7 Things We Believe in Our 20’s That Aren’t True
Our 20’s are a huge period of change, growth, and learning. However, no amount of time in the classroom can prepare you for all the challenges that await you as you attempt to navigate life as a ‘real person’.
There are a lot of opportunities to get things right, as well as opportunities to get things wrong. The key is to avoid believing in false ideas about what your 20’s should be like and instead focus on becoming the best version of yourself.
7. Everyone has to like you.
While it’s always important to be polite and respectful of the people around you, not everyone has to like you. This feeling might be especially hard to lose if you move away for a job to a new city where you don’t know anyone, but it’s impossible to please everyone and a nightmare to try to. Just try to be yourself, and friends will come naturally.
6. Any mistake you make will impact your future.
We will all at some point make a mistake, and while some might feel like you’ve just destroyed your life, it’s important to learn from it. Just remember that one wrong choice won’t ruin your life, and that the only thing you can do is make sure to be better next time.
5. Performing well in college means you’ll be good at work.
Our entire schooling career instills a belief in us that what you do at one level will directly impact your next step. Do well in middle school to get into a good high school, and do well in high school to do well in college, and so on. However, just because you were a great student doesn’t mean you’re a shoe-in in the professional world. Sure being intelligent is important, but that won’t guarantee you’ll get the job you want right away or that you’r the best person for a position. And that’s ok because you’ll find you’re place eventually.
4. Getting a job rejection is the worst thing in the world.
Most twenty-somethings avoid rejection like the plague, but in reality a job rejection or being fired can be a good thing. Sure, it sucks when things don’t work out as you plan, but if you look at it from a different perspective you’ll see that this is an opportunity to learn from your mistakes, and an opportunity to do something even more fulfilling.
3. You will be healthy later.
There’s a reason why people say ‘old habits die hard’. You’re college diet of alcohol, junk food, soda, and no sleep is going to catch up with you, and the longer you wait to make some changes, the harder it will be to get back in shape. When we’re younger, those bad habits don’t effect us as much, however as we get older, our body can’t compensate for inadequate nutrition and inactivity.Habits take a long time to build so it’s important to establish a healthy lifestyle and healthy habits now.
2. You need to discover your dream career before doing it.
So many people think that you need to know exactly what you want to do and then get that job, however, career paths don’t work that way. Instead, focus on gaining experience and developing your skills, so that when the job of your dreams comes your way you’re prepared for it.
1. You need to have life figured out.
We put so much pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out, but the truth is most people never really have everything figured out, and that’s a good thing otherwise life would be boring. It’s important to remember that everyone works in different paces, so don’t freak out if your best friend already has the job of their dreams. Your 20’s is a time to make mistakes, grow, and experience everything that life has to offer.

The Struggles of Every Person Who Hates Summer
Summer is upon us, friends, and while everybody is doing cartwheels and frolicking in a field of lilies, you’re dreading it. You’re already looking up the weekly forecasts and marking down which days you will be confined to the realms of air-conditioned bliss. Nobody seems to understand your pain. It’s like they like summer or something.
All your friends are rejoicing in the heat of summer, like their life is a movie.
And there are all those terribly peppy songs on the radio about how great summer is.
There’s only one summertime song you can relate to
But you’re feeling the days heat up and remembering the cold with yearning loneliness.
Now you have to deal with humidity turning you into a giant puff ball every morning.
There’s allergies and pollen.
And of course the HEAT!
Whenever somebody asks you how you’re doing…
Sometimes, the weather report will fake you out with promise of cool air and then pull a 90º day out of nowhere.
Trying to fall asleep at night is impossible because there is no cool side of the pillow.
And if you share a bed with somebody, forget it.
It’s like the bed magically shrinks in the heat.
The heat makes you sleepy and you want nothing more than to nap at work.
When you do manage to find air conditioning, it’s glorious.
You’ll hang out with somebody just to use their AC.
You’d rather deal with Winter at its worst, than Summer at its best.
But don’t worry, Autumn is only 3 months away.

7 Ways To Change Your Life in 10 Minutes Or Less
Feeling down in the dumps? Need to refocus? Or are you just so content with your life that you feel stuck and stagnant?
Most of these things can be easily fixed if we stop focusing on the final destination of our lives, and start focusing on right now and what we can do today to achieve our ultimate goal.
LifeDaily shares 7 Ways To Change Your Life in Ten Minutes Or Less:
1. Go outside
Stepping outside to get some fresh air can really revive your mood. If the sun is out, you will get a quick boost of Vitamin D that will do wonders for you. Make it a point to go outside regularly, but especially if you are feeling “blah,” or need a quick break.
2. Declutter
Clutter can rob you of all of your energy that you need to live your best life. Spending just a few minutes a day decluttering the spaces you live and work will do wonders for your entire life. Remember: “A clear space is a clear mind,” so start with just 10 minutes a day.
3. Visualize
Spend a few minutes a day visualizing your perfect day and life, and watch how amazing it turns out to be. When we visualize great things, and leave the worry out of our minds, great things happen for us. What we focus on becomes our reality, so focus on and visualize your perfect life.
4. 10 minutes of meditation
Taking just ten minutes out of your day to meditate will completely relax you, and clear your mind. You will be more focused, more aware of the things around you, and more at peace with yourself and your life. If you don’t know how to meditate, here is a great app to help you: Headspace.
5. Write down gratitude
Writing down gratitude brings what we are grateful for to the forefront of our mind. What better way to change your life for the better than to remind yourself daily everything you are grateful for, and why your life is so awesome. You will also complain a lot less too, when you realize how much you have.
6. Learn something new
Learning makes us confident, feeds our creativity, and also broadens our perspective of the world. Learning something new doesn’t have to take a lot of time- you can listen to a podcast or YouTube video of something positive and inspirational, and allow your creative mind to be fed, and evolve in your best self.
7. Do something kind for no reason
We shouldn’t need a reason to be kind to someone, and we will notice that if we perform random acts of kindness, we will not only make others feel good, but we will feel so great about ourselves too. Knowing that we can brighten someones day, who may be having a rough one makes us extremely powerful.
Which of these 7 Ways To Change Your Life in 10 Minutes Or Less are you going to do right now?

