game Officials Shot Their Beloved Pet Deer

A family from western Kansas was completely distraught when the pet deer they have known and loved for 22 months was shot on their property by game officials.

Kim McGaughey told The Wichita Eagle that the deer “was like one of the family.” The deer, named Faline, after Bambi’s friend and future mate in the cartoon movie was very much a big pet and that there was no reason for her to be killed

“Her being domesticated was her own doing,” McGaughey said. “She chose to stay. I never kept her from going away and being with other deer.”

But on December 19, Kansas game wardens came to the home of Mark and Kim McGaughey and within 45 minutes the deer was shot on the property.

In the video, shot by Kim’s daughter Taryn Mcgaughey, the wardens pull up to the family’s home and demand the deer be given up so they could shoot it.

In the state of Kansas it is illegal to keep a wild animal as a pet, but Robin Dennison, the Wildlife and Parks secretary, said he’s confident that game wardens acted within their authority, but would the agency to reexamine its policy on euthanizing wildlife.

A man with the wildlife department named Rankin said there were concerns the deer could be carrying chronic wasting disease, a fatal deer disease spreading through Kansas, so their options on moving the deer were limited, and live deer cannot be tested for the disease.

The Wichita Times wrote: “Rather than taking a chance the deer might not be there if the game wardens left and came back later, Rankin said game warden Tanner Dixson shot the animal near some trees on the McGaughey’s’ property, at the edge of the driveway.”

Kim McGaughey questions the rush, saying the deer was dead within 45 minutes of the game wardens arriving and during that time, she contacted three zoos to see if they would take the animal, but there wasn’t enough time.

“After having her 22 months, they couldn’t even give us 12 hours to try to take her to a sanctuary,” said Taryn McGaughey. “They said they were worried about our safety, but cats and dogs carry more diseases than any deer ever would.”

Now, the family is devastated over the loss of Faline. “She was just like a dog. She’d put her face up to you to be petted,” said Taryn McGaughey. “I have pictures of us laying together out in the yard.”

Faline also came and went as she pleased. She was not confined in any way to the family’s property and she only wore a collar so that hunters wouldn’t see her and kill her. This is a loss that has devastated the family and us too.

It’s difficult to understand why any human would want to purposely hurt or torture and innocent creature, but sadly, people are often a lot crueler than animals could ever be.

The following story about an abandoned dog found wandering a community near the Southside of Youngstown, Ohio is difficult to swallow, yet it also shows that if more people reached out to help animals who have been abused or mistreated, together we could help stop some of the cruelty they face.

The Youngstown Police Department was called in to pick up the stray, who had made his way onto someone’s porch for shelter, and brought the dog, nicknamed Bubbles, to rescue organization Animal Charity of Ohio. It was there that they realized the scratches on the pit bull mix’s face were nothing compared to what he had been through.

“He had escaped the most horrible nightmare of a life. He had escaped torture and abuse at its absolute worst,” Animal Charity of Ohio shared on Facebook. “At first glance at the scars on his face you would assume he is a fighter, but with us –all he wants is attention. He keeps going to each of us to be petted and loved. That is when we noticed something wasn’t right.”

The rescuers noticed the seemingly friendly, rescued stray wouldn’t give kisses, only touched his heroes with his face.”One of us wondered out loud, “Does he even have a tongue?” We were horrified when we looked inside his mouth and found that his tongue is missing.”

Because the poor dog’s teeth had been ground down and his tongue removed in a despicable act of torture, the rescuers concluded Bubbles was a bait dog. His teeth are ground down. Yet, after all he had been through, and with no guarantee of his survival, Bubbles held no grudges and felt safe with his new friends.

“What he has been through in his life is horrific,” they wrote, revealing the dog was being hand fed and he had learned to drink without his tongue. Vets also discovered that Bubbles had early signs of heartworms, as Animal Charity searched on Facebook for his forever home.

“He has a long road ahead of him, and there is not a 100 percent guarantee that he will survive…but we all agree that he is worth taking that chance,” a later update revealed.

