Biker Miraculously Survives 250-Foot Fall Off Cliff

No matter how much experience you have on a motorcycle, they are incredibly dangerous machines to drive. Recently, one California man learned that lesson the hard way after an afternoon ride nearly ended his life.

While riding his motorcycle through the Santa Monica mountains in Calabasas, California, 27-year-old Matthew Murray lost control while going just over 40 miles per hour and drove straight off a 250-foot cliff. “It processed immediately in my head that, you’re going to die,” Murray said.

“I was only doing, like, 40 miles per hour and I went to lean into this turn and this bike would not let lean,” Murray said about the fall, which was all captured on his GoPro that was mounted on his bike. Miraculously, Murray survived the fall and started calling out for help.

However, because no one would ever find him in the remote ravine and he couldn’t reach his bike to get his cell phone, Murray had to climb back up the hill with broken bones. “I really had no choice but to climb,” said Murray, who flagged someone down once he made it to the top and called 911.

“They just said people have to fight or flight, or whatever it is, and I just decided to fight. Honestly, my legs were done so I just kind of crawled up, and once I made it to the top I just collapsed,” Murray said. “There’s your bike and that’s where you landed, 250 feet down there,” a first responder said. “The last guy I saw come out of here was in a basket and got a helicopter ride.”

Recently, New York firefighters risked their lives to save a puppy from a burning apartment, However, when two firemen heard what the owners planned to do with the injured puppy, they decided that their lifesaving work wasn’t over.

On Aug. 3, the City of Newburgh Fire Department in New York were called to put out a fire on the second floor of a three-story apartment building. After residents of the unit evacuated their apartment, they told the firemen that their two puppies were trapped inside.

“We kept it from spreading but two puppies were missing. I went in to search for the puppies and checked the whole front rooms,” Lt. Timothy Dexter said. Within a few minutes, another firefighter found the first puppy “He handed it to me. I ran it out and we tried giving it CPR. It did not survive,” Dexter said.

The crew decided to check for the second puppy in the room where the fire started. “We entered the room and my captain said nothing would have survived in here. I agreed,”Lt. Anthony Muhammad said. “The dog started whimpering almost like he heard of us talking.”

“The bed … protected him somehow,” Dexter said. “He was burnt. We gave him oxygen and wet him down.” The puppy’s owners then explained they no longer wanted him since they couldn’t provide the care he would need. Dexter and fellow fireman Jimmy Moore stepped up to co-adopt him since they live minutes from each other.

The puppy, who they named Titus, was diagnosed with first- and second-degree burns on his entire body, but is doing well after two weeks and is expected to make a full recovery. “He’s doing alright. He walks a little funny because he got some burns on his paws. He’s healing up,” Dexter said. “It’s great for Titus. I don’t know what life Titus would have had but after this I know he’ll have a great life.”

Hope For Paws was notified of a stray dog who wandered into a yard and then collapsed.

Along with Hope For Paws founder, Eldad Hagar, Loreta Frankonyte responded to the call and rushed to the location to look for the helpless dog. When they found him, he was laying on the ground and while he was responsive, the dog was clearly in some distress.

Hagar named the dog Milo and wrote on YouTube, “Milo showed his teeth to warn me that he was in a lot of pain.”

They then created a makeshift gurney to transport Milo to the car and luckily he was cooperative and he must have known they were there to help him. Hagar and Frankonyte scanned Milo for a microchip, and when nothing turned up, they brought him to the hospital to figure out what was wrong.

X-rays revealed Milo did not have any broken bones, but he did have a serious infection. The doctor removed a significant amount of pus from Milo’s shoulder and determined that he was suffering from a bite-wound. “After getting pain meds, antibiotics, and a bath, Milo started feeling better,” Hope For Paws wrote on their YouTube channel.

“The recovery process was long, but Milo is a trooper and he is now happy to receive affection. Even with a bandage, Milo transformed into a happy, playful dog,” they continued.

Thanks to Hope For Paws and Cause for SB Paws, Milo was able to find a loving forever home! According to Milo’s new family, his loving nature has brought newline and happiness to their adopted older dog, Grace.

A family trip to an Alaskan campsite almost turned deadly when a mother black bear attacked their Siberian husky.

The video of the encounter was posted to YouTube by Tom Henderson and it shows the fluffy white husky refusing to back down from the black bear, whose cub was also yards away.

The mother black bear charges at the dog next to the owner’s camper at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Then…

The bear and the husky got into a brief fight off-camera and Henderson’s wife is heard yelling in the background for the bear to get away. “Get out of here. Go, go, go!” she shouts.

The bear runs off into the woods with her three cubs after just a few moments and the husky appears in the video again, showing it was unharmed by the encounter.

Henderson says his dog was not injured and did not even require veterinary care. He said the same bear wandered into a residence a few days after the incident and was put down by authorities.