The Top 5 Ways to Stay Motivated
We’ve all been told at some point or another that if you put your mind to it you can achieve anything, and that’s true so long as you have the motivation. Whether your goal is to lose weight, run a marathon, or get ahead in your career, we all struggle to keep up the motivation necessary to achieve our goals.
Take a look at our top five tips for staying motivated.
5. Have a plan
If you find yourself having trouble implementing a new routine, you might need to set daily, weekly, or monthly tasks. Having a plan or designating time on your calendar lets you see exactly what you should be doing, and will help you stay on track. It’s harder to forget or ignore a task if you’ve already set aside time for it in your schedule.
4. Baby steps
We all like instant gratification, but achieving a goal rarely happens overnight. You won’t be a marathon runner after one run, and that’s ok. As long as you expect to have to put some time into making your goal a reality, you can appreciate the small milestones instead of kicking yourself over not being an Instagram yoga star after one yoga class.
3. Cut the crap
So many people resign themselves to never making any major changes in their lifestyle because it doesn’t ask anything from them today. Telling yourself you’ll start a task tomorrow is the best way to ensure that you never reach your goal. We will always we busy and have excuses as to why we can’t start right now, but if we were honest with ourselves, those excuses boil down to laziness.
Making a change will always be hard because it requires you to make an effort today, not a week from today. That’s why it’s so important to set aside time in your schedule to work at a task so you can’t come up with a reason why right now isn’t good.
2. Reward yourself
Rewarding yourself is one of the easiest ways to keep your motivation up. Giving yourself a reward for achieving even a small task helps you enjoy the process, and will encourage you to keep at it. Just be sure that your rewards don’t go against what your trying to accomplish. After a great week of sticking to your workouts, try getting yourself a cute new workout outfit that makes you feel good instead of treating yourself with a decadent dessert. Next time you put on that outfit you’ll be reminded of how great it feels to accomplish something, and will be motivated to keep going.
1. Have fun
One of the most important keys to staying motivated is having fun. You may have heard the saying “no pain no gain,” and while most goals require lots of hard work and sacrifice, it’s almost impossible to stay motivated if you truly dread doing what it takes to achieve your goal.
Find ways to make the process fun so you’ll actually want to put the effort in. If you’re trying to lose weight, try a new class that interests you or working out with your best friend. The more you enjoy what you’re doing, the less you’ll have to fight with yourself to stay motivated.

10 Reasons Why Cancers Make The Best Partners
It’s cancer season! Cancers, also known as the crab, and those born between June 22-July 22, are the ‘Mothers’ of the zodiac. They are protective, warm, nurturing and caring, and with these qualities, they make the best partners.
To know a cancer is to love one, and I know from first hand experience (my boyfriend being a cancer) just how loving they are.
10 Reasons Why Cancers Make The Best Partners:
1. They are emotional
When you are dating a cancer, anything you are going through, they will share in your emotion with you. They are capable of “feeling your pain,” and they will be there for you and genuinely sympathize with you. This is also a sign you will never feel afraid to cry in front of.
2. They are deep
Waters run deep with a cancer, and their depth can be seen in their eyes. With a cancer, you can share your deepest and darkest secrets, and tell them things that you wouldn’t tell anyone else. They will stay up all night listening to you and they will be extremely empathetic and understanding.
3. They are intuitive
Cancers have natural intuition and are able to pick up on your moods and feelings. They are amazing at getting down to the bottom of things with you, and you literally will wonder, how did they know that? Whether you’re happy or sad, a cancer will be able to tell.
4. They are nurturing
A cancer will care for you, and genuinely want the best for you. They will encourage your growth and support your development, and basically help you out in any way they can.
5. They are protective
Your crab will go to the end of the earth to protect you, and be your real-life knight in shining armor. You will never have to question your safety with a cancer, because it makes them happy to keep you out of harms way. There is also nothing like having a cancer in your corner.
6. They value home and family
Being ‘Mothers’ of the zodiac, cancers roots are in the home. Their family is everything to them, and they will enjoy spending time with their family as well as yours. They also make unbelievable parents, and they adore children.
7. They are giving
If there is anyone to stop their car to help someone in need, it is a cancer. They are more than happy to lend a helping hand, and they truly have the biggest hearts. You can always depend on a cancer, and count on them to be there for you.
8. They are physical
This sign enjoys physical closeness as much as emotional (think forehead kisses). When a cancer hugs you, all of your worries and your fears will go away. Cancers also love cuddling, and they are hands down the best cuddlers in the world.
9. They are ever so dreamy
In you look into a cancer’s eyes, you will see just how dreamy they are. There is a magic about them, and it probably has to do with their depth. If a cancer is in love with you, you will really feel it, and you will be able to see their love for you in their eyes.
10. They are devoted
It’s not easy to capture the heart of the crab, because it takes them a while to open up, but once they do, prepare to feel like the most loved person in the entire world. Your cancer will be completely and utterly devoted to you, and you will feel as if you are walking on clouds.

