When dogs are placed in a rescue organization’s care, they’ve usually just been saved from abuse or neglect and aren’t in the best shape.

Yet when one tiny Shih Tzu mix was brought into a Maryland animal shelter, even she could tell how bad she looked and was too ashamed to look anyone in the eye. “Initially, from what I understand from the animal control officer that brought her to me, she was very depressed,” said Renee Martini, founder of Renee’s Rescues. “Almost lethargic. She wouldn’t look you in the eye.”

The 6-year-old had been abandoned behind a shopping mall in Elkton, Maryland and was discovered covered in dirty, matted fur by an animal control officer. The officer brought her back to an animal shelter, but because of her condition, Renee’s Rescue was contacted since they work with local shelters and specialize in helping animals in need of extra care.

“When I saw her, I knew there was something magical going on underneath all those mats,” Martini said about the dog, who they named Matilda Mae, with matted fur and rotting teeth. “Once she was shaved down, we gave her a medicated bath,” Martini said. “And we started talking to her. We put the sweater on her and it was just kind of like she lit up. There was this whole other dog that just came to fruition in front of us. It was a beautiful thing to see.”

“Once the fur came off, there was this beautiful sweet dog. We’re building her up emotionally. She’s such a happy girl. She’s got a great future ahead of her.” As of now, Martini is looking for a foster home for Matilda, and will eventually be looking for a forever home for her once she fully recovers from the severe neglect.

Rescuers Save Dog Abandoned Behind A Mall Covered In Matted Fur is an article from: LifeDaily

In an emergency situation, a parent would do absolutely anything, including sacrifice their own life, in order to protect their children. A stranger, on the other hand, might not…

That’s why it can be so difficult for parents to leave their child in the care of someone else. However, one Colorado mom can rest assured that her 3-year-old son is safe with her nanny after the woman sacrificed herself to protect the little boy when they were attacked by a dog.

Sharon Molloy had been babysitting 3-year-old Jack Melichar at his family’s home when the neighbor’s two dogs got loose and ended up on the home’s porch. Molloy and the children went out to help return the friendly looking dogs to the neighbor, however, once outside, one of the dogs turned on the little boy.

“He went up on his hind legs, almost looking like he was going to say hello,” Molloy said about one of the two Briards. “He went down and took the boy and just started mauling him.” The dog badly bit Jack, who ended up needing 36 stitches, but he easily could have died if Molloy didn’t step in and shield him from the dog. In the process, she ended up getting badly mauled in her arm and leg with the bites going through to the bone.

Thankfully neighbors saw what happened and called the police and a brave neighbor stepped in a fought the dog off with a rake and a hose. Molloy ended up needing surgery and stitches and stayed in the hospital for five days and goes to occupational therapy since the attack. “Everybody says in an emergency, ‘Oh this is what I would do.’ She actually did do it, like real heroes do. She totally saved his life,” said Jack’s mother, who couldn’t express how thankful she was that Molloy protected her son.

Nanny Sacrifices Herself To Protect 3-Year-Old From Dog Attack is an article from: LifeDaily

When one pregnant Oklahoma mom got devastating news about her unborn baby, she was determined to make the best of the tragic situation instead of letting it consume her with grief.

During a routine checkup, doctors discovered Abbey and Robert Ahern’s unborn baby girl had anencephaly, which is a condition that prevented parts of her skull and brain from developing and told them she was ‘incompatible with life.’ “It just sucked the air right out of my lungs, I knew what he was saying, but I couldn’t really apply it to us or to our baby,” Ahern said.

Once the news processed, the first question Ahern had for her doctors was about organ donations. The doctor was shocked by her question since he assumed they would choose to terminate the pregnancy and infant organ donations are extremely rare. After consulting other doctors, Ahern’s doctor approved their plan. “I wanted Annie’s life to ultimately give life to other children,” Ahern said.

“We knew she had a purpose — even though she was not made for this world,” Ahern said about her daughter, who they named Annie, which means grace. Despite her determination, the rest of the pregnancy was incredibly difficult. “We didn’t know how long Annie would survive, but our time would certainly be short. I tried to plan for every possible scenario. Every time a stranger asked when I was due and if I knew if I was having a boy or girl, I died a little more inside… It felt like I lied every time I smiled and didn’t tell them Annie’s story…I am fortunate enough to have an incredibly selfless and supportive husband, a faith that kept me going when I wanted to fall apart, and two healthy and vibrant daughters to hug when I couldn’t stop sobbing.”