When a Nevada resident spotted a family of black bears trying to break into a house, his nephew decided to do something very unusual to ward them off.

A video posted to YouTube by ALB Tahoe shows the mother bear and her three cubs trying to find a way into a garage in Incline Village, on the shore of Lake Tahoe.

The mother begins gnawing at the wood on the garage trying to eat her way in. The homeowner’s nephew, Mike Perroud, then safely inside a car, starts to play the violin for the bears.

Initially, the bears seem to ignore the music, but eventually, it appears to have a calming influence on them. Finally, the soft music encourages the black bears to leave the area. The man filming the video believes the music convinced the bears to “chill out.”

“We happened upon this family of black bears in Incline Village, Lake Tahoe when our nephew, Mike Perroud begin to play his violin in an attempt to deter them from breaking into this vacant home,” ALB Tahoe wrote on YouTube.

Pit Bulls Rescue Young Kids From Deadly Copperhead Snake

A Florida grandma said her protective pit bulls are to thank for saving her two young grandchildren from an attack by a deadly copperhead snake.

Melissa Butt says her grandchildren, Zayden, 4, and Mallory, 1, were playing in the backyard  when her dogs, Slayer, and Paco ran over to the kids in a hurry. The pit bulls jumped between the children after they spotted a copperhead snake in the grass.

Credit: wfla.com

The dogs barked repeatedly for the snake to leave, which unfortunately caused the copperhead to get more upset and strike! Butt says that the pit bulls defeated the snake, but not before Slayer was bitten twice in the face and Paco suffered a bite to the elbow.

Butt immediately rushed her dogs to the Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners Hospital. “We need to get the anti-venom…quickly, in order for them to get a good prognosis. It is very, very painful,” Dr. Shelby Loos told WFLA-TV. “We give them medicine for pain and make them as comfortable as possible. But, we have to act fast.”

Credit: wfla.com

Butt has been worried about raising enough money to cover the cost of her dogs’ care. “They don’t ask for anything. All they want is your love, so it’s very hard to see them in need, and not be able to do a whole lot for them,” Butt told WTVJ-TV.

To help out, animal rescue group Frankie’s Friends stepped in with some emergency fundraising that covered the cost of the dogs’ treatment. “I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude to Blue Pearl and Frankie’s Friends. I don’t know what I would’ve done without them,” Butt said. Paco has since recovered fully and is back at home, while Slayer is still at the animal hospital.

Man Survives Being Struck By Lightning

The odds of getting struck by lightning in a person’s lifetime is pretty small, but for those who have been struck by lightning, the chance of survival is even slimmer.

So when doctors from the Tampa General Hospital Burn Unit saw 21-year-old Austin Dunn after he was struck by lightning, they were amazed that he survived. While working out on the runway at the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers last month, a bolt of lightning struck the tail of a plane that Dunn had been walking underneath.

When the lightning struck the plane, Dunn was also hit and knocked off of his feet. “He tells us when he was laying there after being struck, that he couldn’t feel anything from the neck down and struggled to stay awake. He said he was kept awake by his ‘Poppy’ Mike Dunn until help arrived. His Poppy passed away 10 months ago from cancer,” Dunn’s father said.

Dunn was rushed to the hospital with third-degree burns all over his body, but doctors were amazed he even survived. “Austin is suffering from skin grafting and nerve damage in his heart and brain. A hole in his foot, exit wound, and the nightmares, we need to work on now,” his father said.

Dunn has a long recovery ahead of him, but thankfully his hand, which was injured from the exit wound, will not have to be amputated. “We want to thank the thousands of texts, emails and messages sent from friends, family and strangers, even people actually on that flight. So many prayer chains, and even the GoFundMe set up for him.  Without your prayers we are not sure he would be here. Please continue to pray for his recovery.  Doctors tell us he is nothing short of a ‘Miracle,’ we believe that ‘Miracle’ was all of your prayers!” his father said.

Over the past few days, heavy rain in India and Nepal has lead to dangerous flooding that killed at least 15 people and forced 2.3 million people to flee while they can.

According to Nepali relief workers, 26 of the country’s 75 districts were experiencing flooding or landslides from the heavy rain. And while 15 people have already been killed and 60,000 homes are underwater, Information and Communications Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet expects the damage to get much worse.

Thankfully, no other stranded locals or tourists in Sauraha, Nepal lost their lives when an unlikely hero came to rescue them. After a nearby river started overflowing, elephants from the Chitwan National Park came to the village and started transporting around 600 people to safety through the deep flood waters that would have been impossible for people to navigate on foot.

Mothers would do absolutely anything to protect their children from danger, so when one New York mom realized a massive 75-foot tall tree was about to crush her young children, she was ready to sacrifice herself to save them.