The Incredible Journey of Bruce to Caitlyn Jenner
In 1976, Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce) was given the unofficial title of the “world’s greatest athlete,” when Jenner won an Olympic event back from the former Soviet Union. But this was not the peak of Jenner’s career, who went on to pursue television, film, auto racing, and business, in addition to becoming an LGBT advocate when she transitioned to a woman in 2015. And what a transition it has been.

9 Things Successful Savers Do
It’s not that some people are just good savers and others aren’t, savers work hard to save their money.
To help you, LifeDaily shares 9 Things Successful Savers Do:
1. They know that small amounts add up to something big
They don’t think that saving $5 here or $20 there is pointless. They know that it adds up to a lot of money over time.

Savers always have budgets, because without one they wouldn’t even know where to begin. Create your budget around your monthly/weekly salary, and start by saving 5%-10%.

Successful savers don’t spend carelessly; they plan how much they are able to spend in each area of their lives, and they execute their plan.
4. They have specific goals that they are working towards
Savers write down their goals, and they are working towards something bigger- be it retiring early, or quitting their job to start their own business. They know what they are saving so hard for, which makes it a lot easier.

The Agony and The Ecstasy of Living With Roommates
Moving is hard. Moving into a new place with 4 other people is harder. However, many recent grads are currently embarking on the adventure of living on their own and setting up shop in their first apartment, house, or glorified garbage can. Living with just one roommate, or a truckload of them can be as fun as it is difficult.
Company
The Ecstasy: There’s always somebody there when you get home from work. You have built-in best friends that are just waiting for you to come home, cook mac & cheese, and watch OITNB. Your best friend is always caught up on your life so you never have to go through the sparknotes of what happened last night when Cedric came over to “chill.” Instead, you have the luxury of always having a friend present and always having plans fall into your lap.
The Agony: There’s always somebody there when you get home from work. You just want to walk in the door, prance around in your underwear while you cook tacos, and not be bothered with the growing group of people in your living room. And did somebody just invite Stacy over? Seriously, like, who even wants her here?
Sharing is Caring
The Ecstasy: Between so many people, there’s a lot to be shared (mainly rent), which lifts the burden of having to do or buy everything alone. The pepper grinder, hair dryer, and that cool bouncy chair are all fair game now. If you’re going out and have nothing to wear, there’s 3 other closets that might bestow their blessings upon you.
The Agony: Between so many people, there’s a lot to be taken without permission. Because of the gray area that naturally results from communal living space, there’s always that one roommate that crosses the line and wanders into your room whenever they need a pen, sweatshirt, or your first born child. When you get home and want to veg out in front of the Xbox, somebody is already playing it. And don’t even get me started on coordinating shower schedules.
Cleaning
The Esctasy: Cleaning is so much easier when it’s divided between a group of people. Everybody has their day to take out the trash, do the dishes, and vacuum. Sometimes, you’ll find yourself cleaning the kitchen and your roommate will walk by and pitch in without you even asking. The job goes by quickly when there is somebody to help.
The Agony: Cleaning is so much easier when Jeremy is home all day with no job, so he can probably just do all the dishes I left in the sink last night. When you live with multiple roommates, we encounter what social psychologists coined as the Bystander Effect. When there’s a lot of people present that CAN take responsibility, we assume somebody else WILL take responsibility.
Going Out
The Esctacy: I don’t care what anybody says, going out with your roommates is the best. Thing. Ever. You spend all day hanging around the house, cooking food, and drinking beer, and then you get ready together, do your hair together, and dance together. It’s a bonding experience unlike all others. And at the end of the night, you get to take your favorite people home with you.
The Agony: I don’t care what anybody says, going out with your roommates is also the worst. Thing. Ever. You spend all day hanging around the house, so it takes forever to make moves. Once you finally do, your battling for the shower. When you want to go home at the end of the night, you have to round everybody up, which takes at least an hour. And somebody always manages to get lost or cry.