Annie was born in June 2013 and lived for 15 hours. “They showed her to me, and she was so beautiful. I remember holding her hands and pressing my face on hers and smelling her. I couldn’t kiss her enough. We were just so happy she was born alive and we were going to get time with our baby girl. It was wonderful.” And when it was time for Annie to go, Ahern told her it was ok and that she loved her. “Annie got to be with us all day, and she was ready… She spent her entire life surrounded by love, joy, and peace. There was no sorrow, even when she passed away.”

Because Ahern decided not to terminate the pregnancy, Annie’s heart valves were donated to other infants and other organs not viable for transplant were donated for research. Since then, Ahern shares Annie’s story to help educate parents about infant organ donation. “Annie’s story is one of hope,” Ahern said. “I think it shows people that in the midst of tragedy, there can be beauty. Annie was not ours to keep — her story was meant to be shared, and I intend to do so until the day I die.”

Mom Carries Terminal Baby To Full Term To Save Other Infants is an article from: LifeDaily

A black Labrador Retriever named Bear suffered the unthinkable; he was chained in the backyard of a home in New York for the past 15 years. 

The non-profit animal organization, Guardians of Rescue, had been out delivering dog houses and food to animals in need when they came across Bear and knew they had to help him. 

They negotiated with Bear’s owner for his freedom, and when all was said and done, a 35lb chain tethered to Bear for the last 15 years was permanently cut away. 

The moment his chain was cut, one rescuer uttered, “You are free Bear. You’re finally free and you will be going to a new life. Hopefully now, Bear can be placed with an older family where he can lie around inside of a home and have a good rest of his life.”

As soon as it was time for Bear to go for his first truck ride, he enjoyed gentle pats on his head and the warmth of the truck. Now, Bear needs a foster home, or even better, a family who will show this dog how sweet life can really be. 

“The Guardians got Bear loaded into the truck yesterday, and headed into his bright happy, future off of a chain. Will you give this gentle, old guy a comfy bed, in a new home with a family who will lavish him with love and attention?,” the men asked on Facebook Tuesday morning.

Dog Forced To Live Outside For 15 Years Attached To A 35-Pound Chain Is Finally Freed is an article from: LifeDaily

Take, for example, the bizarre new class out of Johnston, Iowa, where a mom of three is teaching other parents how to carry double duty… and we don’t mean twins.

Melody Lauer is a self-defense advocate and mom who believes that a woman has every right to carry a firearm and her baby at the same time. On her website, Melody Lauer explains that her courses prepare parents for the worst case scenario of having to use their gun while with their children.

The mom of three is a certified gun safety instructor, who leads the strange three-hour-long workshop called “Babywearing and Carrying,” at the CrossRoads Shooting Sports, according to Today Parents. On her blog, the mom explained that she started carrying a gun to protect herself and continued to as her children were born.

“My child does not yet have the ability, physically, emotionally or legally, to take that responsibility on himself. He is reliant on his mother and his father to provide for him in all areas, including his protection,” she wrote. However, if you’re thinking this mom has it all wrong, Lauer has definitely faced her fair share of flack for her unconventional mothering methods.

“Yes, it is true, children and firearms do not mix, but that does not mean they cannot coexist safely with the proper supervision of parents and the strict adherence to safety rules.”

Gun-Toting Iowa Mom Teaches Parents How To Babywear And Carry is an article from: LifeDaily

Every living thing enters into this world in a different way, each with a unique story ahead.

We can’t pick who we are or where we came from, but thankfully there are many good people out there to help those who are born into less fortunate conditions.

However, when a newborn animal enters the world and they are sick, disabled, or have other serious health problems, it’s not uncommon for them to be left for dead by their parents in the wild… or put to sleep by a shelter if they’re domesticated.

That could have easily been the fate for one tiny kitten who entered this world in a very sad condition with her two siblings.

“It looked like someone shook up kittens parts in a can,” said Laura, the foster parent to a tiny kitten named Pretzel who was brought to Kitten Rescue based in Los Angeles, CA.