Earlier this week, 39-year-old Anne Monoky Goldman was out for a morning walk with her three young sons and her 41-day-old baby in New York’s Central Park. “All of a sudden we heard a branch cracking and it turned out to be this giant tree falling on her and her kids,” a bystander said.

Monoky Goldman realized her kids were about to be crushed so she used her body to shield them as much as possible, “She was lying on her back, the stroller was off a couple of feet in front of her, that was also twisted up in the branches,” said Joseph Tomeo of the NYPD Mounted Unit. Monoky Goldman suffered a fractured vertebrae and was in critical condition at the scene but is expected to survive. Her kids, however, have only minor injuries thanks to her bravery.

“It’s a little more emotional when children are involved, especially since a lot of us have children of our own. I have a son the same age as the 2-year-old, so it was definitely heartbreaking to see this,” mounted police officer Megan O’Leary said. Despite the upsetting scene, police and good Samaritans acted quickly to lift the tree off Monoky Goldman and comfort her kids.

Man Rescues Kittens Trapped Inside CAT Construction Loader

One Utah-based landscaping company uses CAT construction machinery on most of their jobs, so the crew knows exactly how the machines work and how they’re supposed to sound.

After a long day of work, 31-year-old Jose Arias, owner of Green Forest Landscaping, heard a strange noise coming from inside the CAT construction loader. The noise didn’t sound like a mechanical issue, but sounded like an animal was trapped inside the machine.

Photo by Facebook/Ashley Valley Community Cats

Arias called over five crew members and had them help him take apart the front of the machine since he was afraid an animal was trapped inside. About 20 minutes later, the crew managed to take apart the machine and discovered six three-week-old kittens.

“It’s not something you see every day — cats inside a CAT,” Arias said. “We don’t know how long they were in there, but it must have been awfully noisy and bumpy. My first thought was, ‘OK, now what? I don’t even have one cat. What am I going to do with six?”

Photo by Facebook/Ashley Valley Community Cats

Arias took the kittens home that night and called a local animal rescue group. However, when he got to work the next morning, he heard the mewing sound again. “We took apart the CAT loader again and there it was: one more kitten,” Arias said. “We’re not sure how we missed it the first time. We’re thinking that maybe the mother cat put the seventh kitten in the loader that night after we’d taken out the other cats.”

Arias brought the seven kittens to volunteers at the Ashley Valley Community Cats Rescue Center, who went back to the area and caught the kittens’ mother. “It’s not often that we’re surprised in the rescue world,” said Audrey Moulton, Utah County coordinator for the rescue group. “We like to think we’ve seen it all. But we were shocked to receive a call about a litter of kittens found inside a CAT machine that had been in use for most of the day.”

Postman Donates Over 100 Gallons Of His Blood And Saves Thousands Of Lives

For the past 34 years, postal worker Marcos Perez spends two hours donating his blood every two weeks at the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center.

According to KENS-TV, Perez donates platelets, a blood component that allows him to donate more often than if he were donating whole blood or double red blood cells. Perez does it to save lives, saying, “They might live an extra day, a year, a month, who knows. Maybe they will live forever. Don’t cost me a dime, only some time. I’m 57 and I’ve already got 100 gallons!”

Credit: South Texas Blood & Tissue Center

Perez explains that he donates blood because he was born a premature baby, and needed a blood transfusion. “When I was growing up, my dad told me a friend of his donated blood for me,” Perez said. “His name was Mr. Aguilar. He took the time to donate, so he saved my life.” Ever since someone was kind enough to donate blood for him, he has decided to return the favor.

Perez is the fourth person in South Texas to pass the 100-gallon mark and this milestone comes at a crucial time for the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, as they tend to see a decline in blood donations during the summer months. “Mr. Perez is what you’d consider an All Star for the blood community here in South Texas,” said Roger Ruiz, a corporate communications specialist for the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC). “Mr. Perez has probably saved patients going through cancer treatments, patients who have been in car accidents, patients who have blood disorders.”

Credit: KENS-TV

On Wednesday, family members and employees at STBTC celebrated the big milestone for Perez as he joins the ranks with Ron White, who donated his 115th of blood last week.

Perez says he doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon and he told KENS-TV: “If you make time to go eat, you make time to go to the movies, you can make time to come donate,” Perez said. “Just make some time. Give from the heart. That’s what it takes. You gotta give from the heart.”

Llama Reunited With Its Owners Thanks To Social Media Post

Police in Connecticut are using social media to reunite a missing llama with its owners.

The Granby Police Department shared a photo on their Twitter of a large, brown llama with a purple leash around its neck and asked for the missing llama’s owner to come forward. “If you are missing this, please contact the Granby Police,” the department said. “No, we are not kidding.”

While most of the internet probably thought this was a joke, the Granby Police Department was very serious. Granby Animal Control first learned that a llama was wandering in the area of Notch Road at about 8:30 am on Saturday.