7 Racially Offensive Phrases That People Still Use
These phrases are really common ones that everyone has heard of and used, but most people don’t even know that they actually have racist roots.
When it comes to racially offensive phrases, especially in the evermore politically correct world we live in, it’s important to know when you might be saying something that could offend others.
While a lot of people use the phrases below innocently, it is important to note that they do in fact have racist roots, and that fact may well put you off using in the future; depending just how politically correct you are as a person.
1. “The peanut gallery”
What we know it for: The peanut gallery is known to most as a dismissive term for hecklers or critics.
Where it originated from: The peanut gallery originally referred to the balconies of segregated theaters, where African Americans had to sit. Why peanut you might ask? Well, apparently peanuts were introduced to American during the slave trade and thus became associated with blacks.
2. “The jig is up”
What we know it for: This expression is used today to describe a joke or scheme that has been revealed.
Where it originated from: Many people believe the saying was used in its original form by some in the American South to refer to the lynching of a black person. By replacing the “j” with “n” you’ll get it.
3. “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe”
What we know it for: The classic children’s rhyme that we’ve all heard on the playground: “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, catch a tiger by the toe, if he hollers let him go, eeny, meeny, miny, moe.”
Where it originated from: Some early versions include the lyric: “Catch a n–ger by the toe.” The n-word was replaced by “tiger” in later years, which makes it not sound so cute anymore.
4. “Call a spade a spade”
What we know it for: We know this phrase to mean: “To tell it like it is.”
Where it originated from: In the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920’s, “spade” became a disparaging code word for black people.
5. “Sold down the river”
What we know it for: We use this phrase to signify someone who has betrayed us.
Where it originated from: During slavery being “sold down the river” was literal. Slave owners would sell their slaves and send them via the Mississippi or Ohio River to plantations in the Deep South, where the plantation conditions were much worse.
6. “Paddy wagons”
What we know it for: “Paddy wagon” meaning a police car.
Where it originated from: “Paddy” originated in the late 1700’s as a shortened form of Patrick, and then later a term for Irishmen. So “Paddy wagon” either stemmed from the large number of Irish police officers, or the perception that rowdy, drunken Irishmen constantly ended up in the back of police cars.
7. “The itis”
What we know it for: We say we have “the itis” when we’re in a food coma, or when we’ve eaten too much food.
Where it originated from: This phrase stems from a longer and incredibly offensive version- “ni****itis,” which alludes to the stereotype of laziness once associated with African-Americans.

17 Things All Girls With Glasses Know to be True
Glasses are the worst–all girls who wear glasses will admit that. But there are a specific set of problems that come along with wearing glasses that have nothing to do with eyesight.
From picking out the best frames, to trying to keep them clean, wearing glasses is a constant hassle. It affects every aspect of your life. But, while there are a ton of problems with wearing glasses, there are also some great things about being a self-proclaimed four-eyes.
Here are 17 things that our framed friends know all too well.
1. The day you buy new glasses is STRESSFUL.
A good pair of glasses can make your face. Similarly, a bad pair can ruin you. You have to pick a pair that will stay stylish, but also frames your face. It’s almost as stressful as picking a prom dress or the outfit for a first date. Except you have to do it every few years for the rest of your life.
2. Having those cleaning towels is almost as important as having glasses.
All the dust, dirt, wind, rain, sweat, and other things in the air around you are twice as annoying for girls in glasses. You can’t see if you don’t clean off the glass fairly constantly. While most girls hate losing a hair-tie, you fear losing that little square of cloth.
3. Otherwise, you must wear cotton clothes at all times.
The only other option is to wipe your glasses on your COTTON shirt. That’s one reason winter sucks: knit sweaters can not help you.
4. You fear nighttime.
When you take off your glasses for the night, you are done for. You can not see anything, and every bang in the night is 100% scarier.
5. Sports are not your friends.
Running fast. Basketballs flying at your face. Don’t even talk to me about sports that require eyewear like Lacrosse. This is one of those times you need contacts.
6. People ALWAYS want to try your glasses on.
Who knows why people with 20-20 vision are always asking to try on other people’s glasses. They all must be jealous.
7. And then are surprised when they see how bad your eyesight is.
If you wear glasses, you’ve definitely heard this at least once: “omg you’re so blind!” Yes, my eyesight is worse than yours. I am not blind, but I do wear glasses because of this. I’m not sure how much clearer I can be.
8. You choose between indents in your nose or your glasses sliding down your nose.
Nosepads: the bane of your glasses-wearing existence. Except if you don’t have them, you’ll be adjusting your glasses every few minutes (aka any time you look down).
9. Changes in temperature are noticeable since you stop being able to see.
Everything from going outside in the rain to drinking a cup of coffee will cause your glasses to fog up. See numbers 2 and 3.
10. People are always backhanded-complimenting you.
“You’re so pretty without glasses.” Um, thanks.
11. Lasik surgery is what your daydreams are made of.
What would it be like if you didn’t need glasses at all? You’ve definitely spent more hours dreaming of getting eye surgery than you have thinking about anything else.
12. Sunglasses are difficult.
Do you forgo sunglasses to keep your eyesight? Or do you ditch your regular glasses to protect yourself for the sun? Maybe just stay inside.
13. Kissing is harder.
Seriously, you can’t even attempt a make-out session without taking your glasses off. Otherwise, they’ll dig into your nose, or get pushed off your eyes, or fall off, or…
14. When you wear contacts, people don’t recognize you.
Big events like prom or graduation, when you force yourself to wear contacts even though you hate them, will leave all of your friends confused as they search the crowd for you. Remember this fact for any time you need to go incognito.
15. People always think you are smart.
If there’s one good thing that’s true for all girls in glasses, it’s that people automatically assume you are smarter than you are. Even though we all know that girls in glasses aren’t necessarily smarter than those who aren’t, it’s a phycology thing. So you might as well just admit the fact that you are brilliant.
16. Glasses ARE sexy.
Seriously. Men love glasses. Women love glasses. We all love glasses, so don’t let them stop you from being your ~sexy~ self.
17. Thanks to the hipster crowd, glasses are in right now.
We have waited our entire lives for this moment. The moment where girls with perfect vision are buying glasses with fake lenses just to be like us. The moment where people everywhere are making creative choices with their frames to stand out, not to fade into the crowd. Own your glasses. Embrace your glasses.