If you love animals and want to help others like Bubbles who could use our help, please SHARE his story with friends on Facebook today!

screen-shot-2017-01-09-at-5-14-58-pm

When you see a dog, cat or other pet living on the street when they look like they once belonged in someone’s home, it’s nothing short of heartbreaking. However, the only thing even worse is knowing that many of these pets were born on the streets and may live their entire lives not knowing what the comfort of a loving family or home feels like.

The following video is from the amazing heroes of Hope For Paws, a Los Angeles, California-based rescue organization that saves countless homeless and helpless dogs each year, and it’s a great example of just that. In the clip, we learn that a kind woman had started feeding starving puppies nearby her home after their mother seemed to have disappeared.

“The stray mother of the puppies left them one day in search of food, and never returned,” the heroes wrote on YouTube. “For two weeks the puppies were fed by a Good Samaritan, and then we got a call on the Hope For Paws emergency line.” Due to the dense vegetation where the puppies were located, the rescuers were in for a real challenge, but the first two puppies gave in pretty easily. It was then that rescuers realized the pups were revealing three more siblings in the bushes.

“Together we were able to pull the puppies one by one. A couple of the puppies screamed because they were never touched by humans, but we were able to calm all of them down quickly,” they wrote. Thankfully, all five puppies were saved that day and turned out to have a much better life than they ever would on the streets.

“Later on that day they all got a bath, they saw the doctor, and two days later – HAPPINESS!!!”

Kitten With Brain Damage Is Befriended By A Kindhearted Cattle Dog

You may not think a giant cattle dog has much in common with a tiny kitten, but as you’ll see in the following touching story, there’s a perfect mate for everyone.

Ralphee is a tiny Manx kitten who was born with a neurological disorder known as feline cerebellar hypoplasia, according to Adam Cox, who posted the video below to Rumble via Wakaleo Animal Channel.

“A kitten is born with “CH” when their cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls fine motor skills and coordination, is underdeveloped at birth.”

“

These cats are known for their “drunken sailor” walk, which is why they’re known endearingly as ‘wobbly cats’.”

[Rumble]
Luckily for little Ralphee, the poster tells us that his condition will not get worse and his life expectancy
will be the same as any other cat…and as we learn in the tear-jerking video, Ralphee’s condition doesn’t affect his ability to make friends, either.

After Ralphee was rescued from a barn near a horse stable, Max the cattle dog took the tiny kitten in as one of his own.

“Max is never far away.” Cox wrote on Rumble. “He appears to be forever curious and watches over Ralphee wherever she goes.”

Dogs are known for being loyal, but one Arkansas animal control officer was speechless when he saw just how loyal one dog was to his best friend.

Last week, Animal Control Officer Mike Owens received a call about two elderly gods lying in a ditch beside a road. When he arrived, he discovered only one of the dogs had been hit. The other was alive and refused to leave his friend’s side. “It was probably at least five to six hours, at the very least, that they were there,” Owens said.

“We’ve seen them where they will run together and stuff like that but not where one of them had already gone and the other one would be lying beside it,” Owens said. “He pretty well refused to leave,” Owens said. “Me and another officer had to pick him up and put him in the back of our truck. Then we had to pick her up and put her in the back of the truck and it seemed to calm him down a little bit when we picked her up, but he was still wanting to try and get over to the next kennel.”

Even after arriving at the shelter, the dog has continued to grieve for his friend, and while he’s physically fine, the rescuers are worried that his broken heart might be too much. “He is doing ok, not much on eating at the moment but just a little at a time,” Jonesboro Animal Control wrote on their Facebook.

“He’s a little scared. He had cockleburs all over him from running through the weeds and stuff like that, but he’s a very, very friendly dog,” Owens said. “The dog has been well taken care of. Somebody owns this dog somewhere and hopefully, they will see it with you guys or on Facebook. Because of the emotional trauma he’s been through, the staff doesn’t want him to stay alone in a shelter too long and are hoping he’ll be adopted this week if his owners don’t come forward.

When Army Private Katelyn Gallagher came home for the holidays, she was devastated to learn the man who she trusted to watch her beloved dog had sold him while she was away.

Gallagher was heartbroken when she had to her training mission without knowing where her 5-year-old bloodhound named Buck was or if he was safe. Luckily, while she was still home, she shared her story publicly and got a tip about where he was after a story about her situation aired on the news.