According to the Hartford Courant, a local veterinarian inspected the llama and police later brought it to a resident familiar with fostering llamas. Luckily, the department’s public plea proved successful as police announced that four hours after the post was published on Twitter, the owner had claimed the llama. “The Llama Drama is over,” police said. “Animal has been reunited with owner.”

We have no information on the owners of this llama, but we do know that they are probably ecstatic to have their beloved “pet” back.

A pair of Texas fisherman noticed a calf stranded in the water in Lake Conroe on Saturday morning.

The men imagined the calf was unable to get out of the water due to a bulkhead blocking its exit, so they quickly leaped into action to help the poor cow.

Credit: Scott Engle/YouTube

According to the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constables, the two fishermen, Ben Breckenridge and Zach Smith, jumped into the water with the calf to keep it from wandering into deeper areas while they contacted the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Montgomery County dispatch.

When Texas Game Warden Brannon Meinkowsky and Constable Lake Unit Lt. Cade arrived at the scene, they helped the fisherman identify an area where there wasn’t a bulkhead so the calf could safely get out.

Breckenridge and Smith then tied ropes around the calf and used them to keep the animal afloat next to their boat and they transported it to the safer area. They were able to untie the rope once they reached shallow water and the calf was able to get out of the water on her own.

The determination these two fisherman showed was incredible and their quick-thinking saved the life of this young cow.

While most kids learn to walk anywhere from 9 to 17 months old, one Illinois mom thought her son, born with cerebral palsy might never get to walk without the help of a walker or cane.

Despite his determination to walk, three-year-old Dalton struggled to get around on his own, and his mom, Lacey Dwyer, thought her son might never walk without assistance. “Dalton’s super determined, but when he first started going to therapy before we had the surgery, it was a struggle. He would cry the whole session,” Dwyer said.

To help Dalton gain some independence, doctors suggested they perform a rare spinal surgery called selective dorsal rizotomy to remove nerve fibers in his spinal cord that weren’t responding. “Before, he was crawling around or walking on his knees,” Lacey said.

After healing from surgery, Dalton started physical therapy to help him walk. “Now, he’s getting up and walking to the bedroom, to the restroom. He’s proud. You can see how proud he is,” Lacey said.  “Our 8-year-old daughter is a huge help. She’ll hold his hand and they’ll walk together or they’ll play games.”

It’s been eight months since the miracle surgery, and Dalton is walking better than ever. “He doesn’t walk all over the place yet, just when we’re at home he can walk on his own, so that’s our biggest milestone,” Lacey said. “We feel pretty good. Our long-term goal is always to have independence for Dalton. We want him to grow up like any other kid and be able to go to college, get married, have kids.”

The boy’s parents told rescuers they only left their child alone momentarily and when they returned they found he had apparently tried to reach up for his toy and his hand became stuck inside the machine.

The parents quickly determined they couldn’t free their son’s hand on their own and that’s when they called firefighters in to help. The fire crew spent about 10 minutes taking apart the machine to free the boy’s hand.

Thankfully, the child walked away from the incident without any serious injuries but he did go to the hospital in Sihong County, Jiangsu Province, as a precaution.

It is uncertain whether the boy was able to at least get a free toy after the ordeal.

“I think it’s more like 41 going on 14,” the sanctuary added. Foxie received dozens of new dolls to choose from which the zoo piled up on a platform lining the ropes of her enclosure.

According to the Dodo, Foxie was rescued from a laboratory that was developing vaccines for hepatitis and she was bred but was never able to care for her offspring. Sanctuary staff even say that Foxie carries dolls around on her back, the same way she might carry a baby chimp.

Besides her toys and treats, Foxie enjoyed hanging upside down from the greenhouse ceiling while kicking her feet and carrying her watermelon bowl around the grounds.

“Foxie is such a special soul bringing joy, comfort, love, and shenanigans to the lives of us all,” the sanctuary said.

A tourist in Mexico recently filmed the moment he rescued a massive sea turtle after it was flipped over on its back and got stuck.

According to the video posted on YouTube, Steve Booker thought the sea turtle was dead until she started blinking her eyes. “I had to help!” Booker wrote. He believes he must have crossed the road and fell off from above. “She was bleeding from her nose a little and her shell was cracked. I’m sure she will heal up just fine. I hope so,” Booker recalled.

In the rescue video, Booker flipped the turtle over on its back and made sure to follow her all the way back to the ocean. You also hear him say in the video that the turtle may have climbed up to the top of the road to lay her eggs.

As the video rolled, the sea turtle struggled to make it to the ocean and Booker noticed her shell was cracked on top. The turtle picked up some speed and Booker cheered her on the whole time saying, “Get back to the water, you can do it!”

After seven minutes, the turtle finally made it into the ocean just in time for a perfect sunrise!