7 Incredible Studies That Prove The Power Of The Mind
Our minds are extremely powerful, if not, the most powerful life changing forces in the world.
There is no limit to what our minds are capable of, and there are studies to back this fact up. When it comes to the power of the mind the possibilities are literally endless as the brain is the one organ in the body that science and medicine know the least about. While plenty is known about the liver, the kidneys and the heart, the secrets and mysteries of the brain are yet to be discovered fully.
Nevertheless, the following seven studies highlight some very interesting things about the mind, how it works and what it’s capable of:
1. Visualization creates results
Visualization is the formation of mental images, and the recreation of all the images, sounds and feelings in your mind.
Study: Psychologist Alan Richardson set out to prove the power of visualization through an experiment where a group of basketball players were split into three groups, and the intent was to demonstrate the effectiveness of visualization in how the players converted free throws.
Groups: The first group practiced 20 minutes everyday, the the second group visualized themselves making free throws, but did not participate in practice, and the third group did not practice free throws or visualization.
Results: Only the group that visualized demonstrated marked improvement, and were nearly as accurate as the players that actually practiced.
2. Smiling improves mood
Known as the Facial Feedback Hypothesis, scientists have known for a long time that changing your body through smiling, relaxing, and sitting up straight are followed by positive emotional responses.
Study: In the late 1980’s, researchers did not want to reveal that the study was about smiling or emotion, fearing that it could alter the results. So they improved through the use of a pencil, and here’s what they did:
Groups: The first group held the pencil horizontally in their mouth, between their teeth, which physically forced them to smile. The second group held the pencil horizontally in their mouth using only their lips, which did not force a smile and only caused a frown. The third group (control group) simply held the pencil in their hands.
Results: When the participants were asked to view different cartoons and rated them on how funny they were, the 1st (“smile” group) gave the cartoons much funnier ratings than the second (“frown” group), or even the third (“holding pencil” group).
3. The brain can produce serotonin on it’s own
Serotonin is an essential brain chemical because it increases will power, delays gratification, and increases attention to detail.
Your brain can produce serotonin in three ways:
- Sunlight- It contains UV light, which when absorbed through the skin produces Vitamin D, promoting the production of serotonin.
- Massage- One particular study focused on pregnant women, and the women that received massages twice a week from their partner boosted their serotonin levels by 30%.
- Exercise- Exercise is an effective and well-known method to increase endorphin levels.
4. Thought management lowers stress
Study: Author Don Joseph Goeway, who also managed the department of psychiatry at Stanford University and assisted parents in dealing with the loss of a child, is a master in the stress department. He developed the most simple and practical way to eliminate fearful thoughts and escalating stress as any method before. Goeway calls it the Clear Button, which works by distracting the primitive brain where fear is known to reside.
Clear Button steps:
- Imagine that there is a button in the center of your left palm; imagine that this button, when pressed, will send a signal to your brain to stop the fearful thinking.
- Press the button with your right hand as you become aware of your breath.
- Take three easy breaths counting them out.
- Imagine a different color for each number.
- As you exhale, relax in the present moment.
5. Positivity and meditation prolongs life
Study: In 1989, Dr. David Spiegel of Stanford University did a study consisting of 86 women in the late stages of breast cancer.
Groups: There were two groups: one group received only prescribed medical care, and the other group was given weekly support sessions in addition to the medical care. During these weekly sessions, patients shared their feelings, socialized with other patients and had a positive environment in which to cope with their illness.
Results: It was discovered that women in the support group survived twice as long as those that did not. And a similar study in 1999 found that cancer patients who have general feelings of helplessness and hopelessness have a lower chance of survival.
6. People can “think” their way to releasing weight
I know what you’re thinking..”this sounds crazy.” But here’s the science:
Study: The experiment involved a Harvard psychologist named Langer and a group of mostly overweight hotel maids. Despite exceeding the recommended amount of exercise, 67% of the maids did not consider themselves physically active. Langer predicted that the maid’s viewpoints on their physical activity were making it difficult for them to lose weight.
Groups: Langer gathered half of the maids and took their physical measurements and explained that they were exceeding the amount of exercise recommended by the surgeon general. The other half were given no information.
Results: After a month, Langer’s team returned to the hotel for reevaluation. The maids that were evaluated and given information had a decrease in systolic blood pressure, weight, and waist-to-hip ratio. The other group’s results were insignificant. Langer attributes these physical benefits to a simple change in mindset.
7. The Placebo effect
Placebos are pills, medications, or procedures that are prescribed only for the psychological benefit of the patient.
Researchers are discovering that placebos are at times more effective than the actual medication, which leaves those in the pharmaceutical industry worried. Prozac, a commonly prescribed antidepressant, along with other prescription drugs are often proven less effective than placebos, which as a result has led the industry to engage in other neurological studies to either refute or safeguard their products from common placebos.