Within the first few months of their rescue, only the animals’ external physical disabilities were evident, not the internal ones. Both of Pretzel’s siblings soon died from their conditions.

Pretzel was the lone survivor, but she refused to give up. “Her will to live was strong. Her personality was no different than any other cat. She didn’t care that her legs were useless and she had to crawl to reach laps. What mattered was that she got there.”

“I advocate nakedness around your children, homes and husbands,” Hall wrote in a Facebook post which quickly went viral. “I don’t want my boys’ expectations of women to resemble those that they see in magazines or TV nor do I want my girls’ expectations of themselves too.”

Australian Mom Shares Controversial Post About Being Naked With Her Kids is an article from: LifeDaily

Most expecting moms spend their pregnancy preparing for their baby’s impending arrival by setting up a nursery, buying tiny infant clothes, and baby proofing the house.

One Iowa mom, however, spent the months before her daughter’s birth planning a funeral and trying to prepare herself for the moment she’d have to say goodbye to her little girl since doctors told them the baby wouldn’t live longer than two hours after birth.

When mom Autumn Dunn was a few months into her pregnancy with baby Fiona Grace, doctors told her and her husband that there was no chance she would be born healthy since the baby had Holoprosencephaly Semilobar or HPE, a condition where the front lobe never separates. The baby also had an enlarged heart and problems with her liver and a vessel.

“One of the last visits, there was fluid on her brain and that a portion of her brain was just missing because of it,” said Dunn. “If she did make it to labor, it would make her heart stop, and she would die.” Doctors suggested she terminate the pregnancy, but Dunn wouldn’t do it. “Just a few days before, we had my mom’s funeral. So my dad and I were planning on buying two plots so that they could be next to each other. The doctors gave me the option to terminate the pregnancy, but I knew that wasn’t an option for me.”

On January 3, the terrifying pregnancy finally came to an end and baby Fiona was born without making a sound. “It was terrifying. And then I heard her first cry, and I just knew. I just knew she’d be okay,” says Dunn. “They were wrong.” Baby Fiona was breathing on her own, hear heart was beating strong, and her brain showed no sign of HPE. Two hours came and went, and baby Fiona was still as strong as ever.

“She’s a miracle,” Dunn said about Fiona, who had her first surgery shortly after birth to drain a cyst on her brain and is now doing well at home. “We went from thinking we were going to have to plan her funeral too, we get to bring her home, and she’s healthy for the most part… She’s proven time and time again that she can take it. She’s so strong.”

Fiona still has plenty of hurdles to face, but Dunn is confident that her little miracle will continue to defy the odds. “You have to keep following your heart and your faith. It’s the only thing that got me through,” says Dunn.

Baby Who Was Only Supposed To Survive 2 Hours Is Now 2 Weeks Old is an article from: LifeDaily

Police and Military dogs are fiercely brave and fiercely loyal to their partners. So when one Indiana police officer was about to be shot, his K-9 partner didn’t hesitate to jump in the way and take the bullet for him.

This past week, Lake County Police Officer Chris Vukin and his K-9 partner Blade made a routine traffic stop in the middle of the afternoon. However, when they got out of the police cruiser and approached the car, a passenger ran out of the vehicle.

Vukin and Blade chased after the suspect, who turned down and alley and open fired on the two once they turned the corner. Blade fearlessly ran to the suspect and was shot in the face before Vukin managed to shoot the man. “He grabbed the weapon and he saved the officer’s life. There’s no doubt about it. He took the bullet for the officer,” Lake County Sheriff John Buncich said.

Blade, who has worked for the department for four years, was rushed to a local animal hospital and then the Purdue Veterinary Hospital where they performed surgery to remove the bullet fragments from his jaw. According to the department, Blade is now doing well and had to have a second surgery to repair his broken jaw.

“Blade did well today and saved his partner’s life and we are thankful both are ok,” the Lake County K9 Association wrote in an update.

Police K-9 Takes A Bullet For Human Partner And Survives is an article from: LifeDaily

Good dog owners usually bring their four-legged companions straight to the vet the minute they realize something is wrong. Stray dogs, on the other hand, are often left to suffer from their condition for months or even years before being rescued and treated.