Buck had been tracked located in a family home in a suburb outside of Cleveland, and when police went to the house, family confirmed it was Gallagher’s dog but refused to give him back. “Words will never be enough to explain how grateful I am or be able to explain the flush of emotions I felt upon finding Buck’s location, “ she said. “I am so thankful that he is alive.”

“Unfortunately, my heartache is not over, though. I am sorry for the family Angelo Sullo gave Buck too. I know how amazing of a boy my Buck is, so I can understand how this is a shock for them. Sadly, the family is not willing to return my boy to me. They act as though he should be theirs. I am heartbroken. I am begging this family to do the right thing.”

Gallagher is even willing to pay for the family to get another dog from a local shelter if they give Buck back, but might have to file a civil lawsuit where a judge would determine who Buck’s rightful owner is. “I got him when he was a puppy and he is like a son to me and I want him back,” Gallagher said.

Smart Horse Saves His Own Life By Pretending To Be A Donkey

When an old horse named Bubbles was in danger of being killed in Mexico, he was willing to do whatever he can to save his own life.

According to The Dodo, Bubbles resided at a kill lot in Texas, which is the last place animals go to have a chance to be rescued before heading for slaughter.

“Oftentimes, the horses or donkeys are old, or the owners lost their property, or the owners passed away or simply are unable to care for them and they are sold to auction,” Sarah McGregor, from Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue told The Dodo. “If they are not bought at auction by people or other farms, the slaughter pipeline will buy up all of the animals and resell them.”

Bubbles did want his life to end so when he spotted a group of people who were there to rescue some mini donkeys in the same life-threatening predicament, he made his move.

“This skinny, gray gelding walked straight up to our trailer, past the gates, disregarding the commands of the kill lot employees,” Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue in Frisco, Texas, wrote earlier this month. “He was intent that this was his ride out of there.”

Bubbles basically decided to adopt his own rescuers! “We stood there staring as this old guy with crumbled ears from frostbite waited patiently for the group of mini donkeys to catch up so he could jump on the ‘freedom trailer’ out of there,” the rescue wrote. “There was just no way we could leave him behind!”

Luckily, the rescue had enough money from donations to rescue the old horse, so they did. “This sweet, old man won our hearts the minute he decided it was the perfect time to escape the kill lot,” the rescue wrote. “It seems that he thought nobody would notice him escaping if he simply mixed in with the mini donkeys!”

Now, Bubbles is safe at Becky’s hope, and he spends his days showing his appreciation to rescuers. “He is adjusting so well as if he knew that this rescue was where he belonged all along,” McGregor said. “He loves attention, loves grazing and getting special treats.”

Firefighters Rescue Elderly Dog That Fell Through Frozen Ice On Lake Michigan

Michigan firefighters risked their lives to save a dog that fell through thin ice last week.

The White Lake Fire Authority said crews were called to assist Muskegon County Animal Control officers last Wednesday after the dog wandered onto the ice and fell through about 100 yards from shore.

When rescuers arrived at the scene, the struggling dog was barking and trying to climb out of the water, but he was unable to pull himself out. Wearing ice rescue suits, crews ventured out onto the frozen part of the lake to save the dog.

Chief Gregory Holman from the White Lake Fire Authority told Fox 13 News, “When looking at an ice rescue situation involving animals – if it’s a deer, we’re probably not going to endanger our staff and put them on the ice, but for a family pet like a dog we’ll do our best to rescue them,” Holman explained. “The dog was still barking, but was still in the hole that was created from him falling through.”

Holman and his crew arrived just in time, but the pup had become lethargic due to the onset of hypothermia.

Holman said, “As you get closer you get into a more crawling position to hopefully not disrupt any more of the ice – almost a slide-in method into the hole where you can gain control of the animal.”

Luckily, the 14-year-old dog was reunited with its owner, and Lana Carson, director of the Pound Buddies shelter, said, “It is very, very unusual for this dog to kind of stray like that. It just kind of wandered off and found itself on the ice. The owner is very happy that the dog is safe and sound.”