The Key to a Happy Marriage According to Science
Every day a couple decides to get married, and to be together for better or for worse. However, it doesn’t always quite work out that way. Unfortunately most marriages end either in divorce, separation, or unhealthy dysfunction.
According to Ty Tashiro, psychologist and author of The Science of Happily Ever After, only three in ten people who get married remain happily married.
When the rate of divorce started to skyrocket in the 70s, many social scientists began studying marriages to figure out the cause behind the new trend.
John Gottman was one of those researchers, and for the past 42 years, he has observed thousands of couples to figure out what makes a relationship last. Together with his wife Julie, Gottman runs The Gottman Institute, which helps couples build and maintain healthy, loving relationships.
In 1986, Gottman set up “The Love Lab” at the University of Washington with Robert Levenson. The experiment brought newlywed couples into the lab to observe interactions with each other. As they spoke about a variety of subjects, Gottman and Levenson measured the subjects’ blood flow, heart rates, and sweat with electrodes. Six years later, they followed up with the couples to see what state their marriage was in.
From the data that was collected, Gottman was able to separate couples into two groups: the masters and the disasters. Unsurprisingly, the masters were still happily married and the disasters had either separated or were very unhappy. The difference, as Gottman explains, is that the masters were able to create trust and intimacy between each other even in times of disagreement.
The state of a marriage ultimately comes down to weather the couple provides patience and kindness towards each other rather than hostility and criticism because every couple, no matter how ‘perfect’, will have disagreements.
Gottman explains that the number one commonality among couples in good relationships is have “repairing skills, and they repair early.”
The thing that all really good marriages and love relationships have in common is that they communicate to their partner a model that when you’re upset, I listen,” Gottman says. “The world stops, and I listen. And we repair things. We don’t let things go. We don’t leave one another in pain. We talk about it, and we repair.
This is where the attitudes of kindness and patience make all the difference.
“In really good relationships, people are very gentle with the way they come on about a conflict,” Gottman says. “They don’t bare their fangs and leap in there; they’re very considered.”
For example, he says: “Instead of pointing their finger and saying, ‘You asshole!,’ they say, ‘Hey babe, it’s not a big deal, but I need to talk about it and I need to hear from you.’ In bad relationships, it’s, ‘You’re defective, and you need therapy.'”
Gottman explains that the most effective repairing skills are based on making emotional connections rather than being right about a problem. He suggests that when there’s a disconnect or disagreement, couples focus more on how you feel, and less on who is right or wrong.

Ahoy there land lovers! and welcome to LifeDaily’s list of the 10 most expensive yachts to ever grace the sea. While many people enjoy nothing more than a luxury cruise, there are those who live that life more permanently and splash out millions of hard earned dollars to enjoy the high seas 24/7.
You might have thought that a cool $200 million was a lot for anyone to spend on a yacht, knowing full well they only use it for vacations anyways, but just wait till you get to the bottom of this list and you’ll be shocked to see how much some people are prepared to spend to enjoy life at at sea.
10. The Rising Sun- $200 million
This beautiful motor yacht was designed by Jon Bannenberg, and built in 2004 for Larry Ellison the CEO of Oracle Corporation. David Geffen bought this beautiful yacht in 2010, which is equipped with a helicopter landing pad, a movie theater, a wine cellar, a basketball court, and 82 rooms scattered across 5 floors.
9. Seven Seas Yacht- $200 million
Built by a Dutch company called Oceanco, the Seven Seas yacht can accommodate 12 guests across a series of seven suites. There’s even an owners cabin that has housed its owner, Steven Spielberg. Amenities on the yacht include a movie theater, helipad, gymnasium, and an infinity pool.
8. Lady Moura – $210 Million
Lady Moura is so expensive that the lettering and embellishments on its name are made from 24 karat gold. This yacht is owned by Nassar Al-Rashid, a Saudi billionaire. Not much is known about Lady Moura, but we do know it is propelled by twin diesel engines that product nearly 7,000 horsepower each. Lady Moura can accommodate 30 guests and over 60 crew members.
7. Al Mirqab – $250 Million
The Prime Minister of Qatar owns this yacht which contains ten bedroom suites, a helipad, a swimming pool, a movie theater, and a sun deck. There’s also set of VIP suites set aside for the owner, which makes it the perfect yacht to transport your friends to the Mediterranean for the summer. That’s if you can afford it.
6. Dilbar – $263 Million
Alisher Usmanov is the owner of this yacht, and he named it Dilbar in honor of his late mother. This extravagant yacht is run by a crew of 47, it’s over 360 feet long and 50 feet high, and contains a ton of amenities!
5. Al Said – $300 Million
Al Said was named after its owner Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said of Oman. This yacht was built from an aluminum super structure, and it can reach 22 knots and accommodate up to 70 people, which doesn’t count the 154 crew members who work on the yacht. One of Al Said’s highlights is that it contains a concert hall that can accommodate a pretty large orchestra. We wish we had pictures of the interior, but they’re not allowed. #exclusive
4. Superyacht A – $323 Million
This unbelievably shaped yacht is owned by Russian Billionaire Andrei Melchenko. Superyacht A has a crew of 42 people and can house 14 guests, which is rather small considering its $323 million price tag. This yacht is equipped with swimming pools (all built with opposing currents to swim against), two additional boats to travel back and fourth to land, a master suite that can house up to six people, and the latest technology and entertainment systems! It’s the perfect yacht for a Bond villain.
3. Dubai – $350 Million
This extravagant yacht has gone by several names in the past, until the Sheikh of Dubai appropriately named it Dubai. Dubai contains a helipad, a swimming pool, a spa and a glass staircase. This is currently the second largest yacht in the world, and it can host up to 115 people!
2. Eclipse – Estimated $450 Million – $1.2 Billion
While we don’t know the exact cost of this monstrous yacht, various sources have listed its price of construction as high as $1.5 billion! Eclipse is owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abromavich, and he sparred no expense on security: the yacht contains its own private defense system designed to detect intruders and camera-wielding spectators. It’s so advanced that if you try and take pictures of the yacht, it uses modern light technology to block them! There’s room on board for 24 guests, two helipads, and a submarine.
1. Streets of Monaco – $1 Billion
This insane yacht is the most expensive on our list! The difference between the Streets of Monaco, and the other yachts is that this unreal yacht is only a model- it is currently under construction (which is why we listed #3. Dubai as the second largest in the world). Streets of Monaco will be unlike any other, as you can see from above. It will have a go-kart track, a private beach, a man-made lake, a ship deck designed to replicate a city-scape, and reproductions of casinos, and a Monaco Grand Prix track. Also included sprawled over its 550 feet are cafes, swimming pools, tennis courts, and underwater ocean views. We cannot wait to see what billionaire purchases this eccentric yacht!