So when a stray dog in Greece started developing a tumor in her neck, she was forced to live with it for months without treatment. And by the time rescuers did find her, the tumor had grown so large that she was in constant pain and it made it impossible for her to even lift her head up.

The poor stray named Agnes wandered the streets of Karditsa, Greece for six months looking for help. However, while a few showed her kindness and fed her, many other tried to chase her away with sticks or shooting her with guns. Thankfully, a kind villager spotted Agnes and reached out to the Greek Animal Rescue, who rushed over to rescue her.

The 7-year-old was initially afraid of the rescue team, but once she realized they only wanted to help, she happily went with them to the vet, who performed immediate surgery to remove the four-pound tumor. After the surgery, Agnes’ posture immediately improved and she couldn’t stop smiling.

Agnes stayed in the rescue’s care for three more months to recover from additional surgeries to heal from gunshot wounds and remove other tumors in her chest. However, when she was finally healthy, she was adopted by a loving family in England.

Stray Dog Is Freed From Massive Tumor Hanging Off Her Neck is an article from: LifeDaily

Dogs are incredibly resilient animals, yet when one UK veterinarian laid eyes on a Cocker Spaniel that had been impaled by a piece of metal, no one thought the poor dog would survive.

When dog owner Jo-Ann Keen watched her dog Dave wander into a bush, he was perfectly healthy, When he walked out, however, there was a rusty, 18-inch metal stake poking through the left side of his neck and coming out beside his right elbow.

Keen was convinced Dave was going to die, and when the veterinarian team at McMurty & Harding saw the eight-year-old dog, they figured he wouldn’t last much longer. Yet when they looked at an x-ray, they were stunned to see that the spike miraculously missed all the vital organs and blood vessels. The only real damage was to the esophagus.

“He was very lucky. Everybody thought he was going to die, because they didn’t know what it had hit, if anything,”Keen said. “To say he was a brave dog was a bit of an understatement,” said veterinary nurse Karen Mackin. “The stake had actually pierced him through the left side of his neck and came out behind his right elbow. After giving Dave fluid therapy and pain relief, he was anaesthetised and a series of X-rays revealed that despite the horrific sight of the spike piercing his body, it missed organs that would have killed him outright had they been struck. Fortunately, the damage was much less than it could have been.”

“However, there was some damage to the dog’s esophagus which meant he was not able to take food or water,” Mackin said. The team placed a stomach tube to feed and hydrate Dave for about two weeks until his throat healed enough to start eating and drinking on his own. Since receiving treatment, which cost Keen £2,000 or almost $2,500 USD, Dave has made a complete recovery. “Throughout it all, he remained a happy and affectionate patient,” Mackin said.

Dog Makes Full Recovery After Being Impaled With Metal Spike is an article from: LifeDaily

Usually, when shelters and animal rescuers take abused animals into their care, they can immediately detect physical and emotional scarring that’s been left behind from the cruel abuse or neglect.

Yet when a worker from the New South Wales Animal Welfare League picked up a Kelpie cross named Molly from the pound, they had no information about her medical history but didn’t expect to run into any issues since she seemed like such a sweet and healthy animal.

“I fell in love with her because I love these types of dogs. They kind of look like your old farm dog. She was lovely, a little bit timid, but very sweet and very affectionate,” said Erika Pankhurst, the AWL animal behaviorist that picked Molly up from the pound.

They planned to find Molly a forever home after getting a routine checkup, yet shortly after dropping her off at the vet, she received an urgent call telling her she needed to see Molly’s x-ray. “I just looked and it was I was like ‘I’ve never seen anything like this before. It was quite upsetting because she is so lovely. It makes me so upset that someone could do something so horrible to such a lovely dog, or to any dog.”

Rescuers Find A Hundred Metal Bullets Inside Sweet Dog is an article from: LifeDaily

While it’s one of the greatest joys a person can experience in life, being a parent can also be a challenge. And it can be hard enough to trust yourself to do the right thing all the time for your kids, let alone a complete stranger.

That’s why most parents will go above and beyond to make sure the best possible caretakers are supervising their children. Trusting a stranger isn’t easy, but the following story proves that even a background check and job recommendations are sometimes not enough to keep the wrong people out of a childcare position.