12 Ways You are Sleeping Wrong
Sleep: everybody needs it. But with our busy lifestyles, full of technology, caffeine, and other vices, are we getting enough sleep? And if so, are we getting the right kind of sleep?
Getting a good night of sleep isn’t as easy as it sounds. From sleeping a full seven hours, to turning off all of our devices, to not eating or drinking before bed, the rules are complex and complicated. Are you sleeping wrong? Check out these 12 common problems to find out.
1. Your sleep tracker dictates your life.
Sometimes, sleep trackers can tell you if you’ve gotten a good night sleep. But you shouldn’t NEED it to. You should know whether or not you wake up refreshed, and if you usually wake up feeling groggy or craving your coffee, your sleep tracker is obviously not helping you. Ditch it, and get seven to nine hours of sleep, whether your tracker says so or not.
2. You don’t utilize pillows.
One pillow under your head isn’t enough. If you’re a back-sleeper, place a pillow under your knees to alleviate pressure on your back. And if you’re a side-sleeper, put a pillow between your legs to keep your spine aligned.
3. You sleep face-down.
Stomach-sleepers, this one is for you. Laying on your stomach with your face turned out will twist your spine, which can cause serious issues over time, like neck and back pain, and problems with staying asleep in the future. You can fix this tendency with pillows; wedge one between the armpit and hip of the side you normally turn your head towards, while bending your elbow and knee.
4. You drink before bed.
Alcohol and a good night of sleep do not mix. Drinking will mess up your sleep cycle, and you’ll likely never reach that deep sleep your body craves. The more drinks you have, the worse quality your sleep will have. So if you are planning on drinking, start early in the night and switch to water before bed.
5. You don’t have a bedtime.
Going to sleep whenever you feel like it confuses your body. If you hit the hay early one day, and then stay up all night the next, your body won’t know when to shut down, and it will off-set your sleep cycle. If you get into a pattern, it will make mornings so much easier, because you will feel well rested every day.
6. You sleep in on the weekends.
If you’re the kind of person who gets little sleep during the week and plans to “catch up” on the weekends, then you are in for a rude awakening. Sleep doesn’t work that way–you need to get an even amount each day. If you don’t, you are at risk for brain damage.
7. You eat close to bedtime.
You should always allow at least 3 hours between the last time you eat and the time you go to sleep. If not, you might be at risk for indigestion and heart burn, which will keep you awake. You should also avoid spicy, fatty, and fried food before bed.
8. You let in blue light.
You’ve probably heard this one more often in the last few years than ever before, and that’s because our favorite types of technology create blue light, i.e. phones, laptops, and televisions. The blue light from these devices can go right through your eyelids (even as you are sleeping) and will disrupt your cycle. So when lights are off, so should be your devices.
9. Your mattress is old.
Spring mattresses are meant to last only up to 10 years (typically in the range of 5-10). If your mattress is starting to show wear–like with a body indent in the center–you need a new one. Otherwise, you’ll suffer the consequences, like shoulder, neck, and back pain.
10. Your PJs are synthetic.
Satin pajamas and sateen sheets feel smooth against your skin, but they actually keep your body heat in as well, which disrupts your sleep. Choose cotton, bamboo, or natural fiber materials in order to keep body temperature down and avoid being woken up in the middle of the night.
11. You have no blinds.
If your room doesn’t have something to block out light–either from street lamps and cars, or from an early-morning sunrise–you won’t be getting a deep sleep. Try blackout blinds on the windows, or wear a sleep mask to protect your eyes.
12. You don’t wash your feet.
This sounds strange, but it actually makes a lot of sense. If you spend the day walking around with sandals on or barefoot, all of the dirt you picked up will just end up at the bottom of your bed, which will make your sheets stink. Take a warm bath or shower before bed, and then you’ll clean them off, while simultaneously setting your body up with the perfect temperature to fall asleep faster.

21 Symptoms of Being a Daydreamer
Every group of friends has one. He marches to the beat of his own bongo. This is the person who’s often lost in his own thoughts meandering through life at whatever pace he chooses. People like this appreciate the little things in life and like to wander and dream.
This is the friend you will be out with and then suddenly somebody says, “wait, what happened to Craig?” After 7 (unanswered) phone calls, you finally find Craig outside discussing the meaning of life with the guy from the hot dog stand.
If any of the following sound like you, you might just be that friend.
1. You always take time to stop and smell the roses–quite literally. If you pass by a gorgeous rose bush who wouldn’t stop to smell them?!
2. You’ll also stop to watch street performers, giggling babies, and read funny billboards.
3. When you go out with friends (especially if alcohol is involved), they basically need to put a leash on you.
4. During a night out, your phone is littered with texts from everybody saying, “where are you?”
5. You probably never end up answering these texts.
6. You’re probably pretty bad at answering texts in general.
7. Sometimes, you think you answered somebody’s text, but actually you just typed out the message and forgot to hit send.
8. And let’s not even talk about email.
9. Following a GPS is near impossible.
10. Following somebody’s directions over the phone is near impossible.
11. Following somebody’s directions when they are sitting next to you in the passenger seat is near impossible.
12. You know a lot of random trivia facts, mostly those you got from Snapple bottle caps.
13. If you’re with a large group of people, you lose interest in the conversation quickly and wander off on your own.
14. Somebody usually needs to come get you and pull you back.
15. You’ve probably been yelled at by somebody that isn’t your mother for wandering off too frequently (although she’s definitely yelled at you for that same thing).
16. You’re always the last one to know about drama.
17. You can’t keep track of who is dating whom in your social circles.
18. You appreciate corny jokes.
19. Your body is decorated with hues of black and blue because you’re always walking into walls.
20. You giggle easily and are a child at heart.
21. You’re definitely a Hufflepuff.

Need A Laugh? Ask Siri What 0 Divided By 0 Is
As I stumbled upon the numerous posts on Instagram of people asking Siri what 0 divided by 0 was, I had to ask her for myself.
So I pressed the button on my iPhone, and awaited Siri’s ingenious response.
What she said left me floored!
I wasn’t sure where she would ever come up with this response, but a few things came to mind.
BUT! Before I go any further, ask Siri for yourself, and then come back to this article so we can discuss.
………………………
………………………
Crazy right? Siri’s talking about cookies, and telling you that you have no friends (which is a huge insult).
So here on my thoughts on the matter.
3 things:
1. Apple is behind this ingenious plan and has come up with something viral to share amongst friends and family over July 4th weekend.
2. Siri is a wise-ass.
3. We are just dumb to ask Siri what 0 divided by 0 is the first place, so we deserve a dumb response.
Which do you think it is?
And while you ponder it, check out some other times Siri made me giggle:
When I asked Siri to read me a poem, and she insulted me again:
What does the fox say?
Siri, do you have a boyfriend?
Which came first the chicken or the egg?
Have you ever fallen in love?
What are you doing Siri?
What’s your best pick up line?
What funny things has Suri said to you?
Please share them with us.

7 Best Ways To Further Your Career
We all want to go further in our careers, but some of us lack the skills needed to do so.
No one is born with these skills- they must be learned. In saying that, how does one learn the necessary skills they need to advance in their career? Well, that’s a good question, and one that many simply don’t know the answer to, despite their high aspirations.
While being organized, networking and developing the skills you need are obvious ones, what else do you need to do to ensure you further your career in your chosen field of expertize? Check out today’s LifeDaily list for and take some pointers for the future…
1. Work on goals that matter to you
Nothing is worse than pursuing goals that you don’t even care about- this is the quickest way to leave you disappointed and unhappy. Michael Hyatt (writer on Intentional leadership) suggests pursuing exciting goals to help advance your career. If your goals from your employer don’t excite you, then you can set aside aside at least one goal that is important to you, e.g. learn new skills.
2. Be organized
Organization is an essential skill needed to get ahead, and while technology helps, it is still in your hands to be organized. Being super organized helps you to be more productive, and focus on your most important work (instead of sorting through clutter). A helpful book on organization is Getting Things Done by David Allen.
3. Learn more
By learning more about your industry, or skills for your particular job, you will deliver more value in your career, therefore more quickly advance. After working in our careers for some time, we tend to get comfortable, and we don’t learn as much. Learning is really important, and books or online courses are a great place to start.
4. Network externally
You can have all the skills in the world, but if you are not networking, you’re not putting yourself out there. Therefore you’re missing out on meeting people who can help advance your career, possibly give you another job in the future, or meeting someone who you can learn from. If you are at an event, ask someone questions about themselves, their job, and how they got to the place they are at now. If you admire that person, maybe they will even mentor you- and that is great for your career!
5. Network within your company
Networking internally is just as important, and to get ahead in your career, especially at senior levels, networking makes all the difference. There are usually no online postings for the best roles, instead, the people in your company are your resource. Few people however give value to their network and remember birthdays, and give a card or gift, or introduce people by email and stay in touch, and this couldn’t be more important.
6. Keep up your health
In the short term, you may be trading in your health for your career advancement, however, this is a dangerous habit to build. Instead, take notes from highly productive people such as working out every morning, and eating healthy. Your mental health and your physical energy are your best assets. If you feel good, you will work better.
7. Develop conflict management skills
In your career, and in life, you will face conflicts. Most people have different goals and interests, which is often what leads most to disagree. Unsuccessful people often struggle with conflicts, however successful people handle conflict with confidence, which is why it’s best to work on your conflict management skills.