CBS New York reports that a Long Island family’s worst nightmare came true when their son’s sitter was caught on their “nanny cam” using a beauty tool as a weapon. Police reported 21-year-old nanny Nosipho Nxumalo was filmed using a hot curling to punish and disciple 3-year-old Alexander “Xander” Persaud.

“She pulled out the curling iron several times. She heated it up,” the victim’s mother, Angela Persaud, told CBS News. “You see her showing him that it’s going to be hot, and, ‘I’m going to use it on you.’ You see her yelling at him. You see her grab him a few times.”

The Persauds were at work when the incident occurred and said they installed the nanny cam after the toddler told them Nxumalo was burning him. “It took my husband and me a while to get pregnant in the first place, and he is honestly a gift to us, and I’ve done everything I could possibly do — at least thought I did — to ensure that he has the best life possible, right?” Persaud said. “And to know I allowed someone into my house who was basically torturing my son for a full hour.”

The nanny has since been arrested for assault, child endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.

Nanny Cam Catches Sitter Burning Toddler With Curling Iron is an article from: LifeDaily

They say with every great tragedy comes a glimmer of hope for the future. Sometimes it can be very difficult to see that everything happens for a reason in life, but in the end, things tend to work out exactly how they should.

That’s what heroic first responders in Salt Lake City, Utah are trying to believe after saving a baby girl from an unthinkable tragedy.

“As we get into the river we hear an adult female voice that said, ‘help me help me,’” Spanish Fork Police Officer Tyler Beddoes said to Fox 13 of the unforgettable he and fellow first responders found a car submerged in the Spanish Fork River.

In fact, all four of the responding officers said they heard the voice, but when they approached the red car to flip it, it was clear that the woman inside had been dead four hours.

However, by some miracle from above, her 18-month-old daughter Lily Grosbeck was hanging upside down, only partially submerged in the icy waters, still alive and breathing.

“I was in such a dark spot before this river rescue,” Beddoes said to Fox 13. “I believe it was an angel that guided us to Lily that day,” adding that there’s no other explanation for the incredible rescue.

“Now I see the possibilities in life and I know that God has a hand in these things and the angels are out there helping us,” he said.

First Responders Say Angel Led Them To Rescue 18-Month-Old Miracle Baby From River is an article from: LifeDaily

After a lifetime of loneliness and solitude on the streets, one dog finally felt a human’s touch for the very first time.

We’ve seen plenty of stories like this one about the importance of a mother, father or even a twin’s loving touch, can have such great effects on a newborn and it turns out that things are not very early different in the animal kingdom.

That’s why when a homeless dog living in a pile of trash was reported to the amazing California-based canine rescue organization Hope For Paws, they knew they would have to be very careful approaching the matted, dirty, and terrified dog, who had likely never had any interaction with humans.

However, the following story proves that even an animal who has never felt another living being’s loving touch is capable of overcoming the worst in life. Although rescuers first feared the worst for Miley, she completely shocked them with her transformation.

“Many people see themselves in these dogs,” Hope For Paws founder Eldad Hagar said to NY Daily News. “If a person is in that vulnerable place and they look at Miley and they see the transformation they can see there’s hope and things get better.”

Dog Living In Trash Pile Completely Changes When She’s Finally Rescued is an article from: LifeDaily

When the amazing rescue organization Animal Aid Unlimited of India received an urgent call on their helpline that a dog had been hit by a train, they rushed to help. 

Unsure of what they were walking into, when they saw a dog laying there, unable to move, and his limbs hanging off, they were devastated. Animal Aid wrote on their YouTube page, “we had never before rescued a dog so horrifically injured…with broken hearts, we thought we had to put him to sleep.” 

“But despite the enormous challenges ahead, we knew we had to let love be our guide,” they continued. 

When rescuers brought the canine in, they learned three of his limbs were completely crushed and he would need urgent amputation.  

The surgery lasted five hours, and doctors and nurses fought to save this beautiful dog’s life.

They named the dog Deepak and explained that it took six months for him to recover, which is a much longer recovery than many of the rescues we’ve seen. 

But, after six months, Deepak was a new dog. He is unable to walk too well, but Deepak enjoys swimming in the pool and playing with other dogs, who are just like him. 

One of the rescuers from the organization explains that while others may view disabled dogs differently, they don’t view themselves as being any different. They enjoying playing, spending time with other dogs, and also the humans who put 24 hours a day into caring for them.

Rescue organization Animal Aid Unlimited of India received a call about a street dog suffering from a brutal injury to her head and rushed to her side.

Somehow, the dog managed to crawl into a garden before collapsing, but when Animal Aid arrived at the scene, they thought she was dead…

For two weeks, the canine, who they named Happy, was disoriented and slept almost the whole time. 

“We were afraid the trauma had caused permanent brain damage,” they wrote on their YouTube page. 

However, during Happy’s third week of treatment, her health was finally turning around and she had made an amazing breakthrough!

After she was treated for her wounds and received around the clock care from Animal Aid, Happy was finally back on her feet and loving life.

Today, Happy is just as her name would suggest, a “happy,” playful, vibrant dog. If it wasn’t for the help of this incredible rescue organization, this poor dog would have probably died alone in that garden. 

Thankfully, they couldn’t let that happen, and Happy is a new dog today!

In the depths of an ancient temple, a critically-injured puppy found shelter and appeared to be praying for help…

Rescue organization Animal Aid Unlimited of India found the injured dog there, sitting upright in the corner of the temple.

It was clear the dog was in dire need of help and rescuers reassured him that he was going to be ok.

A rescuer lifted the dog’s lifeless body and carried him to the truck where they would head back to the shelter. 

The medical staff immediately tended to the dog and he was in too much pain to even resist it. He must have known his prayers had been answered.

Medical staff discovered he lost so much blood that he was very dehydrated and needed IV fluid for several days before he stabilized. 

They dressed his deep wounds for four weeks and watched him grow stronger every day. They named the tiny survivor Punkin, and if you saw him now, he’s almost unrecognizable.

When Puppy Thought No One Was Coming To Save Him, He Went In A Temple To Pray For Help is an article from: LifeDaily

When rescuers find sick or abused stray animals, they’ve often lost their will to survive and have completely given up hope that they’ll recover.

However, when a veterinarian from Spain and her friend discovered a starving dog with a broken leg scavenging for food, they were stunned to see how determined she was to survive since many dogs in her condition would have already given up.

Yet once veterinarian Ellen Sobry and her friend Lianne got a closer look at the dog, they immediately realized why she was fighting so hard to survive. The skinny Greyhound was lactating, which meant she had recently had puppies.

“After giving her first treatments and stabilizing her broken leg we took her back to where she was found because we saw she was producing milk so somewhere she had puppies,” Sobry wrote in a post on Facebook.

Once back at the spot where they found the dog, which they named Vera, Sobry released her and just watched what she would do. Vera immediately started walking and her rescuers followed her for a little over two miles until they reached an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere.

Vera finally stopped walking when she reached an old broken down car, and when Sobry looked inside, she discovered the babies waiting inside. “10 little lives waiting for their mum,” Sobry wrote. Vera and her tiny puppies are now recovering in Sobry’s clinic and she hopes to eventually find them a forever home. “They are safe now.”

While on a hike with his nine-year-old pet spaniel, a man from the UK decided to play fetch with a rock he found on the ground since he knew how much his dog loved the game. However, he quickly realized why it’s incredibly dangerous to play fetch on top of a mountain range.

Like most dogs, Woody focused on nothing but the small stone his owner had just thrown, and when the stone accidentally rolled too far off the cliff, he dove after it not realizing how steep the drop was. Woody fell 600 feet off of the Pen y Fan cliff, which is they highest peak in Brecon Beacons mountain range in South Wales. The mountain’s rescue team arrived shortly after he reached the summit, but by that time Woody was no longer moving.

At first, the rescue team feared Woody was dead, but once they got close enough they were stunned to see he actually survived. “Woody was one of the best-behaved casualties we have brought off the mountain, rescuer David Grant said. The team still worried Woody had injured his spine or had internal injuries so carefully put him in a stretcher and carried him to safety. “He was very well behaved, grateful, light to carry and didn’t complain once.”

Miraculously, Woody survived the deadly fall with just a broken tail and a few small cuts. He was brought home a few days later to recuperate.
